Jahmal Bush (born November 4, 1973), better known by his stage name Rock (or Big Rock, Monstaman Rocko and The Rockness Monsta), is an American rapper from Brownsville, Brooklyn, New York City, New York, famously known as a member of hip hop collective Boot Camp Clik and the legendary duo Heltah Skeltah along with the late Sean Price. Rock always knew he wanted to perform and he acted in school but that all stopped when his rap career took off. However, the passion for acting still burned within him so he jumped at the chance to act in the web series Atlantic City Chronicles (2013-2014), have a cameo in the indie film Sea of Green (2014) and as lead character and pimp Reggie Rockets on the web series TIPS (2016).
Hailed as having one of the most distinct voices in hip-hop and celebrated for his sophisticated flow, he has performed songs for a variety of video games including "I Am Rock" for Need for Speed: Most Wanted, "This Is Me" for Blitz The League II and "I Am Rock" for NFL Street 2.
Rock has graced many rappers' albums and fans clamored for him to release an album of his own and bring back "real" hip-hop. Finally, on September 22, 2017, Rock released his first solo album, Rockness A.P., to great critical acclaim and applause from the industry and fans alike. With the lead single GW BaG, Rock put the industry on notice that he is still a force to be reckoned with. His second single, Shine Down, revealed a gentler side of Rock as he laments the passing of his rap partner and best friend (Sean Price).
Rock has admitted to being an 80s Brooklyn Decepticons gang member, along with fellow Heltah Skeltah group member Sean Price and Onyx rapper Sticky Fingaz. On January 15, 2008, Rock was arrested for an assault and attempted murder charge after he allegedly gunned down a rival while working as a pimp, which would later lend him authenticity in his role as a pimp on the web series Tips. He was released on a $125,000 bail about a week later on January 24, 2008 and was later found not guilty of all charges.
