While reality TV hit some roadblocks this year, truly docu-soap style genre remains as lively as ever, and the year 2024 didn’t disappoint.

One thing about it, two things for sure, reality TV will never die. Between new spinoff series, a focus on senior dating and the end of major talent’s journeys on programs, reality TV kept us binging or heading back to our screens every week.

As 2024 closes out, TheWrap wanted to review the shows that set the tone, were cult-followed and had amazing plots and cast members. Take a look at the list below.

Big Brother is represented on The Traitors again this winter, joining the various other reality shows that sent players to Scotland.

Two Big Brother alums appeared in each of the first two seasons of The Traitors US. Viewers saw Cody Calafiore and Rachel Reilly in Season 1 and Dan Gheesling and Janelle Pierzina in Season 2.

Big Brother 2 winner Dr. Will Kirby had a guest appearance in the second season as a staged cabin owner (with wolves) in the Scottish forest.

Danielle Reyes and Britney Haynes are in the mix for The Traitors Season 3, but they must contend with 19 other people competing for the $250,000 prize pool.

Danielle was on BB3 and Big Brother All-Stars, while Britney was on BB12 and BB14. The ladies also played on Big Brother: Reindeer Games last winter.

Will Danielle or Britney be chosen as Traitors? We will have to tune in to find out this winter!

Big Brother: Reindeer Games is a fun spin-off show that debuted on CBS in December 2023. The show rolled out during the downtime caused by the Writers Strike.

Bbrg featured alums competing for a $100,000 cash prize during a shortened season of Big Brother. Three alums also served as co-hosts for the holiday-themed show.

Nicole Franzel won Big Brother: Reindeer Games, making her the first person to win two Big Brother USA shows. Cody Calafiore, Danielle Reyes, and Taylor Hale were also played.

Many Big Brother fans hoped that Reindeer Games would return this winter, giving everyone something to watch while we wait for BB27.

But there will be no Reindeer Games this winter. The producers revealed that the CBS schedule couldn’t find space due to BB26 ending late and the CBS primetime schedule beginning later in the fall.

Reindeer Games wasn’t canceled, though. Maybe it could return next winter.

Big Brother fans can watch former houseguests on a range of shows this winter, giving everyone replacement shows for Reindeer Games.

As previously reported by Monsters and Critics, Big Brother: Reindeer Games 2024 was canceled. The show could return in 2025 but has been shelved for now.

Reindeer Games debuted in 2023 and featured 12 former houseguests. Nine former players competed for a nice cash prize; three were co-hosts.

Unfortunately, a new season of The Amazing Race (debuting in 2025) lacks Big Brother alums.

Many teams of Big Brother houseguests have competed in seasons of The Amazing Race, and two couples have won. Jessica Graf and Cody Nickson from BB19 won The Amazing Race 30; Claire Rehfuss and Derek Xiao from BB23 won The Amazing Race 34.

Big Brother 27 casting has also begun, so fans who want to compete can apply for the Summer 2025 season.

It’s a yearly event to see former Big Brother houseguests dressed up, almost suggesting that being on the show indicates they have fun doing it.

Most of these folks had to wear costumes during their time in the Big Brother house, whether it was from a theme or due to a punishment.

Some folks are quite impressive with their costume game, especially when they put together a couple’s theme.

Big Brother fans have even gotten into the game again this year, with several people dressing as a BB26 cast member.

Viewers spent the last three days voting for their fave player at the official CBS website, with the Top 3 finishers being Tucker, Angela Murray and Quinn Martin.

The “Big Brother 26” season finale is set for October 13 on CBS at 9/8c, and just as important as finding out who will win the $750,000 grand prize is learning who will be named America’s Favorite Houseguest. This coveted honor comes with its own cash prize — a not-too-shabby $50,000 — and eternal bragging rights as viewers’ most-loved player of the summer. This season on Big Brother, fans got to see quite a few changes, including the addition of the A.I. Arena to the game. The A.I. arena gives houseguests the chance to remove themselves from the block on eviction night. This happens during the live episode on Thursday so even the houseguests won’t know who they will be voting for. However, this does implement one other major change. Will had a guest appearance to host a challenge on a new episode of The Traitors 2. In a new interview, Will shared his thoughts about fellow Big Brother alums who have played on The Traitors.

“See, I think some Big Brother players went on The Traitors to show that they ‘still got it’ — only to realize that they actually ‘never had it,'” Will said of Janelle, Rachel Reilly, Cody Calafiore, and Dan Gheesling.

“Kind of strange to consider, but it is possible that we never see any of them on our televisions ever again. The reunion show might end up serving as their wake,” Will added.
