Exclusive: The BET+ Original film Brewster’s Millions: Christmas is set to premiere on December 5, it has been revealed as production wraps.

The character of Montgomery Brewster was famously portrayed by Richard Pryor in the 1985 comedy Brewster’s Millions, based on the George Barr McCutcheon novel of the same name. Pryor’s son Richard Pryor Jr. will take on the role in the BET+ project with Rain Pryor starring as Opal.

Chris Rock headlines the voice cast of animated sequel Everybody Still Hates Chris, and here are the details.

Chris Rock attained superstardom following his second HBO stand-up special Bring The Pain in 1996. Hollywood beckoned, and he took supporting roles in the likes of Lethal Weapon 4 and Nurse Betty, as well as writing and directing feature films Down To Earth and Head Of State. After the much publicized incident at the Oscars two years ago, Rock released Netflix special Selective Outrage and co-starred in civil rights drama Rustin.

In 2005, autobiographical sitcom Everybody Hates Chris premiered on television. Broadcast on Channel 5 in the UK, the show portrays a semi-fictionalized version of Rock’s childhood. Tyler James Williams portrayed a teenage Rock, alongside Terry Crews as father Julius, Tichina Arnold as mother Rochelle, Tequan Richmond as younger brother Drew, Imani Hakim as younger sister Tonya and Vincent Martella as Rock’s school friend Greg.

If you thought everybody hated Chris in the early 2000s, wait until you see how much the disdain has grown in 2024. The comedy series Everybody Hates Chris, inspired by filmmaker Chris Rock’s teenage years, is getting reimagined for a new animated series called Everybody Still Hates Chris. Select actors from the original live-action series reprise their roles while newcomers join the hate parade coming to Comedy Central later this year.

Terry Crews and Tichina Arnold reprise their roles as Julius and Rochelle, respectively, with newcomers Tim Johnson Jr., Ozioma Akagha, Terrence Little Gardenhigh, and Gunnar Sizemore joining the cast.

Everybody Still Hates Chris will feature Chris Rock as “Adult Chris,” narrating stories inspired by his experience growing up as a skinny nerd in a large working-class family in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn, during the late 1980s.

Expect to hear some familiar voices on “Everybody Still Hates Chris,” Comedy Central’s upcoming animated take on the hit 2000s live action comedy “Everybody Hates Chris.” That includes star and executive producer Chris Rock, who narrated the original series and will do the same in the new version.

Also back are original stars Terry Crews and Tichina Arnold, who played Chris’ parents in the original series and will voice them in the animated edition. New cast members include Tim Johnson Jr., Ozioma Akagha, Terrence Little Gardenhigh and Gunnar Sizemore.

“Everybody Still Hates Chris” was first announced in August 2022. CBS Studios, Chris Rock Enterprises and 3 Arts Entertainment are behind the half-hour animated series, which premieres on Comedy Central later this year. (It will also air on Paramount+ at a later date.)

“I’m very excited to introduce the world to another funny side of my childhood,” Rock said in a statement.

Exclusive: Veteran manager Leonard Torgan, formerly of Cohn Torgan management, has joined forces with Brett Carducci as a partner in his new shingle, Aligned Entertainment Group, which will both manage and produce projects alongside clients.

Joining Leonard at Aligned are longtime clients Russell Hornsby (Bmf), Ash Zukerman (Succession), Tequan Richmond (Everybody Hates Chris), Samm Levine (Freaks and Geeks), David Rogers (Abbott Elementary), Kenric Green (The Walking Dead) and Hamish Michael (One More Shot), among others. They’re now part of a roster which also includes the likes of Ken Jeong, Omar J. Dorsey (Bookie) and Danielle Pinnock (Ghosts).

In addition to Torgan and Carducci, who founded the prior iteration of Aligned in 2009, others participating in the new venture include managers Frank Gonzales and Nikki Daurio.

Everybody Hates Chris is returning to the small screen in an animated format. MTV Entertainment Studios has ordered a sequel series to the Chris Rock sitcom titled Everybody Still Hates Chris. The Everybody Hates Chris, TV show aired on Upn and for a total of 88 episodes across four seasons. Everybody Hates Chris is officially getting an animated follow-up.

Paramount+ and Comedy Central have confirmed a series order for Everybody Still Hates Chris.

What's more, Chris Rock is set to return as the show's narrator, telling “stories inspired by his experiences growing up as a skinny nerd in a large working class family in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn, during the late 1980s.”

“Chris Rock is one of the most gifted comedians of all time and we’re excited to partner with him, 3 Arts and CBS Studios to bring this to life and welcome it as the next big hit in our expanding arsenal of iconic adult animation,” Chris McCarthy, President/CEO of Paramount Media Networks & MTV Entertainment Studios, said in a statement.

It’s been more than a decade since Everybody Hates Chris ended its run on The CW, and guess what? Everybody Still Hates Chris.

In fact, that’s the title being given to an animated reimagining of the family sitcom, which has officially been ordered to series at Paramount+ and Comedy Central.

CBS Studios is looking to its past for its latest reboot.

The company is developing a cartoon reboot of Everybody Hates Chris.

The live-action iteration first launched on Upn in 2005 before moving to The CW, but it was canceled after four seasons in 2009.

It focused on a young African-American teen's attempts to survive with his dysfunctional family and his all-white school in the 1980s.

Deadline first broke the news of the reboot and notes that Chris Rock, the narrator, and co-creator of the original series, is in line to return as the narrator.

The original series starred Tyler James Williams (The Walking Dead) as young Chris, Terry Crews (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) as Chris’ father Julius, and Tichina Arnold (The Neighborhood) as Chris’ mother, Rochelle.

The cast also included Tequan Richmond (General Hospital), Imani Hakim (Mythic Quest), and Vincent Martella (Phineas and Ferb).

It might’ve been a Tuesday night in Hollywood, but the “Boomerang” cast, crew and exec. producer Lena Waithe were ready to celebrate “Waithe Wednesdays” at the Bet drama’s second season premiere.

“It’s a beautiful time, you know,” Waithe told Variety at the event’s green carpet, speaking to press for the third time in just over a week, after the events celebrating her role on HBO’s “Westworld” and her new Bet series “Twenties,” which debuted on the network March 4 with nearly two million viewers tuning in.

Exclusive: Bet’s Boomerang is coming back for season 2 on March 11 and it’s bringing a talented roster of women of color to direct all eight episodes. The network also released a new trailer that gives an extended look at the comedy which puts Bryson (Tequan Richmond), Simone (Tetona Jackson) and the entire Boomerang gang in a whole new — and hyperrealistic — series of life lessons.

Lena Waithe’s Hillman Grad Productions have set Angeli Millan and Dime Davis as co-showrunners. Davis, who also worked on the show’s freshman season, directed four of the eight episodes while Tiffany Johnson and Katrelle N. Kindred will direct two episodes each. Kindred was brought on by Davis and is also a member of ViacomCBS’s ViewFinder Emerging TV Directors Program. Boomerang marks her TV directorial debut.

Hulu is continuing its long-running partnership with AwesomenessTV. The streamer has acquired Awesomeness horror series The Unsettling, which premiered on Friday ahead of Halloween.

The Unsettling follows 16-year-old Becca, who arrives at a foster home in a remote area, whereupon her siblings are less than welcoming -- especially the 11-year-old biological son of her foster parents. When seriously strange things start to happen, Becca becomes uncertain about who or what is responsible.

The series stars Holly Taylor, Tequan Richmond, An Li Bogan, Willow Shields, Alex Lange, Noah Grismer, Marguerite Moreau, and David Rogers -- a melange of both traditional actors and digital stars. Lange, for instance, is a burgeoning actor who also boasts a thriving presence on Instagram (2.3 million followers) and YouTube, where he shares vlogs, challenges, and short films. Lange was also an early member of Jake Paul’s creator collective Team 10, though he left that venture in Dec.

In today’s TV news roundup, NBC announced the “Making It” Season 2 premiere date and HBO Max greenlit a new docuseries from Brad Goreski and Gary Janetti.

The series, created by Andrew Jacobsen and Adam Epstein and directed by Chris Grismer, follows 16-year-old Becca as she arrives at her new foster home located in a remote area. Her foster siblings are less than welcoming, none more so than the 11-year-old biological son of Becca’s new foster parents.

Becca tries to keep to herself and adjust to her new home, but strange things start to happen around her, and she’s is uncertain about who or what is responsible.

The Orchard has debuted the official trailer for an indie drama titled Savage Youth, which premiered at the Slamdance Film Festival last year and stopped by a few other small festivals. The second feature from director Michael Curtis Johnson, Savage Youth is set in small town America following a group of young people. Based on a true story, six young lives collide in the most horrific and twisted of ways. Described as a "brutal examination of doomed youth exiled to society's edge." The film stars Grace Victoria Cox, Tequan Richmond, Will Brittain, Chloe Levine, Mitchell Edwards, J. Michael Trautmann, and Sasha Feldman. Looks like yet another forgettable kids-are-crazy indie flick. Fans of the 1992 romantic comedy “Boomerang” who are looking to see the original film’s cast appear on Bet’s upcoming sequel series shouldn’t hold their breath.

Well, no, you might see executive producer Halle Berry reprising her role. But as far as everyone else goes? We’ll have to wait and see, because Berry hasn’t asked her former co-stars to appear on Lena Waithe’s updated take on “Boomerang.”

“You might see me at some point,” Berry told reporters during the Television Critics Association press tour Monday, with a little laugh.

Lena Waithe has praised Viacom-owned Bet for speaking the same language as her on the half-hour comedy Boomerang. Waithe and Halle Berry are exec producing the remake of the 1992 movie, in which Berry starred alongside Eddie Murphy. They are joined on the team by by Dime Davis and Ben Cory Jones, who is showrunner on the series from Paramount Television and Bet Networks.

“Most of the shows I do are being pushed through a white filter. All hail Queen Helen Mirren: HBO has released the first photo of the Oscar winner in the four-part miniseries Catherine the Great.

Mirren stars as the Russian empress “towards the end of her reign during her passionate affair with Grigory Potemkin (played by The Chicago Code‘s Jason Clarke),” per the official description. “Amid scandal, intrigue and immense conflict, they develop a unique and devoted relationship, overcoming their adversaries and together serving as the architects of modern-day Russia.”
