Anthony and Joe Russo, the Russo Brothers, have directed some of the biggest movies of all time, with their film Avengers: Endgame coming in second place just behind James Cameron’s Avatar… but that hasn’t made it any easier to get their sci-fi adventure film The Electric State out into the world. The project was first announced back in 2017 and experienced multiple ups, downs, and behind-the-scenes shake-ups on its way to production, with filming beginning in 2022 and wrapping in early 2023. Reshoots followed in 2024. Guardians of the Galaxy‘s Chris Pratt and Stranger Things‘ Millie Bobby Brown explore the world of rebellious robots in the trailer for The Electric State, a sci-fi adventure from Joe and Anthony Russo (Avengers: Endgame). The Netflix adaptation of The Electric State looks dramatically different from the original illustrated book.

Based on the illustrated sci-fi novel of the same name by Simon Stålenhag, released in 2018, the movie will be directed by Joe and Anthony Russo of Avengers: Endgame fame with a script written by frequent collaborators Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.

The film will star Millie Bobby Brown of Stranger Things (now going by a new name) as Michelle, alongside Chris Pratt as Keats, who helps her and her friendly robot companion, Skip, traverse a desolated United States ravaged by robots.

The next two Avengers movies have evolved a lot since they were first announced, and Marvel Studios recently turned to the Russo Brothers to end the Multiverse Saga with Doomsday and Secret Wars.

Collider spoke to Joe and Anthony at New York Comic Con this weekend and got confirmation that Avengers: Doomsday will begin shooting next Spring.

However, unlike Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, the two movies won't be shot back-to-back in such quick succession.

"It'll be similar, but we'll have a larger break in between the two movies than we did," Joe said. "I think it was four weeks maybe? Was it four weeks between Infinity War and Endgame?"

This past weekend at San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel Studios officially said goodbye to Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and hello to Avengers: Doomsday. 

This of course means that Marvel is likely done with Jonathan Majors' Kang the Conqueror as the season 2 finale of Loki allows the film studio to tie up the Kang/Tva storyline with no loose ends.

It seems TMZ has caught up with Majors in West Hollywood early yesterday morning, where they asked the actor about his feelings on being replaced by Robert Downey Jr.'s Victor von Doom in the next two Avengers films.

"Yeah, I'm heartbroken," said Majors in response to the question. "Of course [I'm heartbroken]. I love him, I love Kang. Doctor Doom is wicked, though."

The TMZ reporter then asked if Majors thought it was unfair that Robert Downey Jr. has a convicted felony charge for drug and weapon possessions on his rap sheet, whereas Majors only has a misdemeanor.

From roughly 2014 to 2019—starting with Captain America: The Winter Soldier and ending with Avengers: Endgame—Marvel Studios and the Marvel Cinematic Universe went on a run of massively successful films that dominated pop culture on a global scale. It arguably represented the absolute peak of the superhero genre’s reach and power, and certainly its popularity. We've all been wondering what Marvel Studios would do about its Kang problem and it appears Doctor Doom was the solution after all! Avengers: The Kang Dynasty has been officially retitled Avengers: Doomsday and will release in May 2026.

As for Avengers: Secret Wars, that's set to follow a year later in May 2027, presumably ending the Multiverse Saga.

However, by far the biggest news to come out of the hour-long Hall H panel was the revelation that Robert Downey Jr. is returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Doctor Doom!

It sounds like he'll appear in both upcoming Avengers movies and, as expected, those will be directed by Avengers: Endgame helmers Joe and Anthony Russo. They've steered Marvel Studios to huge success in the past so it makes perfect sense to trust them with the Multiverse Saga's two most important projects.

Joining them will be Stephen McFeely as the writer of both movies.

Marvel officially confirmed that Joe and Anthony Russo on stage to announce that they’ll be directing both “Avengers 5” (now titled “Avengers: Doomsday”) and “Avengers: Secret Wars.” Stephen McFeely, who cowrote the Russos’ previous Marvel films with Christopher Markus, will write the screenplays for both movies.

Marvel announced the Russo Brothers’ return by first showing a sizzle of all of the Marvel Studios films the Russos had previously directed — “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” “Captain America: Civil War,” “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame.” As they walked out, the thunderous crowd shouted “Russo! Russo!”

The Russos said, “We missed you guys. You are the best damn fans in the world.”

“Being able to create stories and explore characters within the Marvel Universe fulfilled a life-long dream of ours, and we discovered a powerful connection with audiences in each film that we made,” the Russo Brothers said in a statement.

Yesterday evening, the news broke that the Russo Brothers are in talks with Marvel Studios to direct Avengers 5 and Avengers: Secret Wars.

Now, Jeff Sneider has shared what he's heard about the situation on The Hot Mic podcast. It sounds like Joe and Anthony approached Marvel Studios first, only to be turned down because the studio was already in talks with other filmmakers.

We know Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy was being eyed to helm Avengers 5 at one point but is thought to have passed so he can focus on other projects, including a Star Wars movie.

When Captain America: The First Avenger Writers Settled The Debate About Chris Evans Played Steve Rogers( Photo Credit – Facebook )

Chris Evans’ Captain America is kind of the moral compass of the Avengers team, whose past was explored in 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger. However, there were quite a few things that bothered the fans, like how Steve Rogers became accustomed to the new world, and a bigger question than that was whether he was virg*n. A deleted scene explained how Steve got used to the modern world, and the doubt about his virgin*ty was cleared a decade later by the movie’s writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. In the first movie, Steve is a skinny person who lacks the physique of a soldier, but his resolution and determination surpass everyone else’s. Thus, he was chosen to be given the super soldier serum and transformed physically.

Avengers: Endgame sits at 94% on Rotten Tomatoes with more than 550 reviews. However, with many critics turning on superhero movies in recent years, there's been an increase in "superhero fatigue" talk and a general, often overly harsh, criticism of the genre.

However, one person who won't put up with the 2019 movie being torn down in any way is singer and talk show host Kelly Clarkson.

In a new video posted on The Kelly Clarkson Show's YouTube channel, the American Idol winner responds to negative Letterboxd reviews. In the case of Avengers: Endgame, she was having none of it.

"Who gave this a bad review?" Clarkson wondered before mocking critics: "'Ugh, it’s just these big epic Marvel things. These big epic superhero movies.' Fans love them. Not everything has to be Shawshank Redemption. Whatever."

A science fiction thriller set to be released sometime in 2024, The Electric State is set to become one of the most expensive movies ever made, and is set to cost a whopping $320 million.

Kevin Feige had a far crazier idea for Avengers: Endgame climax inspired by the Toy Story 3 ending. Feige wanted to kill off all the six Og Avengers at the end of the film and proposed the idea to directors Russo brothers and screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. However, they shot down the idea since the directors believed that they could not do justice to all these character deaths.

Moreover, too many deaths would’ve left the audience in a disappointed and confused state. The sacrifices of Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow and Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man were the only ones required to create an emotional impact on the viewers. With Captain America’s fitting happy ending, fans were overwhelmed with emotions while leaving the theaters.
