Jason Stutter started in the film industry as an editor before switching gears to become a director. He has directed six feature length films: most recently he directed the 2024 comedy 'Barbed Wire Canoe' and the scary thriller 'The Dead Room', starring Jed Brophy, which is selling internationally including the US with IFC Films. 'The Dead Room' premiered in official selection at the Sitges film festival - the largest genre festival in the world. Previously he has directed gothic comedy 'Predicament', and cult comedies 'Tongan Ninja', 'Diagnosis: Death' and 'Edwin' which won best actor at the Los Angeles Comedy Festival. Jason is also the creator of the award winning trilogy of short films 'Careful with that...' Jason's films have screened in over one hundred international film festivals. As well as his film work, Jason has directed commercials for New Zealand's top advertising creatives. Jason runs the successful Wellington production company Spooky Pictures who have produced and directed productions throughout New Zealand and internationally.
