If you’re a massive It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia fan in 2025, chances are, you weren’t here 20 years ago when the budget was $200, Mac was into women and Frank was still far off-screen with his whoo-ur wife.
The humble origins of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia are the stuff of TV legend. In the early 2000s, Rob McElhenney, frustrated with the constant auditioning and regular rejection that typifies an up-and-coming actor’s life in Hollywood, convinced Charlie Day and Glenn Howerton to shoot a short film about a bunch of a-holes living in his hometown of Philadelphia. Using a camcorder purchased with the proceeds from Glenn Howerton’s short-lived starring role on That ‘80s Show, the three friends filmed a rough cut of what would eventually become the Season One episode “Charlie Has Cancer” and sent it to as many agents and networks as they knew, eventually getting a...

Ruth. Gehrig. Mantle. Dimaggio. Costanza?
Against all odds, George Louis Costanza has become one of the most famous members of the New York Yankees organization. The real-life Yankees even gave away George bobbleheads at a game earlier this year. And a wax sculpture of George currently sits in Cooperstown — well, a museum in Cooperstown. The Heroes of Baseball Wax Museum features a replica of George being aggressively talked at by a George Steinbrenner dummy.
Naturally, George also has his own baseball card. One Seinfeld fan was able to score a Costanza rookie card for a measly $10, and recently posted pictures of their find on the “Genius Seinfeld Quotes” Facebook page.

So how much is it worth? While Babe Ruth’s rookie card sold for $7.2 million, unfortunately George’s rookie card value isn’t quite that high.

As MLB Hall-of-Famer Wade Boggs fights prostate cancer, the It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia fandom has united in agreement that we’re all going to retire that one line until he beats it.
Boggs, 66, is a former 12-time All-Star, five-time batting champion and a World Series winner, but since he never played in a Philadelphia Phillies uniform, his primary impact on the City of Brotherly Love is his contribution to the field of mile-high partying — on a cross-country flight from Boston to Los Angeles while playing for the Boston Red Sox, Boggs famously drank an absurd number of beers in a plane ride that became the stuff of baseball legend while inspiring one of the most quotable It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia episodes of all time.

Hello again, everybody. JoBlo.com here bidding you a big Wahoo welcome to Wtf Happened to This Movie?! That’s right, the Cleveland Indians are well on their way to clinching the Al East – which means the 1989 sports comedy Major League is well on its way to becoming a classic of the genre.
But how did Major League reach this status? How did it become one of the most quotable comedies of the decade? How did the cast pull off pitching, swinging and winning like a professional baseball team? How did it go on to represent Cleveland even though it wasn’t even shot there? And why did they have to make those sequels? Well, let’s go juuuuuust a bit outside to find out: Wtf Happened to this Movie?!
You might be surprised to know that Major League comes courtesy of the same guy who won an Oscar for writing The Sting.

"It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" is first and foremost about drinking, and perhaps no other episode showcases the gang's talents for knocking back cold ones quite like "The Gang Beats Boggs." In the season 10 premiere, the Paddy's Pub proprietors take a plane ride with the sole intention of beating the record for most beers consumed on a plane, a record set by former Red Sox third baseman Wade Boggs. The actual number of beers he drank is the subject of much debate, as is touched upon in the episode, but the Hall-of-Famer revealed the real number to series co-creator and star Charlie Day.
The idea for the episode spawned from the real-life legend of Boggs' triumph, revealed co-creator and star Glenn Howerton. "I think somebody was talking about the legend of Wade Boggs and how he drank [a lot of] beers on a cross-country flight, and we realized it would be a great...

Eleven seasons. Two hundred and seventy-five episodes. Twenty-eight Emmy Awards. Yes, “Cheers” was one of the longest-running, most successful – and most beloved – situation comedies in television history. And a milestone is about to be reached this weekend: 30 years since the series finale aired on NBC. Saturday marks precisely 30 years since the show bid prime time adieu on May 20, 1993, the last time Sam (Ted Danson) poured Norm (George Wendt) a glass of beer at the famed Boston bar.
To celebrate the event, Pluto TV’s Sitcom Legends channel will be airing a marathon of the entire final “Cheers” season, which comprises a whopping 26 episodes in the era before streaming, this Saturday the 20th. It begins at 7 a.m. Pt/10 a.m. Et with the first episode of Season 11 and continues in order through the finale. Almost no one can put away drinks like the debaucherous gang from "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia," but legendary baseball player Wade Boggs would give them a run for their money. In the season 10 premiere, the dive bar owners hop on a cross-country flight to tackle Boggs' record of 70 beers in transit. The actual number is disputed — Boggs himself claims it's even higher than legend would have us believe — but the episode's premise remains hilarious.
"[Boggs] was famous for baseball, he was also famous for the amount of beer he could drink," series co-creator and star Charlie Day explained to Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show when the episode first aired. "Supposedly, when they would have these cross-country flights, he would drink on average 40 to 50, some say 70 beers. So our characters are trying to break that record in the episode ... and then see if we can hit a baseball the next day,...

In August of 2022, a clip from the "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" 2009 episode "The Great Recession" went viral. It was the scene where Mac and Dennis realize that Paddy Bucks, their self-created currency designed to beat the nationwide economic downturn, is a sham that they don't even understand. To call it funny is an understatement. It was attached to a tweet about crypto investors and the failing crypto market of 2022; to call the Paddy's Bucks clip prophetic is also an understatement.
This is the lasting appeal of Rob McElhenney, Charlie Day, and Glenn Howerton's groundbreaking Fxx show in microcosm. The half-hour comedy primarily set at Paddy's Pub is about the worst people on Earth. They do reprehensible things with startling frequency. Within their consistent awfulness, though, is an equally constant incisiveness about toxic masculinity, white supremacy, social structures, and the human condition at large. Paddy Bucks are just the tip of the comic iceberg.

When “It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia” returns Wednesday, September 5, we’ll see the show do something it’s only rarely done in the past: be sincere. In an episode from Season 13, previewed for critics at the Television Critics Association press tour Friday, Frank (Danny Devito) learns to be more accepting of Mac’s (Rob McElhenney) sexuality, which Mac explores with a jaw-dropping modern dance performance.
The episode, entitled “Mac Finds His Pride” is all part of the strategy for the new batch of episodes, which will feature less of Dennis (Glenn Howerton) following Howerton’s decision at the end of Season 12 to step back a bit from the long-running FX comedy.
Dennis is not completely absent from the season — “he’s in the majority of [episodes],” executive producer/star Charlie Day said — but more episodes will focus on other characters, including what’s billed as an “all-female reboot” of the...

Twenty-five years ago, back in 1992, Homer Simpson did what was only possible for Homer Simpson, and that was singlehandedly win a big softball game for his power plant team. The Season 3 episode, “Homer at the Bat,” told the story of this tremendous athletic achievement, one which also involved Mlb players like Wade Boggs, Jose Canseco, and Steve Sax in the city of Springfield.

John-Kamen climbs aboard the movie in an as-yet undisclosed role alongside a bumper crop of acting talent that includes Tye Sheridan, Olivia Cooke, Ben Mendelsohn, T.J. A relative unknown at this point, the actress is gathering a resume of solid screen credits that features an episode of the upcoming Black Mirror season 3 and a stint as a Dothraki widow in Game of Thrones.
As for the movie itself, Spielberg’s taking on an ambitious storyline that takes place in the year 2044 when people rarely live in the real world, instead choosing to plug into a virtual reality matrix called Oasis.

The It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia crew typically spend most of their time drinking in Paddy's Pub, but they switch it up for the season 10 premiere by taking their beers to a whole new location: an airplane. Charlie, Mac, Dennis, Dee, and Frank hardly venture out of the bar, let alone Philadelphia, so the fact that they even made it on a plane—a place that requires its passengers to be way more polite than the five combined are even capable of being—is impressive. But how they made it on the plane is a mystery: By the time they take their seats,...

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia Season 10
Created by Rob McElhenney
Premieres January 14th at 10pm (Et) on Fxx
The key art for this season of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia depicts the cast as hair metal rockers, complete with giant hair, face paint, and metal studs everywhere. This excess and confidence is well deserved—10 seasons in, Always Sunny is one of television’s most consistent, laugh-out-loud funny series. Surviving to a tenth season is an impressive and rare feat for any show, but with its upcoming episodes, the series does more than survive, it delivers some of its best episodes yet.
The tenth season combines familiar group-hangout setups as well as a few episodes that break from the series’ established patterns and dynamics.
The season premiere sees the gang attempt to top the legendary drinking record of third baseman Wade Boggs. Episode four (“Charlie Work”, airing February 4th...

January is looking to be one of the coldest months we’ve seen in the United States in a long while, but there’s no real reason to go outside anyway now that FX and Fxx has unveiled premiere dates for a host of their original series, including modern Western Justified, animated spy comedy Archer and Cold War espionage drama The Americans. Also on the cards for January are the return of enduring comedy It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and the series premiere of Fxx’s comedy Man Seeking Woman.
Up first is Archer, which will return for its sixth season on January 8th, at 10 p.m. on FX. The network’s #1 rated comedy series, Archer revolves around an international spy agency and the lives of its employees. Though the spies go on missions and occasionally topple an enemy government, they devote the lion’s share of their time to ridiculing,...

[As you probably already know, starting on Thursday, August 21, Fxx is running the Every Simpsons Ever Marathon, running through all 552 episodes of "The Simpsons," plus "The Simpsons Movie." To aid in your viewing process, Team HitFix is selecting our favorite episodes from each day, plus an episode or two that you can skip and use as a bathroom or nap break.] Picking episodes for Day 1 of Fxx's Every Simpsons Ever Marathon was relatively easy. Yes, "The Simpsons" was quite fine right off the bat and it only improved as the show moved into its second season, but the fans here at HitFix were able to cobble together a clear list of favorites without any hugely disappointing exclusions. Day 2 was far more difficult. We have five participants picking episodes here and we each snagged two favorites for the day, which stretches from "Bart's Dog Gets an F" through to "Last Exit to Springfield," or from Episode 29 through Episode 76. I think we represented many of the best episodes from this fertile early period, but if I had been about to select four or five, I could have easily done it. My greatest regret is that we didn't have room for "Selma's Choice," which has possibly my favorite opening of the entire series --...

We're continuing this periodic summer project where we revisit classic sitcom episode. This week we're going waaaay back to the 1950s for one of the most famous television half hours of them all: "Job Switching," from "I Love Lucy" season 2, coming up just as soon as I show you the creases on these silk stockings... "Job Switching," which first aired in 1952, is by far going to be the oldest episode we do in this series (unless "The Honeymooners" magically starts streaming before the summer is out), and I'm going to be very curious for your reactions to it. Ken Levine occasionally will do posts where he asks his readers what they think of vintage sitcom episodes, and the reaction tends to be mixed, and leaning more towards negative among people who didn't grow up in one of the previous peak periods for multi-cam comedy. In terms of sitcoms that have...

Bryan Cranston is a master of his craft, easily assuming the complex persona of former President Lyndon B. Johnson or diving into the life of the maniacal meth kingpin Walter White — but it turns out the great actor does not know how to pronounce "Badonkadonk." Cranston tripped over the bootylicious term during a riotous game of "Word Sneak" on The Tonight Show Monday night, mouthing to the camera "I don't know what that is" while host Jimmy Fallon lost it.

Here's a video of Jimmy Fallon and Bryan Cranston playing a game called "Word Sneak," in which they have to sneak incongruous words casually into a conversation. This clip is worth watching mostly to see Cranston giggling like a schoolgirl and being generally adorable, but it also has some informational value; for one thing, we learned that Cranston has no idea what badonkadonk means, bless his heart. We also learned that Godzilla does not wear dungarees at any point in the upcoming movie, although jury's still out on whether he is a Wade Boggs fan who eats his guacamole with a spork.

Further evidence that dreams really can come true, so long as those dreams initially have a movie made about them: The eastern Iowa Field of Dreams movie site has officially been sold to an investors group called Go The Distance Baseball LLC. As reported by CBS news, the investment group — which counts among its membership baseball legend Wade Boggs — will transform the site into a massive baseball complex with 24 fields, mainly for youth baseball and softball.
So if you and your buddies are planning to play softball in the Dyersville area sometime in 2014, it’s entirely possible that Wade Boggs...

The beloved ballpark that Kevin Costner’s character built in Field Of Dreams has gotten a happy ending. According to reports, Go The Distance, an investment group that includes baseball Hall of Famer Wade Boggs, paid $3.4 million for the 193-acre Iowa site owned by Don and Becky Lansing. Boggs and cohorts plan to open All Star Ballpark Heaven, a complex that will feature 24 baseball and softball fields. Those fields will be fashioned for tournament play, and it looks like they’ll keep intact the original field from the film. Now, they’ve just got to hope that those tournament teams will come, but it’s a heckuva lot better than the alternative of roto-tilling it over and restoring the corn fields. Fields from classic baseball films haven’t fared very well over the years. Major League was filmed in Milwaukee’s County Stadium and the outside facade was Cleveland’s Municipal Stadium,...

If you build it, they will sue. Plans to erect an "All-Star Ballpark Heaven" on the same Iowa site used in the 1989 baseball film, Field of Dreams, has prompted a game of litigation. In the movie, Kevin Costner rips up his cornfield to build a baseball diamond and is eventually rewarded for this crazy, financially-draining move by getting to play ball with the 1919 White Sox and his father. In real life, Go the Distance Baseball LLC, a development company run by Denise and Mike Stillman with financial backing from Hall of Fame player Wade Boggs, is

James Roday and Dule Hill are already well into season 6 on Psych, which so far has featured many classic shenanigans between psychic detective Shawn Spencer and his partner Chest Rockwell. Oh wait, I meant Sh’Dynasty, spelled with a coma-to-the-top (that’s God’s comma). Actually it’s both, and neither.

Psych made its best pitch this week. It swung for the fences. It threw a few curveballs at the audience. Point being: the episode was centered on baseball and featured a trip of fun guest stars.
Below, staff writer Chandel Charles has gathered a new quartet of fans - Kathy, William, Sarah Ann and Jamie - for another Round Table discussion, as they break down the latest antics from Shawn, Gus and company...

What was your favorite moment/quote from the episode and why?
Chandel: Shawn and Henry arguing over his call at the game. It's been a while since we've these two engage in an all-out shouting match, but what made it even funnier was that Gus and Juliet were watching and providing commentary. It was a pretty entertaining way to begin an episode.

Play ball!
Psych found Shawn and Gus venturing into the world of minor league baseball on "Dead Man's Curveball," as they investigated the mysterious death of the team's assistant coach. While it wasn't as much of a home run as I might of liked, the episode at least got to third base.
Typically, I find myself in love with every hour of Psych, but I couldn't help but feel a little bit like Juliet in the stands during the game: I was there, but that magazine sure looked good. Maybe it's because I'm not usually a super big fan of baseball? At least my slight distaste for the sport in no way hindered this installment from continuing Psych's fantastically entertaining sixth season. In fact, there were some purely brilliant moments that really made it worth watching.
First and foremost, we had the opening sequence with Shawn, Gus, Lassiter, Juliet...

Psych is back tonight with a pretty star-studded episode, as Danny Glover (he of Lethal Weapon fame), Michael Trucco (he of Castle fame) and Wade Boggs (he of Boston Red Sox fame) guest star.
Yep, that last bit means tonight's episode is all about baseball -- specifically, the death of a hitting coach in a minor league team. It looks like a heart attack at first, but the team's boss is skeptical, so enter Shawn and Gus. Knowing them, odd things will go down. How exactly? These three preview clips should make things a wee bit clearer.

Psych returns tonight at 10/9c, and the hit show isn't slowing down this season. Still loaded with incredible guest stars and pineapples, it's as fun as ever, and somehow still comes through fresh as the first season. Of course, even I have to admit that a couple of episodes last season went a bit off, but there were also some amazing efforts in there, and this season is kicking off with some brilliant shows.
Tonight's episode, "Shawn Rescues Darth Vader," brings us guest stars Malcolm McDowell and Polly Walker, and gives us not only a good case, but throws us right into the heart of the relationship/work troubles sure to arise betweeen Shawn and Juliet. The case finds Shawn stuck in a rather serious predicament, and one that means he has to get unusually specific in his predictions, which raises its own red...
