David Safran is a writer, singer, producer, and musician. A noted figure in Chicago's music scene, Safran has attracted acclaim for his "boundary-breaking tunes" (WNUR) and dark, provocative lyrics "spike[d]...with humor" (The Chicago Reader). Safran has lent his music or distinctive baritone voice to many brands and organizations-from Adidas to Amnesty International-and has performed or collaborated with many artists such as Academy-award winner, Jorge Drexler; internationally acclaimed French songwriter, Keren Ann; Grammy Award-nominated composer, Susan Voelz; and guitar icon, Marc Ribot. Beyond songwriting, Safran is a freelance writer contributing articles to both national and local outlets. Many of his pieces are wry personal discoveries - for example, "the sorrows of jingle-writing," to quote Kurt Loder - often speaking truth to power.
