Folks who grew up on Nickelodeon's kid-friendly sketch comedy series "All That" have been clamoring for a return to the chaotically unclean confines of Good Burger, and now that it's here, I'll let those whose satiric sensibilities were partially formed by the original pass judgment on the quality of the sequel.

I do, however, know Sinbad. A comedic force of nature, I first saw the man rack up multiple wins on the Ed McMahon-hosted talent competition "Star Search" in the 1980s. I remember watching him besting a young Dennis Miller; this bothered me at the time, but considering Miller's career trajectory, I am firmly in Sinbad's camp. After all, who else possessed the bravery to ask which part of the chicken produced the Chicken McNugget?

Arriving a whopping 26 years after 1997’s cult-favorite Nickelodeon comedy, “Good Burger 2” fits the streaming-era trend in which audiences seek a nostalgia bump reconnecting with old favorites, like “Coming to America” or “Hocus Pocus” — not exactly classics so much as modest pleasures from more innocent times. In this obnoxiously unfunny followup from Paramount+, stars Kel Mitchell and Kenan Thompson return as hapless fast food employees. To update the story to 2023, director Phil Traill and screenwriters Kevin Kopelow and Heath Seifert add a few new characters and a tiresome AI plot, winding up with a Thanksgiving diversion that functions just fine playing in the background as families gather for their holiday meals.

Kel Mitchell was all smiles at the Good Burger 2 premiere in New York on Monday night, just days after he experienced a “genuinely frightening” medical incident.

The actor seemed to be in good spirits at the Regal Union Square event, where he was accompanied by wife Asia Lee-Mitchell and their children, with Kel and Asia carrying their excited kids down the carpet.

Later, when Mitchell’s longtime onscreen collaborator and Good Burger 2 co-star Kenan Thompson arrived, one of Mitchell’s kids ran straight to Thompson, who gave the child a hug.

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter before the screening of the Paramount+ sequel, Mitchell insisted he’s “good,” something he’s said multiple times since the health scare.

But he also shared some perspective on the incident and indicated that he was happily persevering.

Variety has learned exclusively that the comedy duo, who star in the upcoming film “Good Burger 2,” will be onboard when the Burgermobile from the film takes part in the 97th annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

It was previously announced that the iconic car would be part of the parade, though Thompson and Mitchell’s participation was not known at that time. Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell are hungry to save their jobs in the first full trailer for Paramount+’s comedy sequel Good Burger 2.

The streaming service released the trailer Monday for director Phil Traill’s film that is set to launch Nov. 22. The movie centers on Dexter (Thompson) and Ed (Mitchell) reuniting as staff members at Good Burger as the pair attempt to help the struggling fast food establishment amid its parent company’s plans to grow the brand.

This footage shows plenty of hijinks for the two leads as they get reconnected. “It really means a lot that you came to see me,” Mitchell tells Thompson.

At a different point in the trailer, the guys learn that MegaCorp is planning to expand Good Burger globally but intends to fire the restaurant’s staff. “MegaCorp wants to replace everybody with robots,” Thompson warns. “We gotta do something!”

"Good Burger" is a rather unlikely success story of '90s kids' entertainment. Back in the '90s, Nickelodeon created a sketch comedy show titled "All That," which was essentially the kids' version of "Saturday Night Live." It ran absurd sketches and launched the careers of many actors like Amanda Bynes, Nick Cannon, Katrina Johnson, Jack DeSena, Kel Mitchell, and Kenan Thompson — who would go on to become the longest-reigning "SNL" cast member ever.

And just like "SNL," "All That" would see some sketches turn into spin-offs, with the biggest one being "Good Burger." In the sketches, Kenan and Kel starred as Dexter and Ed, two fast food joint workers who get into all sorts of hijinks. Paramount+ has set a Thanksgiving week release for Good Burger 2, the comedy sequel starring Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell. Good Burger 2 will premiere Wednesday, November 22, exclusively on Paramount+ in the U.S and Canada, on Thursday, November 23, 2023 on Paramount+ in the UK and Australia. Freeform is teeing up its spring premieres. The network announced release dates for several series on Wednesday, including the fifth season of Good Trouble.

Good Trouble will return for Season 5 on March 16 at 10 p.m. Et/Pt. Maia Mitchell, who exited the series last season, will be reprising her role as Callie Adams-Foster in the first episode of the season. The roommates at The Coterie will face their toughest obstacles yet as they’re confronted with evolving relationship challenges and new career opportunities. Through highs and lows, romance and heartbreak, The Coterie crew will lean on each other while they navigate the next stage of adulthood.

The series stars Cierra Ramirez, Tommy Martinez, Emma Hunton, Sherry Cola, Zuri Adele, Josh Pence, Bryan Craig and Booboo Stewart. It is executive produced by Joanna Johnson, Christine Sacani, Greg Gugliotta, Jennifer Lopez, Benny Medina, Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas and Cierra Ramirez. Johnson also serves as showrunner.

Single Drunk Female follows 20-something alcoholic Samantha Fink (Black-d’Elia) who, after a public flame-out at a New York media company, is forced to seize the only chance she has to sober up and avoid jail time: moving back home with her overbearing mother, Carol (Sheedy). Back in Greater Boston, Samantha sets out on a path to move past her worst self and figure out her best self. Kinda.

“Single Drunk Female” is getting a Season 2.

Freeform announced the renewal of the series, which stars Sofia Black-d’Elia and Ally Sheedy, on Tuesday morning.

The cable network has also picked up “While You Were Breeding,” a dramedy, to series. “While You Were Breeding,” is based on the memoir from Kristin Newman.

Here’s the logline for the new show: “‘While You Were Breeding’ follows Kacey, single for the first time in her 30s, as she escapes her fast-paced life in Los Angeles to see the world. From culture clash to vacation romances, this internationally set dramedy is a globetrotting journey of self-discovery that will inspire the wanderlust inside everyone.”

Freeform’s comedy series Single Drunk Female got off a promising ratings start. The January 20 launch has amassed over 2.4 million multiplatform viewers in Live+7, according to Nielsen and Freeform, marking the network’s biggest comedy premiere since the Jan. 3, 2018 debut of grown-ish more than four years ago.

The opening episode also was the most-watched Freeform comedy series premiere on Hulu, and the second-best performance overall for a Freeform series premiere on the platform, behind only Cruel Summer, which averaged 3.81 million multi-platform viewers in its first week.

There is a caveat. Freeform has only launched one comedy series since grown-ish, Everything’s Gonna Be Okay, plus the pandemic-themed 2020 entry Love in the Time of Corona. Still, Single Drunk Female‘s performance is respectable for a comedy on basic cable which traditionally are hard to launch. It complements the show’s critical success with 100% on Rotten Tomatoes.

For Simone Finch, the creator and executive producer behind Freeform’s upcoming Single Drunk Female, the comedy starring Sofia Black-d’Elia and Ally Sheedy comes from a deeply personal place.

During the show’s TCA panel on Wednesday Finch shared that Single Drunk Female first originated nearly a decade ago as she struggled with addiction after her father’s death.

“I started writing this in 2012 before I got sober and I got sober and I realized it was about a girl getting sober,” said Finch, who is now seven years and eight months sober, adding “I called it a living script as it sort of evolved as I got more sober.”

Freeform is the latest network to appear it the Television Critics Association winter press tour, and we got many announcements.

Leading the day was the premiere date of Cruel Summer, the network's new Jessica Biel-produced thriller.

The series will premiere with a two-hour event on Tuesday, April 20, at 9:00 p.m.

From executive producer Jessica Biel (The Sinner), Cruel Summer is a psychological thriller that follows two young women: Kate Wallis, the popular girl with a charmed life who one day goes missing, and Jeanette Turner, the nerdy wannabe who is accused of being connected to Kate’s disappearance.

All signs point to Jeanette’s guilt, but is Kate really who she seems to be? Set over three summers and told through shifting points of view, the series challenges perception and follows how one girl can go from being a sweet outlier to the most despised person in America.

The half-hour project, produced by 20th Television, was written by Simone Finch, who has worked on The Connors, with Girls co-showrunner Jenni Konner and Good Girls and Fresh Off The Boat director Phil Traill exec producing. Freeform has begun production on holiday movie No Sleep ‘Till Christmas, with real-life husband and wife Dave and Odette Annable set to star. The pic is slated to air as part of Freeform’s annual holiday programming, “25 Days of Christmas.”

The romantic comedy written by Phil Traill and Steve Smith centers on two insomniac strangers plagued by exhaustion. Lizzie is a high-end event planner preparing for her own life’s biggest event — her wedding. She lies awake nightly while her devoted fiancé Josh rests peacefully, unaware of how to solve her issue. When a sleep-deprived incident causes her to run into Billy, a low-key bartender who is just as sleepless and frustrated as she is, they discover that they can only fall asleep while next to each other. What seems like an odd coincidence, and frankly a disruption to their lives, might be more meaningful than they’d like to admit.
