Helena Brooks is an award-winning film and television director known for her work in both drama and comedy. Her recent projects include POPULATION: 11, starring Ben Feldman, which won Best Comedy Director at the Australian Directors Guild Awards, and the upcoming crime-drama BLACK SNOW, featuring Travis Fimmel.
Helena has built a reputation for setting the tone on high-profile productions as a set-up director. Her credits include the ABC comedy GOLD DIGGERS, which earned her an ADG nomination for Best Comedy Director, and THE BAD SEED, hailed as New Zealand's best noir since TOP OF THE LAKE.
Her short film NOTHING SPECIAL was nominated for the Palme d'Or at Cannes. She also directed Netflix's WELLMANIA, starring Celeste Barber, FUNNY GIRLS, led by Rose Matafeo, THE GULF for Sundance Now, and THE MESSENGER for ABC.
With an M.A. in Screenwriting & Directing and a B.A. in Film & Philosophy, Helena continues to refine her craft. She has completed Directing Actors courses with Judith Weston and Miranda Harcourt and attended masterclasses at the British Film Institute in London with industry giants Ridley Scott, Charlie Kaufman, and Jean-Pierre Jeunet.
