This time round its the horror film Midnight Movie, in particular the “Killer Cut” which was released years after the films original debut, fixing some of the issues the director had with them film.

Tagline: "Where fiction becomes a nightmare reality." Actor Robert Englund stars in Ben Samuels' horror thriller, Kantemir. This title has recently completed and the film has been shown at Cannes, this month. Active Entertainment is representing this mysterious title. And, a few story details are now available. Kantemir follows a group of actors. They are drawn to a stage production in New England, but events do not go as planned. The actors are forced into roles that none could have imagined and a world that plays with a nightmarish reality. The first poster for Kantemir is here. The graphic shows Englund's face with a foreboding home in the background. The poster has a very Gothic look. Fans of horror or of Englund can view a few early stills from the film, at director Ben Samuels' website, below. Director: Ben Samuels. Writers: Mark Garbett and Ralph Glenn Howard. Cast: Robert Englund,...

Originally released back in 2009, Midnight Movie was a cult hit amongst horror fans, gaining praise for its cool killer and 80s slasher stylings. Jump forward to 2011 and Bigfoot Entertainment gave director Jack Messitt a chance to go back and revisit the film, producing the flick he originally wanted, with newly shot scenes, restored footage from the original shoot, new VFX and new score composed just for this iteration of the movie which was dubbed Midnight Movie: The Killer Cut.
Jump forward again to the beginning of this year and director Messitt dropped me an email asking if I’d like to take a look at the new cut of the film, and being a fan of...

Jack Messitt's Midnight Movie is making it's debut on Blu-Ray today and to celebrate we've been provided with an exclusive clip from the movie. (One that the director cites as one of his favorite kills in the flick!) The Blu-Ray FX featurette shows this particular scene without the added electric bolts so you can really see the great make-up effects work executed by Lunar Effects. In Midnight Movie , a midnight showing of an early 1970's horror movie turns to chaos when the Killer from the movie comes out of the film to attack those in the theater. Directed by Messitt from a script co-written with Mark Garbett, Midnight Movie stars Daniel Bonjour, Michael Swan, Arthur Roberts, Dinora Walcott, Brea Grant, Rebekah Brandes, Ashley Black, Michael Schwartz, Kathryn Aagesen and...

Nice one Jack, Midnight Movie was an unexpected treat and great entertainment. Part modern grindhouse and part supernatural deconstructionist tongue in cheek postmodernist thingy, think Arnie’s Last Action Hero but way more Slasher. I like films like this because in addition to being loads of fun, they also remind me how the media of film, television and internet have blurred fact and fiction to the point where many people can’t even tell the difference. These medias do that conjuring trick without even the help of the supernatural. Do we see our lives on screen or is it the other way around? But I digress.
Ted Radford, star of 1970s gore movies, has been locked up for murder in a psychiatric hospital for forty years. Rather unwisely, his psychiatrist decides...

Sometimes, all you need is a solid little low-budget horror film that isn’t desperately trying to break ground; it just delivers the goods with solid craft and a sense of what it’s doing. Among the countless slasher films coming out of the independent film scene these days, Midnight Movie stands out partially by not straining to outdo its contemporaries in the gore/torture department, or to emulate its forebears from the ’70s.
Indeed, the vintage film-within-the-film that causes all the trouble in Midnight Movie seems a bit erratically conceived. The square, black-and-white shooting style feels straight out of the ’60s, while the subject matter is directly inspired by the grisly drive-in fare of the following decade: A Scooby Doo-esque van full of youths breaks down in a rural area, with the kids seeking help at a nearby house where they’re slain one by one. This little opus,...

Hey! It’s Sam. Back here at the (now warmer) Fango offices.
Every couple of days, Tony will walk over to where I sit and ask me if I’d like to check out some stuff I haven’t seen. As rad as it is, it also reminds me of my super bad habit of letting movies I haven’t seen pile up on the desk in my room. So aside from me just ranting, this blog is also pushing me to actually get to these things instead of fall asleep watching True Blood, which I can’t figure out why I’m attempting to keep up with. I do the same thing with Entourage. They aren’t that good, but I watch it anyway; it’s so illogical, and slightly frustrating. Back to the point, the first DVD I popped in was called Midnight Movie, a (sorta) nice little slasher.
