Award-winning writer/director Meredith Berg brings cathartic emotion and a touch of humor to genre fare laced with political undertones. Her script for the film "Dementia" was hailed by critics upon its theatrical release as "far from a conventional shocker," a "genuinely painful movie about the dead weight of the past," that "refuses to cut clear lines between good and evil and offers many subtle twists."
Berg started in theatre as an actor and playwright. She directed Shakespeare's "Julius Caesar" Off-Broadway for the York Shakespeare Company. She is also a comic-book editor, with credits in graphic novels including "Cowboys and Aliens," upon which the film directed by Jon Favreau starring Harrison Ford, Olivia Wilde and Daniel Craig is based.
Berg has written features for MarVista, Silver Pictures and The Squid Farm, and co-created, wrote and directed episodes of the action-comedy YouTube series "Lana Steele," starring Lilly Singh, which has over 12 million views. She graduated from the prestigious AFI's Directing Workshop for Women, which selects 8 women a year from thousands of applications. Her subsequent short film "Void" debuted at Screamfest and won multiple festival awards.
Most recently, her script "Judith" was a quarter-finalist for the Slamdance Screenplay Competition and she has been selected by AFI and Disney/Fox Studios as an "up-and-coming genre filmmaker to watch."
