Spoiler Alert! This post contains details from the second season of Netflix’s The Diplomat.
In The Diplomat, David Gyasi plays Foreign Secretary Austin Dennison who, as much as he holds an allegiance to his country, values his moral compass above all else. That is, until Season 2, when things start to become much less black and white.
He and Kate Wyler (Keri Russell) seemed to have been forming a quick alliance in Season 1, but that gets tested when Kate starts to make decisions without him and keep certain information from him in her quest to uncover the truth about what happened to that British aircraft carrier — and the car bomb that nearly killed her husband.
After Kate’s miscalculation nearly gets Margaret Roylin killed (and Dennison witnesses the Prime Minister nearly commit murder as a result of sad miscalculation), the Foreign Secretary is ready to switch sides, realigning with Prime...

So, firstly the title is a bit misleading as Netflix had renewed the Keri Russell-led political thriller comedy-drama series for Season 3 twenty days before Season 2 came out.
Despite The Diplomat Season 2’s shorter runtime compared to its first season, the streaming giant seems to have immense faith in the series as they renewed the series nearly weeks before the second season was supposed to come out and now we know why. The way Season 2 ends it opens up a lot more possibilities to where the series could go next as Kate Wyler grapples with new and dangerous world she is now in.

Note: The following story contains spoilers from “The Diplomat” Season 2 finale.
Just as Keri Russell’s Kate Wyler was ready to sound the alarms bells for British corruption, the politician plotting in “The Diplomat” Season 2 took a sharp turn.
The Netflix series finds Kate and her team collecting incriminating evidence against British Prime Minister Nicol Trowbridge (Rory Kinnear) to prove that he was behind the attack on British aircraft carrier, the Hms Courageous. But their investigation takes a turn when Trowbridge’s former adviser, Margaret Roylin (Celia Imrie), tells Kate that Trowbridge was not involved in the attack, and that she hired Russian mercenary Roman Lenkov to stage an attack that would create outrage, not harm. As we know, it didn’t go to plan and resulted in the death of 40 Royal Navy personnel.

After “The Diplomat” established the complex marriage between Keri Russell’s Kate and Rufus Sewell’s Hal, Season 2 digs into how the couple’s dynamic shifts after tragedy strikes.
“What we’re looking at is what happens after a trauma, what happens after a tragedy … the daily irritations and power struggles that happen that can be blown away in this kind of incident,” creator Debora Cahn told TheWrap. “It blows out all of the smoke of the mundane of a relationship, and suddenly, you’re dealing with the real heart of it.”
While Kate and Hal were inching towards a divorce by the onset of the Season 1 finale, the finale delivered an explosion in its final moments that left Hal’s fate hanging in the balance. Season 2 picks up just afterwards, with Kate dropping everything to tend to Hal, whose...

The Diplomat season 2 is officially done filming, according to star Nana Mensah. And, there's even more good news!
Mensah told TV Line that filming wrapped in the UK. She also shared that season 2 should be released on Netflix later this year. It's not the first time that we've heard the new season is going to premiere this year, so that's a great sign for fans who are eagerly awaiting the premiere of season 2 of the Netflix original series starring Keri Russell, Rufus Sewell, and David Gyasi.
Mensah also told TV Line that season 2 is “even better, more dynamic, more everything. The tensions have mounted in a way that is really propulsive and exciting.”
So, we don't know when production on The Diplomat season 2 actually wrapped, but it was still in production as late as this spring.

Keri Russell takes on the perfect post-The Americans acting job in Netflix’s slick new political thriller The Diplomat, which also stars Rufus Sewell as her on-screen husband, Hal Wyler. The marriage between Hal and Kate (Russell) is just one of many pivotal relationships in this talk-heavy drama that keeps you hooked and guessing from start to finish.
The Diplomat season 1 recap
Though The Diplomat is primarily a show about talking and strategizing, similar to The West Wing in many ways, it’s also entirely engrossing, and all of the performances are top-notch. Russell plays a career diplomat who must juggle a new high-profile job amid an international crisis while potentially being groomed for an even more notable position.

Few shows in recent memory have as good a handle on what they are as The Diplomat. That’s particularly impressive when you consider that the series — starring Keri Russell as Kate Wyler, a veteran State Department operative thrust into the job of America’s ambassador to Great Britain, in what is secretly an audition to replace the sitting vice-president — is often trying to be multiple shows at once: a knotty political drama, a screwball romance,...

Spoiler Alert! This post contains major plot details from Season 2 of Netflix’s The Diplomat.
Foreign tensions escalate even further in Season 2 of The Diplomat as Kate Wyler (Keri Russell) continues investigating the bombing of a British aircraft carrier in the Persian Gulf.
The breakneck six-episode season picks up right where things left off in Season 1, plunging viewers into the panic that broke out after a car bomb exploded in the heart of London, killing Parliament member Merritt Grove and leaving Kate’s husband Hal (Rufus Sewell) as well as her deputy chief of mission Stuart Hayford (Ato Essandoh) severely injured.
Kate and British Foreign Secretary Austin Dennison (David Gyasi) had begun to suspect that Prime Minister Nicol Trowbridge (Rory Kinnear) was behind both attacks, the first in an effort to quell Scotland’s independence movement and the second to silence Grove. However, as they dig deeper, it turns out...

The Diplomat season 2 finale is a game-changing episode for the series! I truly can’t believe everything that happened in this episode, and now, I can’t wait to see what creator Debora Cahn and the team have planned in The Diplomat season 3.

Vice President Grace Penn (Allison Janney) and the Americans are actually responsible for the attack on the Hms Courageous and for killing the Scottish independence movement.
Hal also reveals that the President doesn’t know what Grace did. Hal tries to slow down Kate. She wants to blow this up and make it a big deal, but Hal doesn’t want her to.

The Diplomat season 2 episode, “Our Lady of Immaculate Deception,” begins immediately where the fourth episode ended.
In Scotland, Margaret Roylin (Celia Imrie) revealed to Prime Minister Nicol Trowbridge (Rory Kinnear) that it was actually her who hired Roman Lenkov to create a conflict and stop the Scottish secession movement, but the false flag operation went wrong.
Instead of hearing her out and listening to her reasoning, Trowbridge lost his mind and strangled Roylin. She falls to the ground and hits her head as the CIA agents who planned the operation rush in to pull Trowbridge off of her.
No, Trowbridge doesn’t kill Margaret Roylin
Thankfully, for the sake of the story, Trowbridge doesn’t kill Roylin. She’s injured badly, but she’s not dead. Not yet, anyway. She’s being treated for her wounds when the episode begins.
Kate Wyler (Keri Russell) leaves the room and goes back to the party.

The Diplomat season 2 is getting so good! After two great episodes, the third episode might be the best of the season so far.
The Diplomat season 2 episode 3, “The Ides of March,” begins with a news report of Prime Minister Trowbridge (Rory Kinnear) announcing to the world that Roman Lenkov, who was responsible for the attack on the aircraft carrier, was killed by special forces. It was not a firefight, though. It was an assassination.
We immediately see Ambassador Kate Wyler (Keri Russell) and CIA Station Chief Eidra Park (Ali Ahn) talking about the killing of Lenkov in front of Stuart. Margaret Roylin (Celia Imrie) told Kate and Eidra this would happen, and it did. Now, Stuart Heyford (Eto Assandoh) and Kate would like to turn her over to law enforcement after the main witness (Lenkov) was killed. Eidra won’t do it, though. She wants to learn more about what Roylin is hiding.

After calling Kate and the Americans at the end of episode 1, Margaret Roylin (Celia Imrie) is there with Eidra Park (Ali Ahn). She’s making an appearance in public for the first time since the bombing happened. As it appears, the CIA has made it look like many people look like Roylin in attendance to cause a distraction. We don’t know why exactly, but it’s to keep her away from Trowbridge’s men and the British government.
As we learn, they want people to stop looking for Roylin. She’s at the funeral, so she’s not missing, of course.

The Diplomat season 2 begins immediately after the bombing at the end of the season 1 finale.

Lord Of The Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2 has been released in full on Prime Video.
The Season 1 finale unmasked Sauron. If you remember anything beyond that, congratulations. If you’re like me before a chaotic rewatch that relied heavily on the fast-forward key: Sauron tricked Elven smith Celebrimbor into creating the first three Rings of Power; an army from idyllic Númenor sailed to Middle Earth and lost a battle to defend the Southlands, which was seized by Orcs; a halfling discovered a mysterious man known only as “The Stranger”; the Dwarves discovered the mystical ore mithril.
Season 2 begins shortly after these events. The three Elven rings create conflict among the Elves. Meanwhile, Sauron returns to Celebrimbor with plans to make more rings. Political unrest stirs as Númenorians mourn their losses from their battle in Middle Earth. The survivors of the battle navigate the ravaged lands.

The Diplomat finds Kate Wyler (Keri Russell) navigating complex diplomatic relations with power players from all over the world. In a fast-paced job handling sensitive issues that can take down entire countries, she’s often whisked away to scenic locations throughout the UK and abroad at the drop of a hat.
Whether it’s to attend a secret meeting with a Russian ambassador at the Foreign Office in London, go toe-to-toe with Prime Minister Nicol Trowbridge (Rory Kinnear) at Chevening House in Kent, or chat with the French minister of the interior Brielle Fournier (Micky Sébastian) in Paris, the ambassador is always on the move.

“The Diplomat” Season 2 is the bastard lovechild of “The West Wing,” Armando Iannucci’s British political satires and his American “Veep.” Whip-smart, psychologically insightful and sexy without sleaze, the series created by Debora Cahn is only getting better as it speeds into its second lap on Netflix this Halloween. The streamer has already greenlit a third season, signaling an awareness of the show’s quality and that audiences are tuning in.

As it turns out, the British prime minister didn’t have any blood on his hands … until now. When Nicol Trowbridge (Rory Kinnear) learns his former advisor Margaret “Meg” Roylin (Celia Imrie) is the one who ordered the attack on the British carrier Hms Courageous, he lunges for her neck in anger. She falls back in her chair, head bleeding.
The fallout from learning that Trowbridge didn’t order the bombing sets off a fresh round of drama as alliances and understandings between all the key players shift.
American ambassador to the UK Kate Wyler (Keri Russell) has always been about conscientiously serving the people, but she’s quickly learning there are serious exceptions when it comes to dealing with nuclear powers. She’s aware that Roylin is “Our Lady of Immaculate Deception,” as Trowbridge puts it, but there may be some other deceptive people among them. The intel Hal...

Despite taking place on the Fourth of July, the vibes in The Diplomatfeel much more like the title of The Diplomat Season 2, Episode 3: “The Ides of the March.” On that date in 44 Bce, Roman dictator Julius Caesar was assassinated by a group of senators in order to preserve the republic — and things are trending the same way here in the British government.
Members of British Prime Minister Nicol Trowbridge’s (Rory Kinnear) own government, led by British foreign secretary, Austin Dennison (David Gyasi), believe that Trowbridge himself ordered the execution of Russian mercenary Roman Lenkov (Sam Douglas), as well as the London car explosion and attack on the Hms Courageous, and are preparing to vote him out. But things don’t go exactly as planned, especially when there’s a lavish American Fourth of July party as the backdrop.

Editor’s note: Spoilers for Season 1 of “The Diplomat.”
Viewers would be forgiven for not remembering all the details from the explosive (literally!) Season 1 finale of “The Diplomat.”
A lot happened in the eight-episode first season — even before the fire-y final moments that found Kate’s (Keri Russell) husband Hal (Rufus Sewell) possibly blown up by a car bomb. At one point, even more international shit was going to go down.
“Because I’m an idiot, I believed that in the first season, the entire plot that is Season 1 and Season 2 would fit into Season 1,” creator Debora Cahn told IndieWire. “We then got to Episode 7, and I started writing 7, and I was like, ‘This is too much plot. This is stupid.'”
Needless to say, the team hit the ground running in Season 2, which picks up immediately after the explosion. In the Season 1 finale, Kate, the titular U.S. diplomat to the U.

Keri Russell has a new co-star in The Diplomat Season 2 and was a little “nervous” about her joining the cast.
Allison Janney was cast in the new season of the Netflix drama, which made Russell a little nervous because she is a fan of her.
“Just because she’s awesome and so good,” Russell told People about her co-star. “I love her. There’s a scene she does in Primary Colors – that movie is so good – where she does this physical comedy fall up the stairs. So I think I was a little nervous, but she’s everything you want her to be. She’s gracious and funny and smart and cool.”

The call is coming from inside the house in “The Diplomat” Season 2 — and Keri Russell’s U.S. Ambassador Kate Wyler is calling out corruption as she sees it.
Picking up after the dramatic explosion that left both Kate’s husband Hal (Rufus Sewell) and MP Merritt Grove (Simon Chandler) in danger, the trailer for the second season sees Kate ensure Hal’s safety before acknowledging her suspicions about the British government.
“The call is coming from inside the house, and three Americans just got blown up inside the house,” Kate tells her team, pointing to Prime Minister Nicol Trowbridge (Rory Kinnear), who claims the explosion was a second Russian attack.
“The last time we surveilled one of these, it almost ended NATO,” Ali Ahn’s Eidra tells Kate, who responds, “Everything is pointing to him.”

The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power Showrunners Debunk Popular "Dark Wizard" Theory - Spoilers
The second season of Prime Video's The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power came to an end this week, and the finale seemed to leave little doubt as to the identity of the "Dark Wizard" played by Game of Thrones alum Ciarán Hinds.
However, all may not be as it seems when it comes to this mysterious and very powerful character.
We know that this blatantly evil sorcerer is an "Istar," and it was generally assumed that he must be Sarauman. Granted, it would be a pretty major change to the lore if this character "broke bad" prior to the events of Tolkien's trilogy, but so would the introduction of another Istari who was never mentioned in the saga at all.
This led to speculation that Hinds might be playing either Alatar or Pallando, the "Blue Wizards" who are never really discussed in any great detail in The Lord of the Rings...

A spotting session is a common practice in film and TV scoring that sets a composer up to write the music for a given project, where the showrunners/filmmakers watch cuts and figure out where they want music and discuss what they want that music to do. But talking about music in the abstract can, in the words of composer Bear McCreary, be a little bit like dancing about architecture. Even when you’re trained in music theory, part of what’s beautiful about it is you’re never quite going to build the idea out of words themselves.
“The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” concluded its second season with Sauron (Charlie Vickers) holding sway over Eregion — if not over the apparent elven ability to fall off of tall cliffs and survive. None of the twists and turns...

This article contains a massive spoiler for "The Rings of Power" season 2. Proceed with caution, and watch the finale first if you don't want The Stranger's identity spoiled!
Well, folks, the cat's out of the bag. After 16 episodes and two full seasons, the fading moments of "The Rings of Power" season 2 finale finally delivered the one word we've been itching to hear for endless hours of Middle-earth viewing: Gandalf. Yes, Daniel Weyman's mysterious and confused Istar is the one and only Grey Wizard. As the finale wraps up its various storylines and sets the stage for a likely third season to come, one of the last things we get is a scene between Tom Bombadil (Rory Kinnear) and The Stranger. As the sequence draws to a close, Bombadil coaxes the utterance of the inevitable from his companion, and the Wizard in training takes a deep breath and says that his name is "Gandalf.

Granted, you probably guessed this one. But The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power had a major reveal about The Stranger in its season two finale — along with a climatic Sauron-Galadriel fight, the climax of Sauron’s season-long seduction and betrayal of Celebrimbor, the Balrog being unleashed in Khazad-dûm, and more.

I was relieved that you didn’t stick with “Grand Elf” because I was thinking, “Oh, is this going to be some weird legally differentiated Kirkland version of Gandalf?” Was this a character you had rights to all along?...

It took two seasons and as many years but “Rings of Power” fans finally know who The Stranger (Daniel Weyman) really is – and it’s exactly who you think.
The Stranger found his name after coming face-to-face with the Dark Wizard (Ciaran Hinds) of Rhǔn at the Storers home. The wizard told The Stranger they were old friends and they came to Middle-earth together to face Sauron. The difference is that the Dark Wizard wants to rule in Sauron’s place.
The Stranger refuses and the Dark Wizard tries to bring the canyon down on the Storers. The Stranger manages to hold the collapse at bay until everyone is free. As morning comes, the Storers have decided to go on the move if Nori (Markella Kavanagh) and Poppy (Megan Richards) lead them.
As the group is leaving, they individually thank him as “grand elf.” Nori explains it’s probably because...
