Onoufrios Dovletis
- Actor
Onoufrios Dovlétis, with a 5,000-year-old name originating from Egypt, was born in Thessaloniki, Greece, a descendant of refugees who survived the Greek Genocide carried out by the Ottoman Empire in WWI.
From his early years, he was continuously cast in school plays and was encouraged to pursue acting. As a child, he discovered his love for writing and was determined to follow his passion for the written word. As an adult, Onoufrios is a published poet with two award-winning collections.
The teenage years, beset by problems, presented the dilemma of choosing between psychology and archaeology for his studies. Opting out of the latter, he also put acting on hold and worked as a translator until returning to the stage with an acting school in 2014.
An avid history buff and a licensed tour guide in Athens. He also hosts two history podcasts in Greek and English ('Not another Greek history podcast').
Onoufrios loves challenges, so he allowed himself a whole three weeks to land an agent in LA, which... he did. Not having a proper visa to remain in Los Angeles proved to limit his reach, though.
Undeterred, he pushed to improve his professional training, attending acting schools in New York (Meisner Technique in The Acting Studio), London (City Lit) and Athens (Petras Acting School).
Onoufrios starred in short films in the UK and Greece, such as Nightgrind, or in the high-profile period drama series Kokkino Potami, where directors just loved to see him kill, rape, and shout at people (pretty much as a villain) whereas on stage he has played from Romeo to God.
In New York, he played in the off-Broadway comedy 'A Sketch of New York' and in several plays in Athens such as comedies, ancient tragedies, and contemporary drama such as Harold Pinter's 'Betrayal'. He's also been a member of an improv Playback group.
Trying out new things and experiencing what life has to offer, is Onoufrios' thing, so you can find him playing his bouzouki or enjoying activities like ballet, martial arts, and parkour. His extraordinary love for music has him creating and sharing playlists on Spotify.
Onoufrios is fluent in English (American accent), Spanish, and Italian, with a good level of German, and a basic knowledge of Arabic, French, Russian, and Turkish.
