The International Film Festival of South Asia (Iffsa) Toronto 2024 will honor “Halo” and “Fire” star Shabana Azmi‘s five-decade career during its 13th edition, running Oct. 10-20. The festival’s tribute program includes a screening of Shyam Benegal’s “Mandi,” a masterclass, and a musical celebration titled “Shab-e-Sur.”

The festival took place March 27-31 in Chandigarh, northern India. A three-day phone filmmaking workshop hosted by Chitkara International School and produced by Cinevesture saw students from five schools participating with Ritisha Sinha’s film “Unveiled” from Mount Carmel School winning an award.

Popular Bollywood actor Boman Irani is making his directorial debut with “The Mehta Boys.”

Irani starred in 2002 Locarno title “Let’s Talk” and shot to Bollywood fame with his roles in “Munna Bhai M.B.B.S.” (2003) and “Main Hoon Na” (2004). He also had significant roles in “Khosla Ka Ghosla” and “Don” (both 2006) and “3 Idiots” (2009). Irani has more than 100 acting credits with his most recent film release “Dunki” being one of the top 10 Indian hits of 2023.

Irani delivered the opening fireside chat of the inaugural Cinevesture International Film Festival and market in Chandigarh, northern India, on Thursday, in conversation with Vaibhav Munjal, founder of Chalchitra Talks. In fact I didn’t speak at all. And I needed some kind of outlet. One day as a kid I was on stage and my mom was sitting in the audience, and she was smiling at me from somewhere in the corner.”
