Jan Budar
- Actor
- Writer
- Composer
Jan Budar plays his roles with great commitment. He has portrayed a wide range of characters in many films and TV shows during his career. He loves "method acting", because he was deeply inspired by great actors like Daniel Day Lewis, Matthew McConaughey, Dustin Hoffman, Viggo Mortensen and by many others. Jan is a hard worker who loves to collaborate with the best. He inspires and loves to be inspired. He learns something new every day. In his work and in his life, he always goes for the experience and not for the result.
Jan was born in Frydlant, a short distance from the city of Liberec.[1] He graduated from Brno's Janacek Academy of Music and Performing Arts (JAMU) in 2000.[2] He started his career in Brno under the tutelage of Vladimír Moravek, one of the most acclaimed Czech theatre directors. This creative partnership culminated in their first film, Boredom in Brno. Budar also co-authored the script and composed the music. The comedy was awarded five Czech Lions in 2003, including Best Male Actor for Jan Budar's performance. This success led to roles in such films as Marek Najbrt's debut Champions and Jan Hrebejk's recent Up and down, the Czech entry for the Academy Awards, which won the top awards at the Czech Lions Awards 2005. The team of Moravek and Budar created their second film, Hrubes and Mares best friends: come rain or shine. Besides acting, writing, composing and singing, Budar also makes his own short films, documentaries and video clips. In March 2005, Budar won the Czech Lion award for "Best Supporting Actor" in Champions. In February 2005, Budar was sent to Berlin as a shooting star to represent Czech cinematography at the Berlinale Film Festival 2005.
