Was named after the fictional television character of Bart Maverick from the series "Maverick" (1957) starring James Garner. Bart's brother was named Brett (after "Bret Maverick" played by James Garner) except the spelling is different.
When Bart was in high school, he was spotted by a talent scout at an audition in Chicago to read with John Hughes (in Chicago) for the role of "The Geek" in film "The Breakfast Club". The role was eventually given to Anthony Michael Hall.
