Jamila Pomeroy is a Kenyan-Canadian WGC screenwriter, internationally-published writer/journalist, director and producer with experience spanning print, new media and film. Her writing across all mediums is known to be impact-driven, with immersive worlds that unpack contemporary social issues. Specifically, her work often champions historically underrepresented people and narratives, while generating both accessible, comedic and intellectually-charged storylines.
Jamila's Sunflower Lemonade dramedy pilot script was recently selected for WGC's Script of the Month program; and earlier this year, Jamila was selected to be a part of the Netflix X Banff World Diversity of Voices cohort. She was also selected for the 2023 Warner Brothers X Black Women Film Dream Big Writer/Director Retreat, where she completed her first Rom-Com feature script, and worked with Emmy-Nominated Showrunner and 12-times-winning Canadian Screen Awards screenwriter, Marsha Greene, as her mentor.
Her debut documentary feature, Union Street, has been credited as the top "10 VIFF films to see" by outlets like the Province, Vancouver Sun and Vancouver magazine. Jamila is presently in pre-production for her second feature-length documentary, Muzizi: Food Stories of the African Diaspora; which aims to celebrate the mothers, aunties and elders who've kept ancestral teachings alive through food.
Today, she has contributed to networks, media companies and publications like CBC, BBC, BBC Storyworks, Telus Optik TV, Network Entertainment, Quibi, Showtime, Meta4films, Snap Animation, Red Bull Media, Hypebae & Hypebeast, Montecristo Magazine, Nuvo, Chatelaine, The Georgia Straight and many more.
