Colin Firth is a man on a mission in the trailer for Peacock limited drama series “Lockerbie: A Search for Truth.” The man is Dr. Jim Swire; the mission is the truth.

Colin Firth will headline Lockerbie, a Sky drama series about the real-life airline tragedy that occurred in 1988. Here’s the trailer.
Rightly or wrongly, the British television industry often uses true life tragedies as the basis for drama. As proven with Gwyneth Hughes’ brilliant Mr Bates And The Post Office, such dramas, when done right, can provoke discussion on a national scale.

The synopsis for the five-part series, from Sky itself, reads as follows:

Hollywood stardom is a cycle, with It Boys and Girls emerging every couple of years and going through periods of ubiquity before they either make it to mega-stardom or decide to take a different path. While that initial push by producers and studios of "Hey, world, here's your new leading actor!" can be distasteful or off-putting to audiences who haven't quite embraced an up-and-coming actor yet, it can also leave the projects these ingenues make during this period high and dry, the films themselves treated like a byproduct of a separate agenda. Granted, some of these films starring not-quite stars as the leads can feel awkward in retrospect, yet some look like hidden gems in hindsight. Or, if not quite gems, then at least decent entertainment that shouldn't have been lost in the shuffle.

What’s going on with Netflix‘s “The Abandons“? On paper, the Western series has the potential to be a big hit for the streamer: an all-star cast featuring Lena Headey and Gillian Anderson; a sprawling Western epic in a similar vein to “Yellowstone“; and “Sons Of Anarchy” alum Kurt Sutter helming the project. But as of this week, Deadline reports Sutter is off “The Abandons” with one episode left to film in Calgary, with executive producers Otto Bathurst and Rob Askins overseeing the rest of filming.

Shocking news from Netflix today, as controversial showrunner Kurt Sutter has abruptly departed his new series The Abandons.
The show is reportedly in the final weeks of production on its first season.
Perhaps Kurt took the title a bit too literally?
According to a report from Deadline, the departure “is believed to stem from creative differences over the direction of the big-scale production as it is wrapping filming and headed into post.” (Photo by Rich Polk/Getty Images for IMDb)
Sutter, who’s best known for his work on Sons of Anarchy, is famous for his commitment to his singular artistic vision.
That makes him a bit of an awkward fit at Netflix, where execs have a reputation for micromanaging.
Today’s Deadline report claims that Sutter clashed with his streaming bosses over the running time of The Abandons’ pilot.
Sutter’s cut of the episode allegedly clocked in at one hour and forty minutes.

If you are looking forward to Kurt Sutter's upcoming Netflix original Western drama series The Abandons, the latest update on the series probably isn't what you want to hear. Sutter has officially stepped down as executive producer and showrunner on the series mere weeks before the first season was set to wrap filming. No one saw that coming!
According to a report from Deadline, the reason behind Sutter's sudden departure from The Abandons has to do with "creative differences" regarding the direction of the series. As the outlet explains, Netflix wasn't on board with a cut of the seven-episode series' first episode, which clocked in with a 100-minute runtime.
Following the discovery of the movie-length pilot episode, the plan moving forward was to split the first episode into two episodes. That called for the creation of a newly written cliffhanger and additional scenes to allow both episodes to stand on their own.

Kurt Sutter has left his new Netflix show, according to multiple media reports. The showrunner best known for creating “Sons of Anarchy” departed “The Abandons” three weeks before production was scheduled to wrap in Calgary.
The upcoming Western drama stars Lena Headey and Gillian Anderson. Its executive producer and director Otto Bathurst as well as its co-exec producer Rob Askins will oversee the rest of the shoot. No new showrunner has been named. It’s been reported that the departure came down to creative differences.
TheWrap reached out to Netflix and representatives for Sutter for comment.
Set in the 1850s, “The Abandons” follows Fiona Nolan (Headey), a devout Irish woman who is incapable of conceiving a child. Believing in a higher purpose, she tries to build a family by adopting four orphans. But it isn’t long before she begins to face hardship after European aristocrats claim possession of her new home in Oregon.

Today, Netflix announced the start of production in Calgary on Season 1 of The Abandons, a pulse-pounding action drama set in the West by Kurt Sutter via his SutterInk banner.
“I am fascinated by the metamorphosis of good into evil. What must transpire to drive the morally sound to become the dangerously corrupt,” said Sutter. “The Abandons explores those complex compromises through the most powerful human instinct — the love and protection of mothers.”
As a group of diverse, outlier families pursue their Manifest Destiny in 1850s Oregon, a corrupt force of wealth and power, coveting their land, tries to force them out. These abandoned souls, the kind of lost souls living on the fringe of society, unite their tribes to form a family and fight back.

Plot: In season two, Master Chief John-117 leads his team of elite Spartans against the alien threat known as the Covenant. In the wake of a shocking event on a desolate planet, John cannot shake the feeling that his war is about to change and risks everything to prove what no one else will believe – that the Covenant are preparing to attack humanity’s greatest stronghold. With the galaxy on the brink, John embarks on a journey to find the key to humankind’s salvation, or its extinction — the Halo.
Review: Halo debuted in 2022 with fifteen years of development baggage heaped on top of it. With sky-high expectations for the series, anything less than a seismic shift in video game adaptations was bound to fail. Halo debuted with a muted response that found the Game of Thrones-esque intrigue and conspiracies distracting from what made the game one of the biggest franchises in history.

Colin Firth will headline Lockerbie, a Sky drama about the real-life tragedy. Here are some details about the production…
Rightly or wrongly, the British television industry often uses true life tragedies as the basis for drama. As proven with Gwyneth Hughes’ brilliant Mr Bates And The Post Office, such dramas, when done right, can provoke discussion on a national scale.
The latest true-life tragedy to make its way to the screen is Lockerbie, which will chronicle the aftermath of the horrific events of the 21st December 1988, when a bomb caused Pam Am Flight 103 to crash over the Scottish town, killing 270 people.
Scottish playwright David Harrower, whose film Una, based on his play Blackbird, is well worth seeking out, will act as lead writer, with Maryam Hamidi writing an episode. They adapted their scripts from the book The Lockerbie Bombing: A Father’s Search For Justice, which Swire co-wrote with Peter Biddulph.

After many years in development hell, a live-action adaptation of the Halo video game franchise finally made its way out into the world as a Paramount+ streaming series back in 2022, with the first episode of the show quickly becoming Paramount+’s most-watched premiere. But while the TV series is returning for a second season, which is scheduled to begin streaming on February 8th, the first season wasn’t met with overwhelming positivity, as many fans of the video game source material were disappointed by some of the choices made for the adaptation. Not even star Pablo Schreiber, who plays the character Master Chief on the show, was entirely happy with that first season. Speaking with SFX Magazine, Schreiber revealed there was even one element that he felt was a huge mistake: the romantic storyline with Master Chief and Makee (Charlie Murphy), which even included a sex scene.

Peaky Blinders was conjured out of stories its creator Steven Knight was told as a child. Larger-than-life images from his parents’ Birmingham families had been burnt onto his nine-year-old mind. A mountain of silver coins piled on a table in a shabby terraced house. Bare-knuckle boxers bound at the wrists and pushed into the canal for losing a fight. Gypsy horse fairs. Barefoot children running messages for illegal bookmakers. A pub called The Chain whose only drinkers were factory women who’d beat any man who dared enter. And immaculately dressed gang members who’d swapped the mud of their WWI uniforms for crisp creases and sharp tailoring. It was all magic and glamour, to the mind of a child.
That was how Peaky Blinders chose to present the past on screen – as somewhere heightened, glamorous and now. It wanted to evoke in its viewer the awe of a kid marvelling at unforgettable things.
