Another year of Grammy nominations, another year of K-pop fans having to cope with the fact that none of their favorite performers made it in.
Solo artists Jung Kook, Rm, and Jimin were all eligible to be nominated at the 2025 Grammys, but they were ignored when the noms were announced on Friday, Nov. 8 by the Recording Academy — see the full list. So why isn’t K-pop music taken more seriously at the Grammys?
Jimin and Jung Kook both broke streaming records with their singles “Like Crazy” and “Seven,” respectively, and Rm was added to many respectable “best of” lists at music publications for his album “Right Place, Wrong Person.” South Korean artists are clearly here to stay, so perhaps it’s just a matter of opening up the eyes (and the ears) of the Recording Academy members by introducing them to new styles of music they may not have grown up with.

Charli Xcx is really committing to proving the “360” lyric “I’m everywhere, I’m so Julia” to be the truest statement she’s ever made. She was everywhere on tour, including a sold-out stop at Madison Square Garden. She also played a DJ set in front of an art installation for her remix album at Storm King Art Center in Orange County, New York. And on Nov. 16, the singer and songwriter will bring her Brat agenda to 30 Rock as she doubles as both host and musical guest on Saturday Night Live.

Charli Xcx and Kesha have dropped a surprise new remix of the Brat bonus track “Spring Breakers.” Stream the new version of the song below.
Even before the release of Brat in June, a truck displaying “Kesha” on top of a very specific green background seemed to tease that the pop star would feature on the new Charli release. Months before Charli Xcx even released Brat, a video of a truck displaying the name “Kesha” on a chartreuse background went viral online. Brat and It’s the Same But There’s Three More Songs So It’s Not came out, and still nothing. And then came Brat and It’s Completely Different but Also Still Brat on Friday, and no Kesha song was on the track list.

More than 100 sculptures are scattered across the 500-acre grounds of Storm King Art Center in New York’s Hudson Valley: There’s Magdalena Abakanowicz’s Sarcophagi in Glass Houses, a piece from 1989 that draws parallels between turbine engines and the human body; Alice Aycock’s Three-Fold Manifestation II stands at 29 feet, depicting a seemingly endless spiral. In an age when remix packages often include little more than sped-up and slowed-down versions of songs tailor-made for TikTok, Charli Xcx’s Brat and It’s Completely Different but Also Still Brat takes a more holistic approach. The album serves as an extension of Charli’s project as an artist, and rather than commission a bunch of DJs to reinterpret the songs, they’re produced chiefly by Brat’s original creators.

Charli Xcx’s lime green Brat cover artwork has played a key part in making the album a cultural phenomenon, but the British artist certainly didn’t plan it that way. In a recent interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, she revealed it was done for budgetary reasons because she didn’t think the project was going to be a hit.
“Where the actual first idea of doing a text cover came from was to save money,” Charli explained, “I was like, ‘This album is not going to appeal to a lot of people.'”

As a result, it made more sense to allocate money elsewhere: “I was like, ‘I think I will do a press shoot and then maybe we just save on the album cover.'”

Greene said this to former Rep. Dave Brat (R-Virginia) during an appearance on Steve Bannon’s War Room over the weekend.

Don’t worry, everyone — Brat fall is coming. British bop-maker Charli Xcx has announced a new version of her widely popular album, out on Oct. 11.
“Brat and it’s completely different but also still brat,” the musician posted to her X account Thursday, confirming link-ups with Troye Sivan on Brat tune “Talk talk” and Lorde on “Girl, so confusing.” Billie Eilish will feature on “Guess,” Robyn and Yung Lean on “360” and Addison Rae on “Von dutch.”
The album will include a second disc with the original album and its three bonus tracks.
Critically acclaimed pop album Brat has defined a genre of music for the entirety of this summer, with Kamala Harris’ team even adopting the meme-ified trend and accompanying music to appeal to younger voters in the upcoming U.S. election.

Whether Brat Summer has ended or not, the Brat girls are continuing to stay booked and busy. For Chloë Sevigny, she will soon be starring in Ryan Murphy’s “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story” and she also just celebrated the premiere of Durga Chew-Bose’s “Bonjour Tristesse” at the Toronto International Film Festival.
The latter is an adaptation of Françoise Sagan’s 1954 coming-of-age novel, showcasing the complexities of relationships among women and how they can come to wield influence over one another’s fates. Sevigny tells us that the film is “very different” from the book.
“The book is very eternal,” she told IndieWire on the red carpet for the “Bonjour Tristesse” TIFF premiere. “So most of that Lily [McInerny] is having to play. It’s her responsibility, not mine. She’s playing the stakes [laughs]. But I think we capture the essence of the book and the essence of...

Charli Xcx is celebrating the end of Brat summer — and gearing up for Sweat tour fall! On Labor Day Monday, Charli Xcx bid farewell to summer 2024, which was musically defined by her iconic, chartreuse-colored pop album.
“Goodbye forever brat summer,” Charli wrote on X.
Following Brat’s success, Rolling Stone declared that “the world had finally caught up” with the singer. Brat, which dropped on June 7, dominated the cultural conversation this summer, thanks to lyrics in songs “Von Dutch” and “360,” such as “I’m everywhere, I’m so Julia.

Maybe Matt Groening was saying “boo-urns.”
Back in the 1990s, comedy shows collaborating to make crowd-pleasing crossover episodes was all the rage. Friends and Mad About You connected their comedy universes via Phoebe’s twin sister Ursula. Steve Urkel from Family Matters crashed the Tanner household in a Full House episode. The Jeffersons appeared on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air twice — that’s double the visits of Will’s dad. While these kinds of very special episodes may not have been the most artistically inspired publicity stunts, these marketing department’s delights certainly weren’t anything worthy of shame or derision, let alone a full-scale press tour from either show’s creator as they disowned the project like it’s a nefarious failson who committed treason against the crown. That is, unless you ask Groening.

Pop stars Charli Xcx and Taylor Swift have squashed fan speculation of their feud, which is largely rooted in the lyrics of Brat song “Sympathy is a Knife.”
“People are gonna think what they want to think,” the British singer-songwriter and DJ said in a new New York Magazine cover story. “That song is about me and my feelings and my anxiety and the way my brain creates narratives and stories in my head when I feel insecure and how I don’t want to be in those situations physically when I feel self-doubt.”
Chatter about the music industry peers’ relationship can be traced back to when the “365” singer first toured with Swift in 2018 for the latter’s Reputation stadium tour. The following year, when reflecting on the experience, she told Pitchfork that it “felt like I was getting up on stage and waving to 5-year-olds.” (She apologized afterward.)

Charli Xcx has reluctantly embraced her tweet declaring Kamala Harris is “brat” becoming a phenomenon during this year’s presidential election.
In her New York magazine cover story, the pop star was asked about the divisive social media statement about the vice president. She explained that she wrote it while relaxing in the pool at her Los Angeles home, not thinking much about it as a political endorsement, but rather “something positive and lighthearted” to welcome the new presidential nominee.
However, the English singer’s approval for Harris led to her album, Brat — which had already become part of the zeitgeist this summer with the music’s “no cares” attitude, viral star-studded remixes and the eye-catching green cover art — being co-opted by Harris’ political campaign and turned into a meme. Now Harris’ “brat” status was being discussed on CNN and Fox News. Even Bill Maher weighed in, opining that Harris being “brat” sounds “like Trump.

Kamala Harris isn’t the only Democratic politician claiming Brat Summer. Barack Obama has shared his yearly summer playlist, and it includes (you guessed it) the green queen herself, Charli Xcx. Rounding out his list is a mix of modern hits and old-school classics; see Obama’s full summer playlist below.
In addition to the Brat cut “365,” the former president included Billie Eilish’s “Chihro,” Tems’ “Love Me Jeje,” Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy),” and H.E.R.’s “Process.” The Rolling Stones’ “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction,” Bob Dylan’s “Silvio,” and Sting’s “If You Love Somebody Set Them Free” introduce a healthy classic rock presence, while the Charles Mingus track “Wednesday Night Prayer Meeting” and Pharaoh Sanders’ “Love Is Everywhere” proves he still gets jazzy with it.

It’s a Brat and Billie summer! On Thursday, Charli Xcx and Billie Eilish released a remix for Charli’s song “Guess” that’s sending the internet into a frenzy.

Despite what the headlines say, Brat Summer appears to be alive and well. Charli Xcx is making sure of it, as the pop star just dropped a remix of “Guess” featuring Billie Eilish. In keeping with the theme of the song, the accompanying music video finds Charli and Billie parading around a mountain of bras and panties.
According to a press release, all of bras and underwear used in the video were donated to I Support The Girls, which collects and distributes essential items people experiencing homelessness, impoverishment or distress.

With presidential candidate Kamala Harris and even some tone-deaf Republicans co-opting the Brat aesthetic and lingo on social media, it seemed like Charli Xcx’s cultural currency had reached critical mass. A standout track from the album’s cheekily titled deluxe edition, Brat and it’s the same but there’s three more songs so it’s not, the frenetic hyperpop song (co-written by Charli and 100 gecs’s Dylan Brady) echoes Eilish’s own tongue-in-cheek ode to oral sex, “Lunch.” “You wanna guess the color of my underwear/You wanna know what I got going on down there,” Charli teases before Eilish gets in on the not-so-subtle innuendo: “Charli likes boys,...

When Kamala Harris was running for California attorney general in 2010, a young professionals group threw a campaign fundraiser at a now-defunct nightclub in Los Angeles called h.wood. Hundreds attended for a door fee of $45. “The nightclub was so packed out, she had to stand on top of a table in order to be heard,” says then event co-chair Todd Hawkins of Hawkins Mikita, a social impact group that connects Hollywood with political and philanthropic causes.
Hawkins has been active in leading various incarnations of young political organizations since 2006 when Gen44, a fundraising group that charged a $44 entry fee for such casual outings as nightclub events and basketball games was founded to support Barack Obama as the 44th president. Taking a page from bigwig Hollywood bundlers like Jeffrey Katzenberg and Haim Saban, Hawkins adopted the model of must-attend events with stars who connect with the younger demographic of Gen44. After just missing the launch of Kamala Harris‘ presidential campaign last weekend, John Oliver kicked off Sunday’s episode of Last Week Tonight by unpacking the week of Brat.
The comedian roasted Jake Tapper over his confusion around Charli Xcx‘s meme-worthy endorsement of Harris while promoting her sixth studio album Brat, which “unfortunately set off days of CNN trying to explain to its audience what the f*ck that means.”
“‘You’re just that girl who is a little messy and likes to party and maybe says some dumb things sometimes,'” Jamie Gangel quoted the Grammy Award nominee during a CNN panel, in which Tapper then asked, “So, is the idea that we’re all kinda Brat, and Vice President Harris is Brat?”
Oliver then exclaimed, “No Jake, that’s not it at all! We are not all kinda Brat, you’re either Brat or you’re not!

If Brat Summer has taught us anything, it’s that Charli Xcx is always full of surprises. This just in: She wants to make a Lou Reed record.
In a cover story with Billboard, the pop star contemplated the future of her career and what it would be like if Brat was her final album. “I don’t know,” she said. “I’m just so deep in this, I can’t see outside of Brat, but it’s funny. I kind of want to make a Lou Reed record, to be honest.
