This movie is based on a true story. It “follows Tanya Kach, who was groomed by the security guard at her middle school and held captive in his home for 10 years.”

Elizabeth Smart, who is a kidnapping survivor and advocate is the executive producer. Viewers already know her work from Abducted By My Teacher: The Elizabeth Thomas Story, as well as The Girl Who Escaped: The Kara Robinson Story. In addition to being executive producer, there will be a documentary, where Elizabeth speaks with Tanya about what happened.

In a gripping episode of “48 Hours” titled “The Monica Sementilli Affair,” viewers are plunged into the murky waters of a high-profile murder case that rocked the beauty industry. Fabio Sementilli, a well-known beauty executive, was found brutally stabbed to death by his swimming pool, sending shockwaves through his community. At 96 years old, movie producer Roger Corman described himself as "semi-retired" in a 2022 interview with Paste, noting that he still has a deal to remake "Little Shop of Horrors" for Paramount Pictures. With a career spanning over 400 movies, which helped launch the careers of filmmakers like James Cameron, Martin Scorsese, and Francis Ford Coppola, Corman has made just about every kind of genre movie under the sun -- including a video game movie starring Mark Hamill.

"Virtually Heroes" isn't a movie based on a video game, but rather a low-budget precursor to "Free Guy," starring Robert Baker and Brent Chase as two video game characters who are tired of dying over and over again. Screen Media has nabbed North American distribution rights to “Virtually Heroes,” an action comedy that was produced by Roger Corman nearly a decade ago but was left without a home.

The release of the film has been a long time coming. “Virtually Heroes” was an official selection of the 2013 Sundance Film Festival, but despite Corman’s legendary status as the Picasso of B movies, it never landed distribution. The film was directed and produced by Gj Echternkamp (“Frank and Cindy”) and stars Robert Baker (“Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull”), Brent Chase (“Shameless”), Katie Savoy (“How I Met Your Mother”) and Mark Hamill of “Star Wars” fame.

It centers on two self-aware characters in a “Call of Duty”-inspired video game as they battle endless enemies and their own existential crises. With the help of Hamill’s Yoda-like monk, they attempt to win the game and get the girl.

Exclusive: To most movie stars, having two movies dropping within seven days of each other would seem like they are plenty busy, but for Chris Pine, that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

The beginning of the 1970s marks a very decisive time in the biography of Bruce Lee, as he started to become the man we now know as one of the great icons of martial arts and cinema as a whole, with the huge commercial and critical success of “The Big Boss” (1971). The Flesh and the Fiends lives up to its name and then some. The setting is Scotland but the squalid streets and charnel houses suggest Dickens’ London at its bleakest. Everything is for sale here, the fleshy whores of the cathouses and the fiends who haunt them. On the other side of the tracks lives Robert Knox, a respected anatomist at Edinburgh University who pays for his flesh too – the bodies necessary for his livelihood are in scarce supply and grave robbers William Burke and William Hare are ready to deliver.

Venerated by his students while castigated by old guard medicos, the forward-thinking Knox is a formidable presence at the podium with only one thing to mar his handsome profile, a blind eye.

It's official. Like the passengers of the SS Minnow before them, the Lotus airlines castaways will remain stranded. As reported in February, the Wrecked TV show on TBS has been cancelled. At that time, star Zach Cregger announced the series' end on Twitter. Now the TBS cancellation has been confirmed.

A TBS single-camera comedy, Wrecked also stars Ally Maki, Asif Ali, Brian Sacca, Brooke Dillman, Jessica Lowe, Rhys Darby, and Will Greenberg. Guest stars include Rob Corddry, Eugene Cordero, Jonno Roberts, Karan Soni, Rachel House, Robert Baker, and Will Hines. The Lost parody centers on a diverse group of strangers who are stranded on a deserted island after a plane crash. In the third and final season, the castaways find themselves shipwrecked on a mysterious billionaire’s private island, where they're forced to hunt each other to the death in a basic-cable battle royale.

It’s official — TBS will not be ordering a fourth season of its comedy series Wrecked.

The writing had been on the wall for the series about a group of people stranded on an island, after their airplane crashed in the ocean. Its third season ended its run in October, and star Zach Cregger indicated on Twitter last summer that there would be no fourth season.

Wrecked, a comedic take on Lost — was a breakout hit for TBS when it debuted in 2016 but its ratings have tapered off since then.

Wrecked was about a diverse group of airplane passengers stranded on an uninhabited island, a dangerous new world where they must face many threats – mostly brought on by themselves. No longer plugged into the rest of the world, the group struggled to navigate their makeshift society while also learning to live without such modern comforts as indoor plumbing, wi-fi, social media and Chipotle.

While the second season ratings of the Wrecked TV show were lower than the first season's, the comedy series remained one of TBS' higher-rated original scripted series. Can Wrecked regain some ratings ground in season three? Will this sitcom be cancelled or renewed for season four? Stay tuned. *Status update below.

Jack the Ripper arrived in America with the kind of fanfare usually reserved for visiting royalty. Thanks to Joseph E. Levine’s million dollar promotional blitz the British shocker rode a wave of irresistible ballyhoo including a soundtrack LP and a typically salacious Monarch paperback that promised a walk on the wild side for adventurous ticket buyers.

The Maiden of Might just might cry Mercy in this sneak peek from the Season 4 premiere of Supergirl, which tonight christens its new Sundays-at-8/7c home.

In the season opener, titled “American Alien,” Kara (played by Melissa Benoist) welcomes cub reporter Nia Nal (transgender actress Nicole Maines) to CatCo, while Alex and Brainy struggle to get in sync in their new roles at the Deo.

The hour’s cold open shows us that Supergirl is finally firing on all cylinders, gleefully pulling double duty and zipping around the globe while her cousin Superman is off-world. Alas, that perfect life balance...

The Girl of Steel is returning to our screens in just under a month and from everything we’ve heard so far, Supergirl‘s fourth season promises to be a particularly awesome run of the Arrowverse show.

Even if you’re not feeling the hype just yet, don’t worry, as this cool new poster for the upcoming season should hopefully fix that. With a bold red color scheme, the one-sheet sees Melissa Benoist in full regalia as the Last Daughter of Krypton, with the caption teasing that season 4 will see Kara Zor-El play the part of “a force against fear.”

Supergirl returns to The CW next month for its fourth season and these promo photos, courtesy of SpoilerTV, tease what’s in store in the premiere, titled “The American Alien.”

In particular, season 4 will introduce a few new faces into National City and a handful of them are showcased in these images. First off, Nicole Maines is joining the cast as Nia Nal. As the photos make clear, the character will initially appear as a new employee of CatCo, though we know that Nia will be revealed as a superhero at some point – TV’s first ever transgender hero, to be specific. Going by the snaps, it looks like Nia and Kara will be firm pals from the off, too.

On the villainous side of things, the premiere will also see the arrival of two new foes on Supergirl’s turf: Mercy and Otis Graves (as played by Rhona Mitra...

Supergirl returns to The CW for its fourth season in just a few short weeks and this new promo is here to tease what we can expect from the premiere, titled “American Alien” – a name familiar to DC fans as it’s the name of Max Landis’ 2015 Superman storyline. Don’t expect more than the title to make the jump to the screen, though, as this trailer promises an all-new adventure for the titular hero.

Tying the promo together is a voiceover from Kara Danvers (Melissa Benoist). Speaking to someone off-screen, the Girl of Steel opens up about how even she’s scared, and how when she’s bested one fear a new one will always come along, but she says that she doesn’t let it stop her from “jumping right back out there.” It’s a nice speech and a strong way to remind us of who Supergirl...

Supergirl season 4 was set to add Star Trek: The Next Generation legend Brent Spiner to its line-up in the important recurring role of the Vice President of the United States. Unfortunately, though, Spiner’s had to step back from the part due to a family issue. And instead of rewriting scripts until the actor may become available again, Supergirl‘s production team has decided to just recast the role completely.

In place of Spiner, they’ve gone for another sci-fi icon from the 1990s. Bruce Boxleitner, most known for his role in Babylon 5, will be stepping into Spiner’s shoes to play Vice President Baker. Presumably, the character description released online a few weeks ago is still relevant, in which case Baker is set to be “adept and politically minded,” and “makes for an unlikely leader, but steps up in a big way when his country needs him most.

Supergirl is adding a legend of the Star Trek franchise to its cast for the upcoming fourth season in the form of Brent Spiner, most well known as Data in The Next Generation. He’ll be playing Vice President Baker, who’s described as “adept and politically minded,” and “makes for an unlikely leader, but steps up in a big way when his country needs him most.”

While it’s exciting for genre fans to see Spiner join the cast Supergirl, the description of the character doesn’t bode well for President Olivia Marsdin, as played by Wonder Woman icon Lynda Carter. The actress recently revealed that she was returning to The CW show for the first time since season 2, so we hoped we might see a lot more of her this year. However, it looks like something happens to Marsdin, which means Baker has to step in and take charge of the country.

It looks like Supergirl‘s adding even more characters from Superman lore for its upcoming run.

As revealed by Deadline, British actress Rhona Mitra has been cast as Mercy Graves for the upcoming fourth season of The CW show. First created for Superman: The Animated Series, Mercy’s usually depicted as the loyal bodyguard/assistant of Lex Luthor. She previously inspired the character of Tess Mercer in Smallville and Tao Okomoto played the part in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Mitra will be portraying a very different version of Mercy, however, as this iteration will be going at it solo and attempting to make a name for herself away from the service of the Luthor family. Judging by this description, it sounds like she’ll also be an ally of Agent Liberty’s (Sam Witwer) alien-hating “human-first” movement.

Supergirl has done more than its share of bringing characters from Superman's world into the fold. For starters, Jimmy Olsen is in nearly every episode, and we had an entire season with Cat Grant making Kara's life a little bit more anxious, and another with Metropolis' own Maggie Sawyer. The show brought Tyler Hoechlin in as Superman himself in the season two opener, which itself was loaded with Man of Steel lore and again for the brilliant Elseworlds crossover. Supergirl will be showing us a little Mercy next season: Rhona Mitra (The Last Ship) is joining the Season 4 cast of The CW’s superhero drama in a season-long recurring role as villainess Mercy Graves, our sister site Deadline is reporting.

TBS has slotted an August 7 premiere date for its plane crash survivor comedy series Wrecked.

This season, the Wrecked gang find themselves shipwrecked on a mysterious billionaire’s private island where they’re forced to hunt each other to the death in a basic-cable battle royale.

Season three stars Ally Maki, Asif Ali, Brian Sacca, Brooke Dillman, Jessica Lowe, Rhys Darby, Will Greenberg, and Zach Cregger, along with guest stars Rob Corddry, Eugene Cordero, Jonno Roberts, Karan Soni, Rachel House, Robert Baker, and Will Hines.

Exclusive: Star Trek’s Chris Pine co-wrote the comedy about a former child star.

Highland Film Group has added the reconfigured Chris Pine comedy Mantivities to its ambitious slate and is talking to buyers on the Croisette.

Pine wrote the screenplay and will produce the story with Sarah Babineau, Haven Entertainment’s Kevin Mann and Jordana Mollick.

Mantivities centres on a group of men who try to instil responsibility in their pal, a former child star, by taking him on a day of activities.

The film will also star real-life friends Robert Baker, Ian Gotler, Will Greenberg, Drew Howerton, and Tony Liebetrau – collectively known as The Button Factory.

The dark reason behind Melinda May's nickname was revealed in "Marvel's Agents of Shield" episode 9, "Repairs." Though the story behind "The Cavalry" twisted and morphed over the years, Coulson tells Skye that the incident that caused May to go cold was not a happy one.

According to him, May was a bit like Skye before she found herself in a situation she came out the worst for fixing. No one knows the details of the mission except May (which means it will take until at least the next sweeps period for the audience to find out as well), but Coulson says it caused May to lose herself.

Skye deduces that Coulson is keeping May around to try to warm her up again, and it seems like it's working. The post-credits scene shows that May got in on the aircraft prank war (which has a real-life parallel offscreen) by putting shaving...

Gamers like myself have had a long and storied history with the film industry. Movie adaptations of popular video games titles have often been met with derision from the gaming community, and with good reason. Starting with Super Mario Bros in ’93, Double Dragon (1994), and more recently the Resident Evil and Silent Hill franchises, Hollywood hasn’t exactly done right by the gaming industry. Luckily,Virtually Heroes, screening this year as part of the Midnight selection at Sundance, forgoes any specific source material, thereby skipping the middle man and moving right along to the B-movie.

Produced by genre luminary Roger Corman (the film also not so discretely borrows a good deal of stock footage from his films), Virtually Heroes offers tongue-in-cheek insight into the existential quandary that is the day-to-day of a video game hero. As vapid as the games...

Originally this report used a horserace as its metaphor. It was designed to see who was ahead of the others and who was lagging behind. U.S. talent agencies were increasingly acting as producer reps and thus inserting themselves into the sales of U.S. rights, an activity formerly the exclusive domain of international sales agents who would map their entire international strategy for sales, using the U.S. sale as a marketing tool for other sales. Now the race between producer reps and international sales agents for representing films, primarily at Sundance and Toronto is tracked in the By Numbers Report.

The report tracks which agents and which international sales agents are selling the most films, which titles are selling best, which distributors are buying the most, and any other noteworthy “races”, e.g., how many films are by women, Asians, African-diasporites, or are about such subjects as Jewish, Glbt, politics, whatever.

This year’s Cannes saw the number of women directors fall so drastically (from a steady 10 – 13% in festivals during the last few years), that an outcry was heard from professionals in the industry. Sundance significantly ups this figure. This year out of 16 fiction features in competition, 8 are by women. Of Sundance’s 113 features, 37 are by women which means 33%. We hope this is a trend and not an anomoly. Only time will tell. According to San Diego State University’s Center for the Study of Women in Television and Film, only 5% of the 250 highest-grossing films last year were directed by women.

Over time, the reports spot trends in the business of buying and selling, especially during festivals like Toronto and Sundance.

With time, we may find the number of Asian, Asian-American, African diaspora, Middle-Eastern and female directed films impact the marketplace itself. For that reason, these reports will continue to be offered to film professionals. The criterion are not set in stone but depend upon the moment.

Sundance By Numbers

If there were a Sundance Institute Performance Metric, a measure of its activities and performance, inwardly focusing on the performance of the organization, would show a high value of performance against customer requirements and value. Its performance metrics would prove it to be very healthy and consistent with the six criteria: time, cost, resources, scope, quality, and actions.

Bravo Sundance! On all fronts it is carrying through its original purpose and vision.

Out of 12,146 features and shorts (429 more than in 2012) submitted this yearincluding 4,044 feature-length films and 8,102 short films. Of the feature film submissions, 2,070 were from the U.S. and 1,974 were international. 113 features were chosen. 98 of these are world premieres. 33% of these are directed by women.

This year half of the 16 narrative fiction features in competition are directed by women. In the 2012 festival, only 3 of the 16 dramatic competition films were made by women. Overall, 33% (37 out of 113) of the Sundance titles are directed by women.

For the 2013 Sundance Film Festival, 113 feature-length films were selected, represented films were selected from 12,146 submissions (429 more than for 2012), 98 feature films at the Festival will be world premieres.

Number Of Producer Reps Repping U.S. Rights

What shows up most on this scorecard is the prevalence of the talent agencies and other “producers’ representatives”. In those “good old days” of Sundance before “Sex, Lies and Videotape” alerted Hollywood that there was some capital to be made in Park City, Sundance gave a home to the original visions of a few independent minded filmmakers, and there were no terms to describe “producer reps”. International sales agents (when these films had any such representation, which was also rare) did their work without deferring to dealmakers in Hollywood. And, as I said, these films usually did not have international representation. That is why the newly emerging acquisitions executives went to Sundance looking for films that they would not find in the existing markets (Cannes, Mifed or Afm).

Anyway, here we are today and here are the numbers:

There are about 12 Producers Reps. The newest fold in the relatively new “mini industry” of representing producers to the U.S. distribution community is that now, instead of one producer rep per film, often two competitive agencies might rep the U.S. rights as you can see in top scorers CAA, Wme or UTA’s lineups.

Producer reps do their best work in Sundance and in Toronto. They usually represent the producer to help make a lucrative U.S. deal. After the heat is gone in Sundance and Toronto, the producer reps usually fade away from the deal making, leaving the unpicked-up films in a limbo until some distributor finally makes a deal with the producer or the international sales agent directly.

In terms of capitol, while there is no official count, it is said that last year $30 million in deals were done at Sundance. If this is true, is it made primarily by the producer reps? What percentage do they get from the deal? Does this mean filmmakers have to have CAA rep them to break out of the gate? (The answer is no). Agents taking on the job of being producer reps are doing so because they have helped with packaging and/ or financing the films they are repping. Sometimes talent takes lower salaries when they work in indies and the agents must get as much back as possible.

It is not necessary to have an agent, there are other types of producer reps, including attorneys who act as attorneys but sometimes seem to be producers reps like Cinetic’s John Sloss, or Linda Licther, or Donaldson Callif who has 11 films in Sundance and 2 in Slamdance this year. There are also independent producer reps who are hungrier than the major agencies who must quickly earn their 10% (or not) and move on. These producer reps tend to work year round with the films they represent. Submarine, Preferred Content and Ronna Wallace’s Eastgate are the most important ones today.
