Matthew was born on March 27, 1988, in Shreveport, LA to Candice Sibley and James R Hortman, Jr. He was raised by his paternal grandparents on their family farm near Cotton Valley, LA. He attended the Louisiana Army National Guard Youth Challenge at Camp Minden, LA where he graduated in 2006. Matthew has one daughter, McKenzie (2013) and is a volunteer firefighter in Webster Parish, LA.
Matthew has worked within the funeral industry for several years, along with several other career jobs. He's definitely a jack of all trades. One thing that he believes in, "You can never have too many certifications! If you truly care about yourself and if you have a child to take care of, you do whatever it takes to make sure they have what they need and then some." Matthew also serves as the Fire Chief of Webster Parish Fire District 3 located in Doyline, Louisiana.
