In the first year of his study, he found a pamphlet at his school that a theater company was looking for young actors. He auditioned for the younger department of the Paardenkathedraal, a theatre company that was based in Utrecht. He was selected with 12 other youngsters and this was the start of his career.
After a few years of doing theatre, he got his first film gig on the set of Fogbound as the body double for Luke Perry. This was an eye-opener for him.
Around 25 he came in contact with The 48 Hour Film Project Amsterdam. Here he started to write and produce short films. His first film was Cure, a spy movie. He produced, co-wrote, and acted in this film. After this, he slowly moved away from theatre to focus on film acting.
At 27 he directed his first theatre play "Didolaxeos" in Utrecht. 3 years later he and some friends would shoot a short film on Aruba that was based on this theatre play called "Heb het Lief" Directed by Jon Karthaus.
After this Marcel took a sabbatical from acting, writing, and producing. Only to do a few small film projects with friends. In 2013 he was invited to come to Berlin to participate at KinoBerlino. KinoBerlino is part of the worldwide KinoKabaret movement. After this, he traveled through Europe and did around 35 KinoKabarets.
At one of these kino Kabarets, KinoM in Munchen, he met his wife Nataliya Trusova. In 2017 they went back to The Netherlands where Marcel put his focus back on Acting and writing.
