Few franchises are as controversial as the feel-good Christmas family comedy "Home Alone." The first two films are widely beloved, bonafide staples of the American Christmas movie canon. TV writer Greg Garcia grew up obsessing over sitcoms and comedy — which is why it’s fitting that he wound up in the profession, creating such memorable hits as “My Name Is Earl,” “Raising Hope,” “Yes, Dear,” and his current TBS anthology series, “The Guest Book.”

But he’s still a fan first and foremost, which is why he couldn’t wait recently to finally meet one of his idols, Jerry Seinfeld. It didn’t go as well as he had hoped.

Greg Garcia, the creator of My Name Is Earl and TBS show The Guest Book, is giving new meaning to the term pay TV.

My Name Is Earl and Raising Hope aren't coming back to television but their creator, Greg Garcia, is. His new comedy series, called The Guest List, is set to premiere this August on TBS. The new 10-episode comedy series from My Name Is Earl’s Greg Garcia has added Kellie Martin (Army Wives), Charlie Robinson (Hart of Dixie), Aloma Wright (Suits), Carly Jibson (Broadway's Hairspray), Lou Wilson (Tween Fest), Garret Dillahunt (The Mindy Project), Laura Bell Bundy (Scream Queens) and Eddie Steeples (My Name Is Earl). Exclusive: Christopher Douglas-Olen Ray directed the horror film by DeInstitutionalized starring Bill Cobbs, Richard Grieco and Eddie Steeples.

Mvd Entertainment acquired North American rights from Mvd DeInstitutionalized and plans a limited theatrical release and full home entertainment release across multiple platforms later this year.

Aurora Perrineau, Diahnna Nicole Baxter, Gerald Webb and Vine celebrity Melvin Gregg round out the key cast.

The story centres on a troubled married couple that moves their family into a dream home and must rally together when a malign force traps them in a labyrinth within.

A House is Not a Home is an indie horror feature being developed by DeInstitutionalized LLC. This title is a haunted house thriller, with a twist. Those shadows that go bump in the night might not be what the Williams family expects. And now, a movie poster has been released for the film. The graphic shows some of the evil that lies in the Williams' home. In the clouds, eyes of a creature can be seen and the home looks foreboding. This movie poster adds another piece to the puzzle of what A House is Not a Home is about, terrifying times. A House is Not a Home will complete in June of this year (2013). DeInstitutionalized LLC has released the first poster for their horror thriller A House Is Not a Home. This horror title was shot in Simi Valley, California, during December of 2012. The film notably stars Gerald Webb (Layover, “True Blood”), Bill Cobbs (Night at the Museum), Eddie Steeples (“My Name is Earl”) and Richard Grieco (“21 Jump Street”). A House Is Not a Home will complete post-production in June of this year.

The first graphic for the feature warns of an entity inside this new home. The Williams family have recently moved into their residence, but something is not right. Shapes and shadows move in the home late at night, and a presence is stalking this family.

Director David Guy Levy and Writer Steffen Schlachtenhaufen have recorded an audio commentary to accompany their grisly thriller Would You Rather? The track, which you can download via Soundcloud below, is synced to the film, which stars Brittany Snow and Sasha Grey as two financially desperate women who, along with others in similar situations, are offered a way out of their troubles by a mysterious aristocrat (Re-Animator's Jeffrey Combs), whose “solution” involves the title game, a horrific series of one-ups with grisly consequences. John Heard, Lawrence Gilliard Jr., Eddie Steeples and Charlie Hofheimer also star.

Would You Rather? is available now via iTunes, Amazon and other digital vendors, and you can use the widget below to download the commentary to play along with the film (for your second viewing, of course – no doubt there's spoilers galore in there). It is set to start on the first note of music at the beginning of the film.

Recently, I got a chance to talk with writer-director David Guy Levy, who’s second feature film (after A Love Affair Of Sorts), Would You Rather, recently came out on VOD [my review can be found here].

The film stars a cavalcade of interesting actors, including Brittany Snow, Eddie Steeples, John Heard, Jonny Coyne, Jeffrey Combs, Enver Gjokaj, and Sasha Grey. The premise is simple: a bunch of varied personalities, all in dire straits for myriad reasons, play a twisted game of “Would You Rather?” that decides their fate.

Would You Rather – typically a harmless game of immature questions and self-discovery. Would you rather have a rewind button in your life, or a pause button? Would you rather make one new law of your choice or abolish an existing law? Would you rather go back in time and kill Hitler or bring five people back to life of your choosing? These go on for days, but all seem safe, right?

Well, since this is a dark, psychological, “torture porn” thriller, Would You Rather plays anything but nice. Instead of asking harmless questions of hypothetics, writer Steffen Schlachtenhaufen and director David Guy Levy have teamed to ask some unfortunately desperate victims questions with actual life and death consequences, creating a sickening scenario of power abuse with the worst of intentions.
