Christian Loubek
- Director
- Cinematographer
Christian may be one of the world's more experienced 'first-time' directors in the world. He got his feet wet in the industry very early, directing parking-lot traffic on the snowy set of Promised Land, a film that launched two little-known actors, Kiefer Sutherland and Meg Ryan. He relished the work and aspired for more.
At that young age, he began shooting no-budget films for others and boldly avowed that he would never shoot a commercial in his purist pursuit of directing his own feature film. Months later Phillip Squier, a prominent Advertising Creative Director, saw his work and asked him to consider directing an advert for him. Christian said yes.
He began a directing career in the dot-com era where he was innovative with his visual style in a new tech landscape. He won a Communication Arts Gold on first project, a three-film interactive narrative that he wrote, shot and directed for Eddie Bauer. He partnered with Digital Kitchen to direct the opening credits for Six Feet Under which changed the way TV was branded.
He moved from Seattle to the national stage when he joined directors Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, Cary Fukunaga & David Fincher at Anonymous Content. He remained immersed in commercial work for the next 20 years. In 2020, Christian joined the ceremonious roster of indie directors Dayton & Faris, Jason Reitman & Miguel Arteta at Bob Industries in the hopes of reclaiming his dream.
Christian has shot in over 18 different countries and directed in 9 different languages. There aren't too many situations that Christian hasn't faced. He's worked with A-list actors and athletes alike. He's honed his craft on mountaintops at 12,000' above sea level and with scuba tanks at 400kpa underwater. He was once diagnosed with Dengue Fever thanks to his work in film. He is known for capturing saavy performances with visual sophistication.
In 2023, Christian directed the first narrative short film of his own telling. He found inspiration for the material in the strength and sacrifice of his wife, actress Erika Hamilton, after she birthed their children. The story took on greater personal depth as time passed and the two agreed to hold onto the script until both children were of age to play the central roles alongside her. BELIEF is a tribute to the transcendent power of mothers.
Christian looks forward to being the world's most experienced first-time 'feature film' director later this year.
