Film Mode Entertainment has come on to handle worldwide sales at EFM and co-produce the comedic thriller CATnip starring Chevy Chase, Bruce Dern and Joey Lauren Adams, which has begun production in Los Angeles.

Nyle Cavazos Garcia directs the story about a struggling family who move into an apartment and find their hopes of a fresh start are upended by a terrifying colony of feral cats. Anna Clols has also joined the cast, which includes Jake Busey, and Lorelei Linklater.

Keli Price is producing through his Price Productions alongside Garcia through Small Town Pictures, while Javier C. Ortiz and Amado DeHoyos are executive producers.

The indie horror thriller with comedic elements follows as “a struggling family’s fresh start in a run-down apartment building turns into a fight for survival as a horde of feral cats unleashes terror, revealing the dark and deadly horrors lurking within its walls.”

It also happens to be set over Christmas Eve.

It sounds like the apartment building is already stacked, too. The cast also includes Jake Busey, Geoffrey Arend, Keli Price, Lorelei Linklater, Charlotte Kirk, Brooke Bundy, Kylee Levien, and River Jose.

But they also always seem so formulaic, so I am happy to report that Autumn Road at least tries to do things a bit different with the idea.

The disappearance of a young girl effects the local town and in particular two twins who run a, you’ve guessed it, haunted house attraction, and an aspiring actress who soon becomes friends with them. The story isn’t centred on the haunted house attraction and that’s definitely a good thing, as when it does show up properly it’s towards the end of the movie and it feels like something fresh. Being young and just starting out can be a rough time. It’s also prime source material for young filmmakers to tell their stories. One film in particular, the just getting released Anywhere With You, is mining just that territory. Is it old hat, especially in independent cinema? Of course it is. Is it still vertical ground? Last night it was Birdman that took home Best Picture at the 87th Academy Awards. The film from Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu is certainly deserving of praise and reward, but there's part of me that thinks Boyhood will be the film that stands the test of time a little better. Last year I had quite a bit to say about the Oscar show itself. This yearc Eh, not so much. The show wasn't very good in my opinion, but at the same time I don't really blame that on Neil Patrick Harris, most anyone would have suffered with the material he was given. Granted, the overall night made it seem like Harris contributed far less to the show than Ellen DeGeneres did last year, or perhaps he just can't deliver comedy as well as DeGeneres. Many of Harris's jokes fell dreadfully flat. His opening monologue played more like a eulogy to the Oscars and the industry as a whole rather than the comedic roasting it was meant to deliver, and it wasn't only Harris. Jack Black's addition to the opening musical number was not only great, it was spot on. Liam Neeson even continued the trend as he introduced...

I'm betting it continues to be a big weekend for Birdman on account of actors playing actors in a movie about acting (not to mention that the ensemble Is truly worthy) but I could be wrong. The temptation to wield your guild's top award as a defacto Best Picture prize -- even though none of the guilds are meant to be awarding that but their own craft instead -- has often proven a strong lure. Boyhood is easier to love so perhaps they'll hand the prize to just four people: Patricia Arquette, Ethan Hawke, Ellar Coltrane and Lorelei Linklater.
