Denis Villeneuve brought Frank Herbert’s Dune books to life with his movies, which went on to become a great success on screen. Further expanding this universe, Dune: Prophecy took everyone by surprise with its complex characters and storylines. However, as the show gears up for its second season, there are signs that the show’s highest-rated episode could be a wake-up call for the showrunners.

Despite receiving a solid reception, with a finale that was the highest in terms of ratings, Dune: Prophecy still lags behind other shows like Game of Thrones. This is something the creators need to work on so that season 2 doesn’t face the same challenges.
Why aren’t Dune: Prophecy’s episodes earning higher ratings?

How Did Desmond Hart Get The Thinking Machine In Dune Prophecy? (Photo Credit – Instagram)
As per Screenrant, the magical powers of Desmond Hart manifested in Dune: Prophecy’s season one finale is fueled by the Thinking Machines. The six-episode series is adapted from the novel Sisterhood of Dune, published in 2012, and takes place 10,000 years before Paul Atreidies stands at the helm. The series rides on the origins of the much-feared shadow sisterhood, the Bene Gesserit, as it creates and manipulates human destiny. Indeed, it makes for a thrilling and thought-provoking watch.
Who Put A Thinking Machine Inside Desmond Hart?
Desmond Hart is a product of genetic manipulation done on the son of Tula Harkonnen and Orry Atreides. His power of burning people to ashes is fully explored in the finale of season one. Valya has a vision that alerts her of the Thinking Machines interfering with Desmond’s right eye...

The first season of Dune: Prophecy wrapped up last night with "The High-Handed Enemy," an eventful episode that left many of our characters in new and unexpected places. On Wallach IX, Dorotea — a Bene Gesserit sister killed decades ago — took over the body of her granddaughter Lila (Chloe Lea) and is now trying to steer the Sisterhood in a whole new direction. Tula Harkonnen (Olivia Williams) is now a prisoner of her son Desmond Hart (Travis Fimmel) on the planet Salusa Secundus, and Valya Harkonnen (Emily Watson) has traveled with Princess Ynez (Sarah-Sofie Boussnina) and swordmaster Kieran Atredies (Chris Mason) to the desert world of Arrakis to find out who's been manipulating Desmond from behind the scenes, and why.
Those are a lot of threads to leave dangling ahead. Happily, we now know the show will continue with a second season. Unhappily, it probably won't happen for a couple of years.

Note: This story contains spoilers from “Dune: Prophecy” Episode 6.
“Dune: Prophecy” finally took some characters to the fabled planet Arrakis in the finale of Season 1, but much more of the locale is to come in the second season.
The first season of the sci-fi prequel – which explored the rise of the Bene Gesserit 10,000 years before the birth of Paul Atreides – ended with Valya (Emily Watson) escaping to the desert planet with Ynez (Sarah-Sofie Boussina) and Keiran (Chris Mason) as Desmond (Travis Fimmel) took more control of Salusa Secundus.
Showrunner Alison Schapker admitted at a recent press conference that Arrakis has been “exerting its pull from afar” after a season of keeping its distance — “whether that’s in the economics of spice trade or the psychological aspects and nightmares that are sort of imagery of Arrakis and Desmond’s past seeping into everyone’s consciousness.” She emphasized the satisfaction of actually...

[This story contains major spoilers from the Dune: Prophecy season finale.]
The hierarchy of the Dune universe just changed.
No, the Rock was nowhere to be found on the season finale of HBO’s Dune: Prophecy. Instead, it’s a different rock taking center stage: Arrakis, the desert planet at the heart of Frank Herbert’s novels on which the show is based.
While Arrakis is referenced throughout the first six-episode season, Dune: Prophecy avoided actually bringing the planet to life onscreen, save for some brief (but important) holographic flashes. Now, the thing is well and fully on display, thanks to the last scene of the finale. The spicy world of Arraks is officially on the map, and stands ready for exploration in the recently announced season two.
In a press conference last week, Dune: Prophecy showrunner Alison Schapker said the change in scenery was decided on after “a season of Arrakis kind of exerting its pull from afar,...

In the penultimate episode 5 of HBO’s science fiction series Dune: Prophecy, we are finally given a hint about the real identity of the main antagonist, Desmond Hart, and his motivations in trying to stop the Sisterhood are also explained. The episode also introduces a new character in the present timeline, although her childhood self was seen earlier, as Francesca comes to Emperor Corrino’s castle and eventually helps out the Sisterhood. More from Wallach IX is also revealed, as Lila finally comes back to life, although she is not her normal self just yet.
Spoiler Alert
How does Francesca turn the tides of power?

Episode 4 of Dune: Prophecy saw the conspiracy to dethrone Emperor Corrino reach an explosive climax with an assassination attempt getting foiled. In episode 5, we see the characters deal with the aftermath of that, but the result is much less thrilling, causing the show to fall back into the ways of its earlier episodes.
Dune: Prophecy Episode 5 Recap
At the beginning of the episode, we see Desmond Hart (Travis Fimmel) suiting up in a new uniform for his new role as the Emperor’s Bashar — the commander of the Sardaukar. Corrino (Mark Strong) says that now more than ever, they must defend their values. He tasks Desmond with eradicating treason, which causes Princess Ynez (Sarah-Sofie Boussnina) to storm away in anger.
Desmond encourages Corrino to prioritize showing strength over facilitating trade. Meanwhile, Sister Francesca (Tabu) arrives at the request of Constantine, who is revealed to be her son. Constantine (Josh Heuston...

Believe it or not, we've arrived at the penultimate episode of the first season of Dune: Prophecy. Yep, there is only one more episode left in this six-episode season.
Some fans have written off the show as too short to be worth investing in, and there are points in this journey where I've thought that another episode or two could have helped. But I also want to applaud Dune: Prophecy for making the most of the time it's been alotted. A ton happened in each episode and continues to happen here.
I'll admit that I found this penultimate episode to be a little sleepy, which I attribute to it spending a lot of time with characters other than Valya (Emily Watson) and Tula Harkonnen (Olivia Williams). On the one hand, I commend Dune: Prophecy for committing to being an ensemble show, but I don't think it's taken the time to...

What if everything is just a simulation? From the air you breathe to the debates over whether you should buy the next Assassin’s Creed, it could all be an elaborate plan by someone far more powerful than us. And well, if you have been following Ubisoft’s franchise, that ‘someone’ might just be the Isu, the ancient, god-like beings.
If explored, the simulation theory could change the course of the franchise. | Image Credit: Ubisoft
Now, what if the Isu have been using their ancient knowledge to manipulate reality itself, essentially pulling the strings from behind the scenes? Whether or not that’s true, it’s time for the studio to use Assassin’s Creed: Shadows and dig deeper into the theory. This way, players get to explore and learn more about the power of the Isu, adding more depth to the universe.

“Dune: Prophecy” is picking up the pace in Episode 2 — and gradually revealing more about the show’s villain (and antihero).
After expositional duty and climactic finale to Episode 1, “Two Wolves” is distinctly more focused, written by Kor Adana and directed by John Cameron. HBO dives into the world of the Bene Gesserit with Dune: Prophecy, which premiered on Sunday, November 17, 2024. The series takes place 10,000 years before Dune and a century after the war against AI that led to the banning of thinking machines. Dune: Prophecy explores the creation of the Bene Gesserit, what motivates the Sisterhood, and their use of eugenics that will ultimately lead to the creation of Paul Atreides (played by Timothee Chalamet in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune films).
Prior to the series’ debut, stars Emily Watson (“Valya Harkonnen”), Olivia Williams (“Tula Harkonnen”), Jodhi May (“Empress Natalya Arat Corrino”), and Travis Fimmel (“Desmond Hart”) joined executive producer Jordan Goldberg and showrunner/executive producer Alison Schapker for a press conference. The following are select highlights from the lengthy in-person and virtual press event for one of HBO’s most anticipated series.

Movies about siblings and their clashes, all related to their pasts, as well as their insecurities and their differentiating relationships with their parents, work in touching the heartstrings primarily because the drama is pulling from recognizable emotions. The tricky balance of ensuring that events play out for the conflict to occur and resolve while also keeping naturalistic tonalities at play is what separates soap operas from impactful drama. It also becomes an acting showcase for all the leads in the films as well.
Ben Snyder’s “Allswell in New York” suffers from a tonal as well as a focus problem. It has too many plots on its plate to finally hone in on the lives of the three Nuyorcan women at the center of the story. HBO’s new prequel series dives deep into the origins of the Bene Gesserit, unraveling secrets that set the stage for the epic battles seen in the recent “Dune” movies.

Behind every supposedly “great man,” there is not just a woman standing behind him, but an entire sisterhood of supernaturally gifted members pulling the strings. At least, this is the case in “Dune: Prophecy,” the HBO prequel series that takes place a whopping 10,148 years before the birth of the false prophet Paul Atreides, played by Timothée Chalamet in the films “Dune” and “Dune: Part 2.” Not to be outdone by what has come before, this promising new take finds plenty of its own deceivers with the power to forever alter the very course of the universe, drawing us into their machinations while the grim reality looms that they may be the agents of their own destruction.
Though not as sweeping in scope and without the same breathtaking visuals as those prior works, this thematic core makes the six-episode series a frequently stellar one as it more than manages to stand apart,...

‘Dune: Prophecy’ Review: HBO’s Somber ‘House of the Dragon’-Style Prequel Could Use a Bit More Spice
When it premieres on HBO Sunday, Nov. 17, Dune: Prophecy will take the place of The Penguin on the schedule. It’ll also continue the premium cable giant’s recent run of odd corporate integration, in which it takes blockbuster Warner Bros. film franchises and retrofits them as new television versions of popular HBO series.
Just as the creative team behind The Penguin looked at the opportunity to do a standalone show focused on Colin Farrell’s waddling crime lord and delivered The Sopranos with more latex, the developers of Dune: Prophecy apparently looked at the opportunity to do a prequel tied to Denis Villeneuve’s Dune and delivered House of the Dragon with (a very few) sandworms in place of (an awful lot of) dragons.
I’m not saying that when HBO’s Harry Potter series finally emerges from its endless gestation, it will be a stealth reboot of Arli...

The Boys has become one of the most popular comic book series largely due to its highly successful TV adaptation, which has in turn boosted the comic’s popularity. Meanwhile, DC Comics stands as one of the world’s largest comic book publishers, and The Boys cleverly satirizes elements of their work.
Despite their distinct plots and characters (beyond The Boys’ parody of DC’s characters), there are individuals who bridge both worlds through their involvement in live-action adaptations of The Boys and DC’s comic book properties, both in live-action and animated forms.
Here are the actors and actresses who have appeared in both The Boys and DC’s live-action and animated adaptations. In this article, you’ll discover who they are and the roles they played.
1. Karen Fukuhara
Karen Fukuhara stands out as one of the most significant actors on this list, portraying pivotal characters in both franchises.

We know that The Boys is one of the most popular comic book series of all time, which is mostly due to the TV series being exceptionally popular; this, of course, increased the popularity of the comic book as well. At the same time, DC Comics is one of the two biggest comic book publishers in the world, and The Boys is, in part, satirizing their work as well.
While these two have very little in common in terms of their plots and characters (aside from the fact that some of The Boys characters are parodies of DC’s characters), there are several people that connect the live-action adaptation of The Boys, as well as the live-action and animated adaptation of DC’s comic books.

Years after "The Sopranos" started what we consider the Peak TV era, there came a show that changed network TV forever: "Lost." It's a show that is as controversial as it is influential, one that helped bring serialization to mainstream TV, make the showrunner as recognizable among TV obsessives as the actors on screen, and delivered one of the most controversial endings in history (though it is a perfect send-off for the show).
Much like "Star Wars," it doesn't matter where you fall on the love/hate scale of "Lost," there is one thing all fans can agree on — the score remains consistently stellar throughout.
A big part of why "Lost" is still talked about so many years later is Michael Giacchino's score. There is a reason why Giacchino has played multiple concerts celebrating the music of the show since it ended in 2010, and why hundreds of people from...

Queen Elizabeth II’s career was, well, being queen. Her life changed at 10 years old when her uncle, King Edward VIII, abdicated, cementing her status as a future queen. However, in later years, she admitted if a career outside the royal family had been an option, she knew what she would’ve selected.

Think the queen would’ve made a career of breeding dogs or racing horses, given her lifelong love of dogs and horses? Wrong. Sure, she bred both horses and dogs. But, if given the opportunity for a different career path, neither would’ve been her first choice.

There have been funny male stripper movies (The Full Monty), auteur-directed male stripper movies (Magic Mike), Black male stripper movies (three Chocolate City films). Now comes Back on the Strip, yet another attempt to wrest humor and drama from the spectacle of scantily clad men gyrating to audiences of wildly appreciative women. The independent film receiving a wide release definitely leans toward the funnier end of the spectrum, with its overqualified cast including many formidable comedic talents. But despite some amusing moments, it never really takes off, burdened by a tiresome romantic subplot that periodically stops the movie dead in its tracks.
The story revolves around Merlin (Spence Moore II), whose name stems from his lifelong desire to pursue a career as a magician. His supportive single mother Verna (Tiffany Haddish), who narrates the proceedings, encourages him in his dreams and roots for him when he makes an appearance at a local talent contest.

It would come as no surprise to learn that “Back on the Strip” started out as a “Magic Mike” parody. I’m not saying that it did. But what else could explain the bizarrely literal premise of an ensemble indie comedy in which our hero is a wannabe magician who heads to Vegas hoping to be the next David Copperfield, only to wind up shaking his wand for a Chippendales-style male dance revue instead?
What makes “Strip” so consistently funny for most of its too-long two-hour running time isn’t Merlin’s lame prestidigi-dream (that part feels like co-writers Chris Spencer and Eric Daniel have been watching too many Nickelodeon movies) but the sorry state of his fellow dancers: a has-been crew called the Chocolate Chips. That fairly original hook allowed the filmmakers to round up an A-list lineup for this C-grade endeavor. The movie features everyone from Tiffany Haddish...

One of the most beloved classic rock songs of the late 1970s is Kiss’ “I Was Made for Lovin’ You.” The tune was written on the piano. Subsequently, the track became one of many examples of rock bands making disco music during that era.
How Kiss’ ‘I Was Made for Lovin’ You’ is connected to Bon Jovi and Alice Cooper
Desmond Child is the songwriter behind hits like Bon Jovi’s “Livin’ on a Prayer” and Alice Cooper’s “Poison.” He co-wrote “I Was Made for Lovin’ You” with Vini Poncia and Kiss’ Paul Stanley. America is an obscenely rich nation. We have supermarkets with 50 different brands of potato chips and mega-mansions sprouting like buffalo grass across the prairie and TVs the size of barns. With all this wealth, all this bounty, all this stuff — why is there so much hardship and suffering? Roughly one in nine Americans live in poverty. If the American poor founded a country, that country would have a bigger population than Australia or Venezuela.
This is the paradox that Matthew Desmond explores in Poverty, By America. And the explanation he...

Tl;Dr:
Paul McCartney’s “Another Day” is about a woman’s boring life. It doesn’t live up to the lyrical melodrama of The Beatles’ “Eleanor Rigby.” “Another Day” still became a big hit in the United States and the United Kingdom. Paul McCartney | Chris Walter / Contributor
Paul McCartney‘s “Another Day” is a terrible song. It has some vague similarities to The Beatles’ “Eleanor Rigby.” Despite this, it fails to live up to that song in every way.
Paul McCartney’s ‘Another Day’ is an attempt to flesh out a fictional character
Paul is very good at writing character songs. He brought characters many characters to life in his songs, including Eleanor Rigby, Desmond and Molly Jones from “Ob-la-Di, Ob-la-Da,” and the title character from “Hey Jude.” He tries to do the same thing on “Another Day,” to a far lesser effect.

Ti West has been churning out grisly indie horror films for almost two decades, starting with “The Roost” before his breakout satanic panic thriller “The House of the Devil” in 2009. But his recent collaboration with A24 on porn-set slasher “X,” campy gothic follow-up “Pearl,” and trilogy-ender “MaXXXine” has spawned an entirely singular Ti West Cinematic Universe: a cause for celebration in a Hollywood, where such franchises too often seem to cannibalize each other with spinning-out-of-control mythologies and winking and self-referential fan-baiting.
So it’s interesting that, for the director of movies like “Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever” and the Jonestown-inspired mockumentary “The Sacrament,” the great films of horror history annals largely don’t strike him as the best the medium has to offer. At least, that’s according to his ballot for BFI’s 2022 Sight & Sound filmmakers poll of the greatest movies of all time. There’s no “Texas Chain Saw Massacre” or “Halloween” here,...
