Award winning Canadian screenwriter, indie-film director and producer, Brad Wozny recently optioned a pair of his scripts to an Oscar and Emmy-winning production company on the lot at a major Hollywood studio. They are currently working to get the films into pre-production.
Brad is a member of the Canadian Media Producer's Association, and active as an Assistant Director under the Director Guild of Canada. As a writer, performer and assistant director, he has worked on motion pictures and TV shows from Disney, Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures, Twentieth Century Fox, and A&E Networks, to Hallmark and Lifetime Media.
In a recent discussion, Wozny stated, "My path into this industry is far from normal". He has said he feels fortunate to have come a long way from childhood modelling and "being a failure at acting" in Toronto during his early years as an ACTRA member. "But there's where the filmmaking bug caught on," prompting him to convert school essays and fictional stories into film projects, shoot documentaries, and record passion projects throughout University.
Unable to attend film school as the tuition "was pretty far beyond my parent's reach", he (Wozny) dabbled with other career options: First serving his country as an Infantry Soldier, then fighting wildfire as a Fire Ranger. Wozny remarks he was in his early twenties when is parents "laid down the law - they said I had to get serious about life...so I did what everyone else did, I jumped into the corporate rat race".
Yet his love for storytelling never left, and it tugged him back to his natural calling.
With some Improv training from The Second City's acclaimed comedy school, Wozny went on to study the works of screenwriting masters and take classes from Hollywood legend Aaron Sorkin. This resulted in the development of feature screenplays which quickly garnered over half a dozen nominations, mentions or awards in fourteen months, with two being optioned a short time after.
Allocating his free time to volunteer with horses, Wozny leverages his skills as a Reiki Master to help heal animals affected by trauma.
