Filmmaker, Writer, and Producer Ifé Duckie marks her first feature film with 'A Place in the Dark' (2023), a poignant narrative that delves into the profound societal challenges of our time and their wide-reaching ramifications. This captivating tale takes viewers on an emotive expedition through the lives of multifaceted and compelling characters, unraveling their intricate layers as they navigate a landscape defined by both passion and pain.
Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Ifé Duckie was raised in the company of her father, a police constable, her mother, a typist, and her grandmother, a prominent pharmacist. Her academic journey commenced at Mona Primary School, followed by her successful admission to Ardenne High School after triumphing in the Common Entrance exam. In the early eighties, during her third form (ninth grade), Ifé relocated to the United States to join her father and three brothers. It was during her time at Proviso East High School, where she undertook an advanced placement course in Development of Western Thoughts, that Ifé discovered her innate talent for writing.
Upon completing high school, Ifé pursued higher education at Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida. However, after completing her freshman year, she decided to discontinue her studies. Subsequently, she enrolled intermittently at local community colleges in Chicago before ultimately earning an associate's degree in General Studies from Malcolm-X College. Despite originally aspiring to become a pharmacist and fulfilling the necessary prerequisites for pharmacy school, Ifé redirected her path toward nursing after starting a family. She completed two semesters at the University of Illinois School of Nursing in Chicago before relocating to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Eventually, Ifé concluded her undergraduate studies at Florida Atlantic University's Christine E. Lynn School of Nursing, attaining a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
During her years at FAU's Nursing School, Ifé uncovered her ardor for writing, a passion that has since remained unwavering. She later pursued a Master's in Health Law at Nova Southeastern University's Shepard Broad Law School, where she graduated summa cum laude. Yet, while working for diverse organizations, Ifé always sensed a void within herself, leading her to establish Ifé Creative Works, Inc., alongside her husband of over two decades, as a platform to share her narratives with the world.
Ifé Creative Works aims to offer high-quality, intellectually stimulating, and innovative entertainment. Embracing its namesake derived from the Yoruba tribe in Nigeria, where Ifé signifies "Love," the company adheres to this definition in its mission, striving to infuse artistic value into the entertainment realm through imaginative, enriching, and thought-provoking creations. The company's guiding principle is encapsulated in its slogan, "At Ifé Creative Works, Inc., we think, create, and entertain with excellence in style and expression" Ife Duckie.
Ifé and her husband nurture a blended family consisting of four sons.
