Hiromu Arakawa’s Fullmetal Alchemist is highly regarded among anime fans and has set a standard with its cohesive storytelling. Maintaining the top position on MyAnimeList for years, until Frieren was released, is proof of the series’ popularity among fans. Fullmetal Alchemist has a universal appeal with different things to offer to all age groups. It can get heavy and serious while also keeping the tension in check with the humor.

While there are many remarkable aspects of the storytelling in the anime, it does one thing fairly well that most Shonen series struggle with, power-scaling. A slightly controversial fight that involved Roy Mustang is the perfect example of how Arakawa scales the character quite well without many inconsistencies. The same reason makes the fight a hot topic of discussion among fans sometimes but is generally regarded as one of the best.

How to Rob a Bank, the latest Netflix documentary, takes us back to the mid-nineties, when the United States of America was standing on the brink of an economic boom, and a man with twisted ideologies decided to wage war against the establishment. It is very important to understand the kind of person Scott Scurlock was in order to know what was going on in his mind when he decided to rob a bank. As Scott’s sister puts it, there was a huge part of Scott’s life that he kept private. Nobody knew what was going on inside his mind, though Suzanne had a fair idea that her brother was a bit of a loner. He talked to people, he socialized, and on the face of it, he looked like a pretty normal chap. But there was a part of him that he hid from others, and there...

After being saved by the “Ding Dong Keep It On” bell on “New York Night,” Medusa was on a mission to prove she deserved her spot in Wednesday night’s “The Masked Singer” finale. She clawed her way back into the competition, taking out Gargoyle and Mantis in the “Battle of the Saved.” Next, the snake-headed songstress belted her way through the “Quarter Finals (British Invasion Night)” and sent home California Roll in the “Semi-Finals,” the quintet that originally defeated her.
With just Macaw standing between Medusa and the Golden Mask trophy, she wowed panelists Robin Thicke, Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg, Ken Jeong and Nicole Scherzinger with performances of “Elastic Heart” by Sia and “Welcome to the Black Parade” by My Chemical Romance. She said after the latter, “This means so much to me, and, the fact that I got to end my journey with my sister’s favorite song, and,...

It was déjà vu for David Archuleta on Wednesday night’s finale of “The Masked Singer.” The 32-year old performer who had been masquerading as Macaw all season finished in second place to Medusa, the same position he landed on Season 7 of “American Idol” when he lost to David Cook. His emotional journey of self-discovery ended with performances of “Hold Back the River” by James Bay and “All By Myself” by Eric Carmen. Panelists Nicole Scherzinger and Ken Jeong correctly guessed the musician’s identity, but Robin Thicke and Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg were off the mark.
“We knew we were coming on this, going out of our comfort zone and doing something different,” David told host Nick Cannon during his unmasked interview. “I didn’t know it was going to be so much fun. It’s just been healing being able to be the Macaw.”

Like a river, Bishop Briggs kept a steady flow throughout Season 9 of Fox’s “The Masked Singer” — and her perseverance was rewarded with the championship. Briggs, as Medusa, won this season’s top prize and was finally unmasked on Wednesday night’s finale, along with runner-up David Archuleta, revealed as the Macaw.
Briggs, who performed the most of any contestant this season, sealed her victory with performances of “Elastic Heart,” by Sia, and “Welcome to the Black Parade,” by My Chemical Romance. Although Briggs said singing under the Medusa costume was a challenge, she pointed out that it was nothing compared to what she did last year.

Wednesday night’s “The Masked Singer” was a three-way Battle Royale! After their rendition of “Breakaway” by Kelly Clarkson, California Roll was shockingly eliminated in third place behind. Macaw and Medusa will face off in the Season 9 finale next week. Panelists Robin Thicke and Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg weren’t fooled by the Grammy-winning quintet wearing sushi masks, but Ken Jeong and Nicole Scherzinger were both off the mark.

Pentatonix is pretty easy to recognize, as perhaps the best-known a cappella group performing today. So from the start, it was pretty easy to tell it was them on “The Masked Singer” – and indeed, the five-person group was unmasked as California Roll on Thursday’s show, which also doubled as the Season 9 semifinals.
For their first song, “Paparazzi,” group member Scott Hoying said they tried to avoid doing any harmonies at first, “so we could hide the iconic Pentatonix harmony sound for at least a minute. But it didn’t work, because every comment on every video was like, ‘I knew from the beginning it was Pentatonix and I was confirmed as soon as they all came in.

Three all new celebrities in disguise took took the stage for “80s Night” on Wednesday’s “The Masked Singer.” After a performance of “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” by Cyndi Lauper, Scorpio advanced to the Battle Royale where she got her stinger snipped by Doll. The venemous performer pulled off her mask to reveal “Selling Sunset” star Christine Quinn. Panelists Robin Thicke, Jenny McCarthy, Ken Jeong and Nicole Scherzinger were all stumped by the reality TV star.
“I was like, if I’m gonna do it I’m goin’ out with a bang!” Christine told host Nick Cannon during her unmasked interview. “I’ve always loved the show and girls just want to have fun! I call myself a closet singer. So the fact that I’m here singing in front of people just goes to show that anything is possible if you put your mind to it and practice.

Three all new celebrities in disguise took took the stage for “80s Night” on Wednesday’s “The Masked Singer.” After a performance of “The Power of Love” by Huey Lewis & The News, Moose placed third place behind Doll and Scorpio. The antlered crooner pulled off his mask to reveal himself as former “Cheers” star and six-time Emmy nominee George Wendt. Panelist Jenny McCarthy correctly guessed the TV star, but Robin Thicke, Ken Jeong and Nicole Scherzinger were off the mark.
When asked by host Nick Cannon why he decided to appear on the show, George quipped, “I thought maybe I’d win.” He continued, “It is profoundly ridiculous,” while the audience screamed, “Norm!” When asked if he ever gets tired of the reference to his “Cheers” character, he said, “No, I don’t get tired of it is. One of the biggest challenges in writing is wrapping things up. If you fail to write a satisfying ending, you can taint your story even for its most dedicated fans. Hiromu Arakawa, author of "Fullmetal Alchemist," testified to this in a 2021 interview with Bessatsu Shonen Magazine. In a conversation with Hajime Isayama, both authors described the difficulties they faced in concluding their stories.
Per Arakawa, her thorniest challenge was the fate of Colonel Roy Mustang — and how much suffering he was due. The overarching theme of "Fullmetal Alchemist" is equivalent exchange: you get what you deserve. Now that Mustang is on the side of the good guys, that's (almost) never in doubt. From his charm to his badass fighting skills to his hilarious love for tiny mini-skirts, it's easy to like Mustang. It's just as easy to forget he has gallons of innocent blood staining his hands.

“The Masked Singer” is like a jungle sometimes, it makes you wonder how you keep from going under. On Wednesday’s episode, rap legend Grandmaster Flash was trying not to be pushed, since he was so close to the edge. But despite trying not to, he lost his head.
Grandmaster Flash was the latest celebrity to be unmasked on Season 9 of “The Masked Singer,” revealed as the Polar Bear. The hip-hop pioneer sang “Rapture,” by Blondie. And there’s quite a connection there.
“That song was actually written for me,” he told Variety. “I remember Fab Five Freddy bringing [Blondie’s Debbie Harry] to one of my shows. This is way back in the day before I became famous. And she wrote this song of what she saw when...

Two all new celebrities in disguise took on returning champ Medusa for “Abba Night” on Wednesday’s “The Masked Singer.” After a rousing rendition of “Fernando,” Night Owl lost the Battle Royale to Medusa and was forced to unmask, revealing former teen idol and multi-platinum recording artist Debbie Gibson. Panelist Jenny McCarthy correctly guessed the “Only in My Dreams” singer, but Robin Thicke, Ken Jeong and Nicole Scherzinger were off base.

“I said, ‘If anyone’s gonna get it, it’s gonna be Jenny,'” Debbie told host Nick Cannon during her unmasked interview. “Not to bring the tone down, but to keep it real, I lost my mom one year ago. It was the anniversary yesterday and I was flying back from New York. I was boarding the plane and my manager text and she goes, ‘Somebody might be sick...

Warning: Spoilers ahead for week 2 of “The Masked Singer”
For most contestants on “The Masked Singer,” there’s at least a week or two of prep for their first number on the show. But for Night Owl, it was a literal 24-hour turnaround.
The nocturnal creature — both literally and figuratively, she jokes — got to perform two numbers on Abba night. First, she performed “Fernando,” which earned her a spot in the Battle Royale against the returning Medusa. There, she sang “The Winner Takes It All,” but unfortunately, didn’t come out as the winner. So, Night Owl was unmasked to be none other that singer-songwriter Debbie Gibson.
And really, she was pleased with how she did, considering how quickly everything came together. Gibson was out on tour with Joey McIntyre getting ready to board her flight home when she got the call.

The Winner Takes It All: “The Masked Singer” paid tribute to Swedish super group Abba on Wednesday — and unmasked two 1980s icons in the process. Pop ingenue Debbie Gibson, who first hit it big in 1987 as a 17-year-old sensation who wrote and sang her own songs, was unmasked as the Night Owl, while comedian and “America’s Got Talent” judge Howie Mandel — who rose to recognition on the 1980s medical drama “St. Elsewhere” — was revealed to be the Rock Lobster.
Gibson was a last-minute addition to the episode after the celebrity who was originally set to appear had to exit after testing positive for Covid. With less than 24 hours to taping, Gibson agreed to step in.
