Karl Barbee(1954-2024)

Karl started his performing career over 45 years ago, primarily as a dancer, studying with dance luminaries in the US, France, the former Soviet Union, Italy, and Iceland. He performed for more than 20 years throughout North America and Europe before tiring of the NYC base from which he worked and moving west to "find something green." Landing in NEPA in the 1990s, he continued dancing, teaching, and choreographing. Later, expanded his endeavors to include more musical theater -- performing in, directing, and choreographing shows throughout the region. Favorite roles include The Monster in Young Frankenstein, both Herod and Caiaphas in Jesus Christ Superstar, Stephen/Jesus in Godspell, the Adult Man in Spring Awakening, Roger DeBris in The Producers, and Miss Trunchbull in Matilda. For the past 10 years, Karl explored the world of film acting, which he considered his medium of choice, performing credited roles in Eight feature-length films, numerous short films, and a web series.
