The streaming platform, which debuted in 2007, was originally developed as a service for watching recent episodes of traditionally broadcast series online. While this aspect of the platform's original intent remains to a certain degree, thanks to their partnership with FX, they have since begun to operate as a more typical streaming service, offering licensed movies and television shows alongside original programming. The platform is now owned by Disney and their library features a great deal of crossover with Disney+.

It wasn't until 2011 that Hulu original series began to debut on the platform, followed by original scripted shows in 2012. Over the years, they have debuted many shows that were both critical and commercial successes. Christmas just arrived a little early for fans of Tell Me Lies, which has been renewed for a third season at Hulu, TVLine has confirmed.

The pickup comes two months after Tell Me Lies‘ sophomore finale dropped on Oct. 16. An episode count for Season 3 has not been announced; Seasons 1 and 2 respectively spanned 10 and eight installments.

Executive producer Meaghan Oppenheimer will continue on as showrunner. Fun fact: Meaghan is married to Tom Ellis, who starred as Oliver in season 2.

“Tell Me Lies” will be back for another season at Hulu, and that’s the truth.

The soapy college-set drama series has been renewed for a third season, Hulu announced on Thursday, with showrunner and EP Meaghan Oppenheimer remaining at the helm.

First premiering in September 2022, “Tell Me Lies” tells the twisted love story between Lucy Albright (Grace Van Patten) and Stephen DeMarco (Jackson White), which extends years past their college graduation into another timeline eight years later. Season 2 picked up after their dramatic breakup at the end of summer and saw the pair fall into a new toxic dynamic as exes, while also following the relationship woes within their friend group.

The streamer has ordered a third season of Tell Me Lies, which follows the twisted/toxic romance between two people (Grace Van Patten and Jackson White) in their college and young adult years. The renewal comes about two months after season two ended on a cliffhanger. Meaghan Oppenheimer, who created the series based on Carola Lovering’s 2018 novel, will continue as showrunner.

Like most streamers, Hulu doesn’t release detailed viewing data about its programming. However, it notes that Tell Me Lies remained in the on-screen “Top 15 Today” list for more than 50 consecutive days during and after its season two run.

Hulu has handed a Season 3 renewal to Tell Me Lies, its popular drama series starring Grace Van Patten and Jackson White and produced by 20th Television. Additionally, Tell Me Lies creator, executive producer and showrunner Meaghan Oppenheimer has signed an overall deal with 20th TV, a part of Disney Television Studios.

The pickup comes a little over two months after the release of the Season 2 finale, which, just like the Season 1 closer, ended with a cliffhanger twist that threatens to tear the friend group apart.

The renewal was expected. Tell Me Lies stayed in the Hulu Top 15 for over 50 straight days throughout its Season 2 run. Popular with the younger crowd, the series’ social engagement increased 8X vs Season 1 over the same period, with total followers growing 4.3X.

A lot of bad stuff happens on the Hulu original series "Tell Me Lies" — helmed by Meagan Oppenheimer and adapted from Carola Lovering's hit novel — and one of the very worst things happens to Macy Campbell (Lily McInerny). A young woman who ends up caught in Stephen DeMarco's (Jackson White) orbit (which is largely troubling because Stephen is terrible to women) and who has a connection to the series protagonist Lucy Albright (Grace Van Patten) in both the book and show, Macy meets a terrible and tragic fate, and in both narratives, it ends up creating huge consequences for everyone.

"Tell Me Lies," which mostly focuses on the tortured relationship between Stephen and Lucy in the book but devotes plenty of time to the supporting characters on the Hulu show, is pretty dark, and the story of what happens to Macy is no exception.

The Tell Me Lies ending concludes with Stephen (Jackson White) shocking Lucy (Grace Van Patten) at two different points in time. Based on the novel by Carola Lovering, Tell Me Lies season 1 is mostly set in 2007-2008. This is during Lucy's freshman year at Baird College in New York while Stephen is a junior. The season is book-ended by Lucy and Stephen, who haven't seen each other in four years, attending the wedding of their friends, Bree (Catherine Missal) and Evan (Branden Cook) in 2015.

Let’s get this out of the way now. For anyone who read my review for Tell Me Lies Season 2 Episode 7, I had no idea someone was actually going to die!

I was as shocked as everyone else! There was so much that happened in this finale that it’s hard to keep track of who’s life is on fire and who’s isn’t.

Suffice it to say, Tell Me Lies Season 2 Episode 8 dropped nuclear bombs on the story. Not everyone is walking away unscathed.

Season 2 of “Tell Me Lies” came crashing to an end — in both the 2008 and the 2015 timelines. In an attempt to sum up everything that happened: Stephen (Jackson White) and Diana (Alicia Crowder) broke up — an idea she made him think was his doing, but she’d been planning all along to get him away. There was no sadness at all for Stephen, who immediately slept with Lucy (Grace Van Patten). Right after that hookup, Lucy went back to Leo (Thomas Doherty) and slept with him — without even changing her underwear. That tidbit came in hand for Stephen later when he brought up what she was wearing to prove to Leo they’d hooked up hours before and led to Leo punching him repeatedly until his face was unrecognizable.

After watching Jackson White’s Stephen torment Grace Van Patten’s Lucy all throughout the second season of “Tell Me Lies,” Stephen switches up his behavior at the end of Episode 7 in what White calls a “desperate” decision.

Reckoning with whether he’s a good person or not, Stephen turns his attention from Diana (Alicia Crowder) back to Lucy as he arrives at her dorm room and asks her candidly if she knew he was a bad person while they were dating — which she replies “yes” — and if, even still, she loved him then, which she also replies “yes.” He then confesses that he, too, despite knowing the worst things about Lucy, still loves her and makes a proposition for the pair to be together.

“It’s very desperate and guttural,” White told TheWrap of Stephen’s decision to go back to Lucy.

As “Tell Me Lies” hinges closer to its Season 2 finale, Episode 6 sees an explosive confrontation that star Grace Van Patten identifies as a “turning point” for Lucy — and Stephen.

With tensions already high during a snowed-in Thanksgiving, Stephen (Jackson White) tries his hardest to interrupt the carefree romance between Lucy (Van Patten) and Leo (Thomas Doherty), and eventually hits one of Lucy’s buttons when Stephen reveals Leo’s ex-girlfriend cheated on him with Stephen. Lucy lashes out at Stephen — and Diana (Alicia Crowder) via a drunken slap — which hits a switch for Leo.

Overwhelmed by the situation, Leo tells Lucy the dynamic reminds him of his strained childhood and breaks up with Lucy. Feeling ashamed of herself, Lucy doesn’t fight for their relationship, with Van Patten saying her character “knows she’s not capable of … reciprocating love.

They were the slaps heard around the world on Tell Me Lies Season 2 Episode 6! Do people actually play slap-shot? That seems like a surefire way to end some friendships!

Granted, most of these characters are already on shaky ground with each other. It seems like the writers wanted to find the most volatile way to ruin Thanksgiving.

Tell Me Lies is not pulling any punches, and neither is Lucy! This episode was supercharged with high-flying hormones and emotions to the max! It’s no wonder some of these characters are not doing great academically.

That said, the series excels at sucking viewers right into the squabbles and underhanded attempts to ruin lives and reputations. It’s a wonder that any of them showed up at Bree’s wedding in 2015.

Mama, the straights are not okay because these kids on Tell Me Lies are wildin’ out with Nick Cannon and have got me plucked! Listen, I am all about the drama, but these children are mess, mess, messy!

If you had told me a year ago that I would be this invested in a show about the most extra and dramatic college kids ever, I would’ve said you’d never catch me watching a single frame.

Well, we will call this growth something that the characters on Tell Me Lies desperately need. Even the adult characters who should know better seem just as childish. It is pettiness to the max, and I love it!

Stephen doesn’t waste any time gaslighting and twisting the knife in Lucy’s back when they get back to school. “I’m really sorry for hurting you so badly last year. I embarrassed you over and over again, and I’m sure that made you feel terrible about yourself,” Stephen says, his words laced with venom. Upon their return to college, however, Stephen’s taunting doesn’t help her case, as he approaches her with a public apology, admitting he embarrassed her “over and over again.” “I’m sure that made you feel terrible about yourself,” he tells Lucy in the trailer.

“You’re right — I am still mad,” she concedes later on.
