- He is partly Dutch of ancestry (the Netherlands) through his father Henk and uncle Jos van Aert, who is the cousin of his father. Or simplified: the fathers of Henk and Jos were brothers. The spelling of his surname ("van" in "van Aert" is without capital letter "V"), confirms his Dutch origins.
- Uncle Jos van Aert was a professional cyclist between 1988 and 1994. His uncle rode in the same team as Mathieu van der Poel's father Adrie and Remco Evenepoel's father Patrick at the Collstrop cycling team in 1994.

- As it turns out, I'm the best of all normal people. [Van Aert in July 2023, after finishing third in the stage results with the cycling world looking awestruck as Jonas Vingegaard and Tadej Pogacar had just relegated the peloton during the Tour de France time trial in Combloux, France]
- Well, it's the English spelling of Georges so that's not 100% right and I won't keep making babies forever. [Van Aert in August 2023, when asked whether the name of the finish line George Square like his oldest son's name and then whether the recent birth of his second son Jerome could give him wings at the UCI Road World Championships held in Glasgow, Scotland]
- It feels familiar with him Mathieu van der Poel at the start. Then you know that we'll meet in the final, especially in a cyclocross. When I beat Mathieu, my conclusion is usually that it's been a perfect race. Then all the puzzle pieces fit. [Van Aert in June 2023, respectful towards Mathieu van der Poel]
- I don't like the new color of the jersey. [Van Aert in June 2023, bantering about why he wouldn't be racing for the Tour de France points classification (the green jersey color changed), as he focused on stage wins and helping teammate Jonas Vingegaard win the general classification]
- Oh look, a canary just flew past us. [Van Aert in July 2024 as Tadej Pogacar and his UAE Team Emirates teammates, cheered on by the local crowd, pass him by on their bikes during a Van Aert interview with two Dutch journalists ahead of the official start of the 2024 Tour de France third stage in Piacenza, Italy]
