Oscar-winner Sir Mark Rylance will lead celebrations for Peace One Day's 20th anniversary at Shakespeare’s Globe on London’s Bankside this September.
The not-for-profit organisation, which has successfully led processes that have resulted in ceasefire in some of the world’s most hostile regions, began in 1999 at the Globe when Sir Mark was in post as its founding Artistic Director.
Peace One Day’s founder Jeremy Gilley had a vision of creating a day of ceasefire and non-violence with a fixed calendar date – Peace Day. The Un made this vision a reality in 2001 by unanimously declaring the 21st September to be the International Day of Peace. By last year over a billion people were aware of the day.
