- Actress
Dorothy Aiko Fujikawa was born in 1945 and she attended at The UCLA School of the Arts and Architecture at the University of California, Los Angeles, where she met keyboardist Ray Manzarek in 1962. He soon asked her out. Dorothy became his star and muse. Ray once said: "I met Dorothy Fujikawa in an art class. I thought she was so interesting I married her. We're still married."
In 1965 they were living together. Ray had met Jim Morrison at the same UCLA university. "There would be no Doors if it wasn't for Dorothy Fujikawa," he has said many times over the years. "She was the one who supported Jim and me as we put the band together."
While Ray was rehearsing with The Doors, Dorothy worked in the lab of a film company developing pictures, and supporting the struggling musicians.
They married at the Los Angeles courthouse, on December 21st, 1967 in presence of Ray's band-mate in The Doors Jim Morrison and his long-time girlfriend Pamela Courson.
Dorothy and Ray became parents of two sons, Pablo and Zia, and had three grandchildren before Ray's passing in 2013 aged 74.
