It’s been 12 years since “Greek” wrapped its run on ABC Family — which of course, is now Freeform — but the cast is still hoping to see a revival of the show someday. And yes, that includes Jake McDorman.
While on the red carpet for his new Peacock series “Mrs. Davis,” McDorman was quick to jump on board when TheWrap floated the idea of a revival series, enthusiastically noting that he and his former co-stars all still talk regularly.
“Yeah! I’m still friends with all those guys, we talk all the time,” McDorman said. “The guys, we all kind of live close — in fact, I think, I talked to Clark Duke earlier, I think he’s gonna be here — but me, Scott, Pj, Jacob Zachar, Clark, we’re all still super close, so I know we’d be down.”

It’s been more than three years since Freeform scrapped its plans for Greek: The Reunion, and star Jake McDorman (aka Evan Chambers) is still in the dark about why the network opted not to pledge the two-hour holiday movie, which would have found the gang returning to Cypress-Rhodes University for their five-year reunion.
The project was first announced in April 2016, but just over a year later in June 2017, Freeform quietly abandoned the mini-revival with no explanation. At the time, series creator Sean Smith told TVLine, “I delivered a script to Freeform in February that they seemed to love enough to want to move forward.

In 2016, Freeform announced at its upfront in New York plans to bring back the original alumni of the Cyprus-Rhodes University for Greek: The Reunion movie, set five years after the show ended, which was expected to air during the holiday frame.
The cast and executive producers reunited at the Atx Television Festival, and of course were asked Friday whether the reunion was still happening.
While there is still no word on when or if the special would take place, creator and executive producer Patrick Sean Smith told festival goers that “there was a script that was written for the reunion. I hope we get to do a reunion at some point with somebody who wants to do it.”
Without going far into detail about what the hold is, Smith shared a storyline he planned to explore in the update.

Gunpowder & Sky has partnered with Zelda Williams to develop her short film Shrimp, which premiered this year at the Tribeca TV Festival, into a weekly half-hour series.
Written, directed, produced by and starring Williams, who is Robin Williams’ daughter, the show will chronicle the lives of people who work and play in a Los Angeles bondage discipline sadism and masochism (BDSM) dens. The series will also star Conor Leslie (“The Man in the High Castle”), Paulina Singer (“Dead of Summer”), Frances Fisher (“The Edge of Night”), Jake Abel (“Supernatural”), Jacob Zachar (“Greek”), and Danielle Campbell (“StarStruck”).
“We were really drawn to ‘Shrimp’ because Zelda was able to take a generally taboo topic, turn it on its head and tap into the day-to-day happenings of the dominatrix community and tell their story in an authentic way,” said Van Toffler, CEO of Gunpowder & Sky. “At Gunpowder & Sky, we’re constantly looking...

First time feature director David Yarovesky blends equal parts contagion film, psychological drama, and teen romance into a horror film with a lot on its mind. Maybe too much on its mind for some people, but all of the elements hit the right notes for me. The Hive isn’t breaking any new ground with its ideas, but it is how the ideas are delivered that makes this worth a watch for fans of infection films. Yarovesky’s art direction and visual sense is particularly strong. His history in music video directing is fairly apparent but doesn’t hinder his aspirations to deliver an emotional and meaningful character driven story. Yes… black goo and grisly gore leave the screen caked in a thick, viscous layer, but the setup leading up to the gory bits has all the heart and character that you’d expect from a coming-of-age comedy.

First-time writer/director Alex Craig Mann has combined The Breakfast Club with Dawn of the Dead for a different kind of zombie movie. Detention of the Dead is a high school zombie horror-comedy which follows a group of teenagers stuck in detention who are forced to work together when zombies invade their school. All the typical high school archetypes are present including Eddie (Jacob Zachar), a nerd in love with the head cheerleader Janet (Christa B. Allen); Brad (Jayson Blair), Janet's boyfriend and the most popular guy in school; Jimmy (Max Adler), a meathead and Brad's best friend; Willow (Alexa Nikolas), the goth girl in love with Eddie; and Ash (Justin Chon), the school stoner and local drug dealer. After barricading themselves inside the library, they start to talk about why they were in detention, confess their true feelings about each other, and bond while smoking a blunt together.

Director: Alex Craig Mann. Writers: Alex Craig Mann and Rob Rinow. Cast: Jacob Zachar, Alexa Nikolas, Christa B. Allen, Jayson Blair, Justin Chon, Max Adler, Joseph Porter and Michele Messmer. Detention of the Dead is a throwback to films of the '80s. The Breakfast Club (1985) is especially influential in director Alex Craig Mann's first film. The characters are cliches and the zombies are far from terrifying. Instead, Detention of the Dead relies on some silly comedy and high school drama to keep the film's story interesting. But, this story might not be compelling for most film fans. The film is set in Lincoln High School. Here, a zombie virus is ravaging the school's halls and classrooms. The stereotypical: jock (Jayson Blair), cheerleader (Christa B. Allen), nerd (Jacob Zachar), stoner (Justin Chon), goth girl (Alexa Nikolas) and jock #2 must battle their way to the library, because students never go there.

Do you remember all the typical garbage you had to deal with in high school? You had to wear the right clothes, hang out with the right crowd, and get all your homework done so you could pass. All those seem hard enough to handle. Now add to your laundry list of things to do "Escape from my fellow students who have turned into zombies." High School was bad enough before. Imagine having to attend Detention of the Dead.
A nerd, a jock, a cheerleader, a bully, a goth, and a stoner are stuck together in detention. Sounds familiar, doesn't it? It's just a typical afternoon in high school until ravenous zombies overtake the hallways. Now the motley crew of teens must put aside their differences in order to survive a terrifying night of the walking dead.

“See Mom? You can’t be too mad at me for going to detention, it could possibly save me from the zombie apocalypse!” said every troublemaking kid who caught Alex Craig Mann’s newest zom-com, Detention Of The Dead. Playing in a much simpler fashion than last year’s Detention, Mann’s film (which is based on a play by Rob Rinow) feels like a cross between an 80s style high school dramedy and some good old self-aware zombie horror. Basically, if George A. Romero and John Hughes did the nasty, Mann’s film would be the demented product. And yes, I know how babies are made, but that’s just a hypothetical – you get what I’m saying here.

At the heart of a lot of John Hughes’ most popular movies from the 1980s, there was, broadly speaking, tension between an uptight geek and a jock or more extroverted guy. Jacob Zachar (“Greek”) and Jayson Blair (“The New Normal”) occupy those roles in Alex Craig Mann’s directorial debut, “Detention of the Dead.” Oh… except the movie also features zombies, in addition to a handful of other at-odds high school archetypes. For ShockYa, Brent Simon recently had a chance to speak to the actors in person, about their experience making the movie, Blair’s most awkward audition experience, and more. Their conversation is excerpted below: ShockYa: I was surprised to learn [ Read More ]

When Brad Pitt, as a producer-star, tackled the sprawling movie adaptation of Max Brooks’ zombie novel “World War Z,” there was a lot of talk about the zombie genre having reached its apex, and possibly being tapped out. On the other end of the budgetary spectrum, though, is something like debut director Alex Craig Mann’s “Detention of the Dead,” which shows that zombie movies are, pardon the pun, unlikely to die off anytime soon. A high school-set horror comedy — think John Hughes meets “Shaun of the Dead” — the film stars Jacob Zachar, Jayson Blair, Christa Allen, Justin Chon and others in a tale of mismatched teens who have [ Read More ]

There are few staples in the horror genre than have endured, and been reinvented as often, as the zombie. Since George A. Romero's groundbreaking "Night Of The Living Dead," the undead have been through many different cinematic iterations and this year alone, we've seen them fall in love ("Warm Bodies") and nearly take over the entire planet as a plague (this weekend's "World War Z"). Well, another entry to the canon is here and is taking the brain-eaters somewhere else -- high school. From director Alex Craig Mann comes the horror/comedy "Detention Of The Dead," and the title should tell you all you need to know. Starring Jacob Zachar ("Greek"), Alexa Nikolas ("The Walking Dead"), Christa B. Allen ("Revenge"), Jayson Blair ("The New Normal"), Justin Chon ("21 and Over") and Max Adler ("Glee"), the story finds a ragtag bunch of teens trapped in detention and trying to figure how...

Ah FrightFest how I love thee. Yes, my annual excursion to Scotland for Glasgow FrightFest continues this year, and I couldn’t be happier! This years line-up is strong, Very strong, with plenty of variety and some great film picks by Alan, Ian, Paul and Greg. Plus the appearance of Norwegian drama Hellsfjord! Of all the films showing this year there’s one that I most excited to see – Detention of the Dead… I’ve tried my hardest to cover the film as much as possible over the past year as it looks like my “cup of tea”, so for it to show at FrightFest is awesome (although to be fair I already knew that was in the line-up). However the real big surprise is the appearance of Neil Jordan’s Byzantium in the line-up – the Scottish crowd is notoriously “blood-thirtsy” so I hope Jordan’s film isn’t too sedate for the Glasgow crowd.

Tagline: "When there is no room in hell, the dead go to detention!" Alex Craig Mann's Detention of the Dead will be shambling your way this Spring! This horror comedy is set for a major release. And, the film tells a tale of high schoolers, zombies and teachers turning very ripe. This is Mann's first feature film as director and more details on the release will be announced shortly. As well, the official film poster for the release is hosted here. The film pays homage to The Breakfast Club and Shaun of the Dead. Some of these influences can be seen in the graphic's characters. This month the highly-anticipated sitcom Partners premiered, with Michael Urie and David Krumholtz playing best friends and business partners inspired by the real-life friendship between Will & Grace creators Max Mutchnik and David Kohan. The big deal is, of course, that these two guys are best friends despite one’s being straight and the other’s being gay. I know – Can You Imagine?!?!
Yes, we can. Though our entertainments tend to like to plop us gay guys at the ladies' table, many of us have wonderfully rich relationships with straight men, sexualities be damned. And while Partners may be the highest-profile project that specifically tackles the topic of "bro/'mos" (Patent Pending), over the years there have been some great movies and shows that have featured best buds who bat for different teams. Here are a few of our faves.

Prometheus (20th Century Fox) Ridley Scott’s quasi-prequel to his 1979 classic “Alien” has an intergalactic exploratory team (Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Guy Pearce, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba) arriving on a uncharted planet, where they discover what appears to be a dormant alien spacecraft and what might be the first discovery of intelligent life outside of Earth. Of course, everything goes straight to hell before you can scream “Don’t touch that egg!” Sumptuous visuals and strong performances from the cast (not to mention a nearly-perfect first half) can’t compensate for gaping plot and logic holes that nearly sink the proceedings in the film’s protracted second half. It feels as though some very crucial footage wound up on the cutting room floor. Perhaps, as with “Alien” and “Aliens” we’ll see a “Director’s Cut” of “Prometheus” arriving on DVD within the next year. In the meantime,...

Title: Drunkboat Director: Bob Meyer Starring: John Malkovich, John Goodman, Dana Delaney, Jim Ortlieb, Jacob Zachar It’s perhaps something of a nautically-titled coincidence, the meandering nature and theatrical roots that “Drunkboat” share with “Jack Goes Boating,” Philip Seymour Hoffman’s 2010 directorial debut. But both movies represent personal passion projects ill suited to cinematic adaptation, or at least sludgy, unresolved, mannered and grating in their realized incarnations. “Drunkboat” centers around a down-and-out Vietnam veteran and drunkard, Mort (John Malkovich), who has an epiphany of sorts when he glimpses a relative while in a stupor. He subsequently returns to his childhood home in the Chicago suburbs, where his sister Eileen (Dana Delaney) still lives with her [ Read More ]...
