After years of anticipation, Bethesda’s Starfield debuted in 2024. The gigantic-space RPG was the company’s first new intellectual property in 25 years, and a lot is going behind it to be something special. Upon its release, the game was met with a positive reception, but that reaction didn’t last long as players felt the game lacked a soul.

Todd Howard and his team didn’t give up on the space RPG, though. In the last year, the team has brought various updates and even a full-fledged Dlc for the game. However, amidst all that, I would like to ask where Starfield‘s “handcrafted planets” were supposed to give it an edge over Fallout and Skyrim.

Life has taken a downward series of turns for Richard Garriott, the legendary game developer behind Ultima 7. His groundbreaking design philosophy and intricate world-building inspired generations of developers, including Bethesda’s Todd Howard, who counts Ultima 7 as his favorite game. But his legacy has been overshadowed by recent events.

The mishandling of the Kickstarter-funded Shroud of the Avatar and a failed blockchain Mmo project have tarnished his reputation. Earlier this year Garriott suggested on social media that he might reacquire Ultima Online back from Electronic Arts. But can Garriott restore his legacy, or has his time passed?

Microsoft’s Xbox division was under no pressure to turn its video game franchise “Fallout” into a TV series. That’s one of the main reasons why the adaptation that premiered earlier this year on Amazon Prime Video has worked well for viewers and for dedicated fans of the game.
Phil Spencer, CEO of Microsoft Gaming, and Jonah Nolan, executive producer and showrunner of the “Fallout” TV series, gave the backstory of how the TV series came to be during a discussion this week held as part of the Paley Center for Media’s International Council Summit in New York. Spencer and Nolan discussed the growing convergence of gaming IP with TV, film and other forms of media.

Earlier this year, Prime Video debuts the first season of Fallout, a new science fiction show based on the long-running video game series from Bethesda Softworks. Fallout was one of the rare game adaptations to break into the mainstream, resonating with gamer fans as well as new viewers who enjoyed its quirky take on the post-apocalypse. Amazon was quick to renew it for a second season, which is currently filming in Lost Angeles, California.
The first season of Fallout had a split narrative: on the one hand, we saw characters like Lucy (Ella Purnell) and the Ghoul (Walton Goggins) roam the Wasteland, contending with mutated creatures, raiders, radiation and other dangers. On the other, we saw the Ghoul's past, back when he was an actor named Cooper Howard in the days before the bombs dropped. Those two storylines wove together in some shocking ways by the end of the season,...

The Prime Video TV series adaptation of the popular Fallout video game franchise already had a second season in the works before the first season even started streaming – which turned out to be a good move, because Fallout quickly became Prime Video’s second most-watched title (after The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power), drawing in 65 million viewers in its first 16 days of release. Prime Video’s “Fallout” didn’t forget Macaulay Culkin. The “Home Alone” star has booked a recurring role in Season 2 of the Emmy-nominated drama, Variety has confirmed. There are no details yet to Culkin’s character on the series, but Deadline, which broke the news, wrote that it will be a “crazy genius type.”

Culkin’s recent credits include providing a voice on “The Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy,” as well as multiple episodes of “The Righteous Gemstones” and as part of the cast of “American Horror Story: Double Feature.

Among all the features, one of the standout features of The Veilguard is its companion system, which allows players to meet a diverse group of characters, each with their own personal stories and abilities. These companions can join the protagonist on their journey. While there are seven companions available to meet in the game, recent discoveries have revealed that there were even more potential companions who didn’t make it into the final version.

Creating believable, engaging characters has always been one of the toughest challenges in game development, according to Bethesda’s Todd Howard. This often affects some of the studio’s biggest titles, including Starfield and Skyrim. While both games offer worlds filled with deep lore and systems, fans notice that they lack compelling characters.

These games have been exceptional in graphics, exploration, and storytelling. But players often feel disconnected from the NPCs (non-playable characters), who, while functional, frequently lack depth. This aspect remains a notable gap as modern games try to balance characters and visuals.
Todd Howard’s View On Character Design is Absolutely Correct
When Skyrim launched in 2011, it quickly became a cultural phenomenon, known for its expansive world and endless exploration. However, players soon noticed that the game’s NPCs were somewhat lifeless. This has hardly been a big issue for the game and hasn’t affected its success,...

There’s no denying the fact that the live-action TV adaptation of Fallout was a massive success for Amazon Prime Video and Bethesda. The series managed to get over 65 million viewers in just 16 days and was even nominated for the Emmy in categories such as Best Drama Series, Best Lead Actor for Walton Goggins, and much more.

However, the same can’t be said for Paramount’s Halo show. The adaptation of Microsoft’s flagship shooter failed to set the world on fire. Many felt that its failure could be attributed to a lack of a compelling story or not sticking to the franchise’s canon material. However, Bethesda’s boss, Todd Howard, has finally figured out why the Halo show was a massive bust.

In the world of video game development and subsequent live-action adaptations, waiting has become an art form. Todd Howard’s The Elder Scrolls 6 has been teasing fans since 2018, making gamers wonder if the game is more mythical than Skyrim’s dragons.

In the world of reality television, certain unscripted moments manage to shock and capture the audience completely off guard. Such was the case of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star Taylor Frankie Paul. The show focuses on the day-to-day lives of eight Utah-based TikTok influencers dubbed “MomTok.”

While initially these were just videos and garnered millions of likes and comments, one revelation by Frankie Paul was enough to bring this fame crashing down. This would definitely be one of many controversies that she’s had over the years, not to forget her domestic violence case.
While this surely made headlines, it’s nothing compared to the worst scandal on reality television that proved fatal for one.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard debuted on October 31st after almost a decade of development. Many doubted BioWare’s ability to bring another worthy entry into the franchise since the studio’s last couple of projects have been a massive disaster.

To this day, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim remains an experience that only a selected few in the industry can compete with. Thanks to its dedicated modding community, Skyrim has managed to stay relevant and modernized, and it’s incredible to see what the gamers have managed to do with the game. It’s easy to forget that Bethesda ended the official support years ago.

It’s been more than half a decade since Todd Howard first dropped the teaser for The Elder Scrolls 6 on us all, and since then, all we’ve been left with is nothing but dust and a space-faring game that, for some, just doesn’t scratch that high fantasy itch.

It shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone that Starfield’s launch and subsequent updates have been a colossal disappointment. With this title, people expected Bethesda to be at its most transformative, but in the end, they found themselves met with all-too-familiar mechanics and ambitious but unfulfilled promises.

In what sounds like overly optimistic self-praise, however, it seems that some at Bethesda continue to believe that this title represents the studio’s most innovative work yet, claiming that it’s a fresh IP separate from all previous titles. If we’re being honest, these claims seem a little too far-fetched.

MachineGames’ next big project, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, is all set to release later this year. The game has been in production for quite some time now but the reveal at Microsoft Gaming’s Xbox Developer_Direct earlier this year created a lot of hype for the game. The game is being developed by MachineGames, with Todd Howard serving as executive producer through Bethesda.

Todd Howard always wanted to create an Indiana Jones game. In 2009, the prolific director of titles like Fallout 3 came close, pitching an Indiana Jones game to LucasArts, the video game subsidiary arm of Lucasfilm. However, the collaboration didn’t end up happening. At the time, Howard and the developers at Bethesda Game Studios were riding high on the critical and commercial successes of 2002’s The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind and 2006’s The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, but even so, Indy remained out of reach for the team.

When you talk about RPG titles, then you can never go past Bethesda. This American video game developing company has surfaced probably one of the best RPG titles of all time, for example: The Elder Scrolls, Fallout, and Starfield. Be it enormous exploration areas, stunning visuals, or captivating gameplay, these games have always garnered huge fanbases for this reason.

One of the major complaints against these RPGs is their massive playtime. You will need around 40 hours to complete the main storyline of Starfield. On the other hand, Skyrim takes a staggering 109 hours to complete the main storyline along with the side quests. However, there was a title that was released 5 years ago that beat all of these RPGs in terms of quality, and it never needed 100 hours of gameplay.

Bethesda’s and Todd Howard’s lineup of popular franchises like Fallout, Starfield, and the elusive Elder Scrolls 6 need a lot of focus and resources. But the shadow cast by these titles could block other fan-favorite series’ like Dishonored from ever seeing the light of day.

Despite previous rumors of a Dishonored 3, the recent closure of Arkane Austin, the primary studio behind the original games, casts doubt on its release. Fallout fans had a lot to digest during Fallout Day 2024, but one particular announcement for Fallout 76 raised eyebrows. While the game has certainly improved over the years, the introduction of the new four-player co-op mode feels very similar to the Space Marine 2 and Helldivers 2 formula.

In the grim darkness of the far future, there is only war… and apparently, some savage burns from game developers. Tim Willits, the Chief Creative Officer at Saber Interactive, recently took a not-so-subtle jab at Bethesda’s infamous horse armor Dlc while discussing the monetization strategy for Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2.
And let’s just say, the Emperor himself would be proud of this verbal Exterminatus.

With Space Marine 2 now out in the wild for over a month, players have had ample time to dive into the game’s gory, Tyranid-slaying action. But while the recent 4.0 patch has stirred up some controversy among the fanbase, one aspect of the game that has garnered near-universal praise is its refreshingly straightforward approach to microtransactions.

Since its inception in 1997, the Fallout series has been a popular video game franchise around the world. After Interplay and Black Isle, Bethesda took over the franchise and gave fans some exceptional Fallout video games. Fans have been waiting for nearly a decade now for the next Fallout game, but Bethesda gave fans the same Fallout experience, just in the form of a TV series.

With the help of Todd Howard, the mastermind behind the Fallout and The Elder Scrolls series, a series that was canonical to the Fallout games was released in April 2024. The show was a massive success and it’s safe to say that Howard’s approach was what made it special. On several occasions, he has explained that he treated the series like another entry in the video game series.

However, if Bethesda and Todd Howard truly want the next Elder Scrolls game to be yet another generational hit, they must take a look at the fan-favorite Skyrim mod that introduces us to AI-powered NPCs.

However, there’s a game that’s setting new standards: No Man’s Sky. Debuting all the way back in 2015, it was quite a disaster at the launch. However, developer Hello Games didn’t give up and continued evolving the game. Today, it’s arguably one of the best bang for your buck as it’s all set to get another expedition, The Cursed, which plans to shake things from the ground up.
