On the JoBlo Movies YouTube channel, we will be posting one full movie every day of the week, giving viewers the chance to watch them entirely free of charge. Today’s Free Movie of the Day is a sci-fi thriller with a dose of comedy and a knock-off Freddy Krueger-type running around to bring some attempts at scares along the way. The movie is called Portal Runner, and no, it doesn’t have anything to do with the 2001 video game of the same title.
Coming to us from director Cornelia Duryée, who was working from a script crafted by her assistant J.D. Henning and her son Tallis Moore, Portal Runner tells the following story:
15 year old Nolan is blessed with the ability to travel to parallel worlds– and cursed to be chased through them by a monstrous Evil. When he gets stuck in a parallel world, with a sister he’s never met,...

Jumping straight into the action from the first second, Portal Runner introduces us to a 15 year old boy, Nolan, who has the ability to travel through parallel worlds with the use of mirrors. Unfortunately for him, there is an evil being chasing through these worlds, and when he gets stuck in a world with a sister he has never met, he must convince her to help him and the rest of their family.
There have obviously been sci-fi movies that involve travelling through parallel worlds and universes but I can’t say I have personally seen that many of them and maybe that’s part of the reason that Portal Runner felt highly original to me. I have said previously that...

"What's with you and all these mirrors?" Terror Films has released an official trailer for a sci-fi adventure family film titled Portal Runner, formerly known as Alter-nate, about a teenager who discovers a secret family legacy and a portal than enables him to travel to parallel worlds. If only this could live up to that potential! Nolan is a boy on the run through parallel worlds, trying to stay one step ahead of a monstrous evil that destroyed his family. But, when he winds up stuck in a world with a furious older sister he's never met before, he realizes she may be the key to defeating his adversary. Why does this sound like the plot of a "Rick & Morty" episode? Starring Sloane Morgan Siegel as Nolan, with Carol Roscoe, Brian S. Lewis, Denny McAuliffe, & Elise Eberle. Big concept with a tiny budget, it looks like an only-on-vhs cult fave.

Random Media has acquired two new titles for release in Summer 2015: "Camilla Dickinson" and "The Jokesters." Directed by Cornelia Duryée Moore, "Camilla Dickinson" is an adaptation of Madeleine L'Engle's classic novel about the daughter of a wealthy family in 1948 Manhattan. Fifteen-year-old Camilla (Adelaide Clemens) lives a privileged life in New York City until her parents' marriage grows increasingly rocky. Camilla finds a way to take her mind off things when she meets Frank, her best friend's rebellious brother (Gregg Sulkin). Frank shows Camilla a world outside of her sheltered bubble, and she slowly begins to grow up. Supporting cast includes Cary Elwes, Samantha Mathis, Margaret Colin, Camryn Manheim and Robert Picardo. Random Media has also acquired Aj Wedding's "The Jokesters," which has been a hit on the horror festival circuit. When Ethan, leader of the internet sensation "The Prankmasters," announces he is...

Fouad Mikati, director of the cartoonish action flick Operation: Endgame is switching up genres for his second film, the psychological thriller Return to Sender. Having just Rosamund Pike and Nick Noltecast its lead roles last week, the film is already in production in New Orleans. Because a movie with only two people in it usually isn.t fun, the rest of the cast was filled out today, according to The Hollywood Reporter, and Camryn Manheim, Rumer Willis and Illeana Douglas are all set to join Rosamund Pike, Shiloh Fernandez and Nick Nolte for the film. Manheim is of course known for her man years on the series The Practice and Ghost Whisperer and her last feature role was in Cornelia Moore.s adaptation of the novel Camilla Dickinson. Willis is probably best known for starring with her father Bruce in 2005.s balls-out thriller Hostage, and you can catch her in...

Review by Dana Jung
Newberry and National Book Award- winning author Madeleine L’Engle (1918 – 2007) will always be remembered in the world of juvenile fiction. As the creator of A Wrinkle In Time and its various sequels, L’Engle established herself for decades as a unique and prolific favorite of younger readers. Based on one of her earlier and more semi-autobiographical novels, the new film Camilla Dickinson is a coming-of-age story that reflects the special quality that made L’Engle so appealing: a memorable heroine.
Camilla is a shy, intelligent, and quietly sensitive teen attending private school in New York, circa 1950. The film opens on her troubled face as she sits outside her home, waiting. The reason for her hesitation
soon becomes clear as she finally enters to find her mother alone with a male friend. After some awkward moments, Camilla’s father arrives to compound the uncomfortable situation. Thus begins...

Madeleine L'Engle is most famous as the author of A Wrinkle in Time an d a series of other books surrounding the clever Murry family and their adventures across time and the universe. But she wrote dozens of young adult novels that are lesser known, and now one of them, Camilla Dickinson, will have its chance to go up on the big screen. According to THR, Adelaide Clemens, Gregg Sulkin, Cary Elwes and Samantha Mathis have been set to star in the film, which will be directed by first-timer Cornelia Moore. Clemens, seen briefly in X-Men Origins: Wolverine and on a recent episode of Lie to Me, stars as a young girl whose parents (Elwes and Mathis) vie for her attention during their divorce. In the midst of all that turmoil she develops a friendship with Frank (Sulkin, of Wizards of Waverly Place), her best friend's older brother and something...

The dashing Wizards of Waverly Place star Gregg Sulkin ("dashing" is like "charming," but for Brits), who continues his run at Disney with this weekend's TV movie Avalon High, has signed on to star in Camilla Dickerson, an adaptation of the 1951 Madeline L'Engle ("A Wrinkle in Time") book. Australian actress Adelaide Clemens will play the title role, a teen whose parents are splitting up and trying to win over her affection. Aggravated by the whole mess, she turns to a rebellious boy (Sulkin) whose parents are also divorced. Cary Elwes (The Princess Bride) and Samantha Mathis (Super Mario Brothers) will play Mr. and Mrs. Dickerson. Writer-director Cornelia Moore begins filming in Spokane, Washington next week.

Warning - This post contains major spoilers!
My absolute favorite film genre is the zombie movie (along with French new wave and rip-n-strip wrestling) and I think I've seen every single zombie or zombie-related movie ever made, including the Italian classics, low-budget independents, and of course the entire series from zombie God George Romero (the original Dawn of the Dead is the greatest horror film ever made.)
I've even seen Emmanuelle on Zombie Island ... soft and hardcore versions.
My point is that I thought there was nothing a zombie movie could do to surprise me ... until I saw Zombies of Mass Destruction.
Zmd is guilty of the usual low-budget zombie film offenses - bad (sometimes horrendous) acting and an uneasy mix of horror and comedy (which Shaun of the Dead did perfectly, but is a tricky proposition). But it has something no other zombie film has ever given us - gay heroes.
