Amelia Mulkey grew up in Venice Beach, California, the daughter of actors Chris Mulkey and Karen Landry.
Mulkey studied Art History at Loyola Marymount University and minored in Theater and Fine Arts. She began acting after college but quickly realized she preferred directing. Her film school was more of a practicum, learning on the job as a producing director's assistant on Saving Grace, Army Wives, and Lie To Me. During this time, she studied at UCLA and directed her first short film, The Unicorn Girl. Mulkey also started directing theatre earning Ovation an LA stage awards.
Mulkey fell for Aubrey Anderson, and they moved to San Francisco. There, she founded the Clock Factory, a Bay Area-based production company where she wrote and directed music videos, short films, and commercials for clients like Google, Apple, and Firefox. She has also directed three award winning dance films with her sister Elizabeth Mulkey.
After having children, Mulkey moved back to Los Angeles and transitioned into narrative directing. She lives in Topanga Canyon and is working on her first feature, Floating, set to shoot in 2025.
