Presented by Deadhouse Films, The 10th annual A Night of Horror International Film Festival, and Fantastic Planet: Sydney Sci-Fi and Fantasy Film Festival, screen simultaneously at Dendy Cinemas Newtown from November 24 to December 4, 2016. Says festival director Dean Bertram:

The 10th annual festival is going to be our biggest event yet. Featuring over 100 films, several international filmmaker guests, multiple parties and a horror filmmaking master class; Sydney’s genre fans and filmmaking community are going to be treated to eleven days of the best and freshest horror, sci-fi, and fantasy from around the globe.

The festival opens on Thursday November 24, with the Australian premiere of the international festival hit Peelers, plus a Q&A with special international guest: Canadian director Sevé Schelenz. And in keeping with the spirit of the bloody hilarious film, the screening will be followed by a “zombie and strippers” themed after party.

London-based genre festival to feature 19 world premieres and 35 UK & European premieres.

Horror Channel FrightFest has unveiled the line-up for its upcoming 17th edition, taking place at its new home of the Vue Shepherd’s Bush from Aug 25-29.

Sean Brosnan’s revenge thriller My Father Die [pictured] receives its European premiere as the opening film, while the UK premiere of Sang-ho Yeon’s Cannes title Train To Busan closes this year’s festival.

In total, the 62-strong feature line-up includes 19 world premieres and 35 UK & European premieres. Ivan Silvestrini’s Monolith, Tricia Lee’s creepy chiller Blood Hunters and Nick Jongerius’ gory The Windmill Massacre are among the world premieres.

Meanwhile, Adam Wingard’s eagerly anticipated The Woods will receive its European premiere in the Main Screen strand, playing alongside the likes of Stephen King adaptation Cell, Italian box office hit They Call Me Jeeg Robot and Cody Calahan’s Let Her Out.

Another horror film is coming this way via Russia. The film is loosely titled The Route is Built (Маршрут построен). From director Oleg Asadulin, the film tells the story of a travelling family. Recently purchased, their new car has a long, bloody history. The film's first trailer has premiered at Twitch Films and the film will launch in Russia, in 2016. To develop the story further, a husband has recently purchased a used car, at a very cheap price. But, this car was used by its former owner to hide a body. Now, the spirit of that body will not rest, until its fate has been discovered. The trailer for The Route is Built is a good one. Mostly shot at night, the film hosts an assortment of dire scenarios and situations, in darkened locations. The trailer also hosts lots of actions shots as the family travels down long highways. There are several intriguing movies coming out of Russian these days, and Oleg Assadulin’s “Phobos” looks to be one them. That being said, I am a little skeptical. From the looks of the latest trailer, the film appears to be your typical “teens lost in creepy tunnels” flick, not unlike Igor Shavlak’s terrible 2007 slasher “Trackman”. However, there’s a creepy vibe running throughout “Phobos” that I was hadn’t anticipated, which leads me to believe that I’m unfairly comparing this film to its like-minded counterpart. After all, “The Descent” is certainly not “The Cave”. Hopefully that makes sense. If not, I sincerely hope you get over it. A Russian language horror film, Phobos now has a movie poster and trailer for viewing. The film was made for approximately three million through Art Pictures Media and most of the picture takes place in an isolated underground bunker. The characters, played by Pyotr Fyodorov, Renata Piotrovski, and Agnia Kuznetsova, must face their own fears or be trapped hundreds of feet below the earth - forever. The plot for Phobos also involves the supernatural, hauntings, and a clash of personalities in a short eighty-seven minute runtime.
