Ben Stiller’s Zoolander is an infinitely quotable cult classic among comedy aficionadoes, and a sequel should have been easier to pull off than turning left. Still, the film failed epically, creating a reckoning for Stiller. Speaking with David Duchovny on the actor’s Fail Better podcast, Stiller says he was “blindsided” by the box office bombing of Zoolander 2 after thinking it would surprise fans more than David Bowie’s cameo in the original film.
“I thought everybody wanted this,” Stiller said about the sequel to his 2001 meme-worthy comedy. “And then it’s like, ‘Wow, I must have really f—ed this up. Everybody didn’t go to it. And it’s gotten these horrible reviews.”
“It really freaked me out because I was like, ‘I didn’t know it was that bad?’ ” Stiller continued. “What scared me the most on that one was I’m losing what I think what’s funny,...

This article contains casting spoilers for all eight episodes of Fallout.
The Fallout gaming franchise presents a big storytelling universe to play in. And that’s exactly what drew showrunners Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Graham Wagner to the Prime Video TV adaptation in the first place.
“It’s more creatively interesting to be able to build our own story in the world that they’ve carved out for us,” Wagner told Den of Geek. “That’s historically been the trajectory of Fallout. It’s traded hands many times, with different creative teams taking it over. It’s kept it fresh, kept it relevant. We chose to just vainly look at this as our Fallout.”
Of course, a big storytelling universe also requires a big cast to fill it up. Prime Video’s Fallout isn’t wanting for compelling lead characters thanks to Lucy MacLean (Ella Purnell), Maximus (Aaron Moten), and The Ghoul...

Revolving around two things many of us know all too well, neighbours from hell and writer’s block, Destroy All Neighbors is an over-the-top exercise in splatstick from director Josh Forbes and writers Mike Benner, Jared Logan and Charles A. Pieper.
William Brown makes his living as a sound engineer at Industrial Sound & Magic, helping to bring other people’s music to life. Currently, it’s the obnoxious Caleb Bang Jansen, “Emerson, Lake and Palmer? It sounds like Emerson getting buttfucked by Lake and Palmer.”
But when it comes to his own Prog Rock album, he’s stuck in a rut. While his girlfriend Emily believes in him, everyone else around him seems to exist only to stifle his efforts.

Bob and I started spending more time in Detroit, his hometown. We had our big family wedding there, where Bob Seger and Hank Williams Jr. sang for us. Our life in Detroit was full of music. I took for granted all those nights with Hank, Zz Top, Uncle Kracker, Eminem, and Bob’s band. To be around such talent was inspiring. It was a true rock-and-roll lifestyle, gritty and soulful. Detroit had an energy all its own.

When buyers arrived at the 1987 edition of the American Film Market, one film was high on their shopping list: Platoon, writer-director Oliver Stone’s foray into the Vietnam War.
The film had taken years to reach the screen. Stone began the screenplay in the mid-’70s but could find no takers, although it did earn him a job penning the 1978 Turkish prison drama Midnight Express, for which he won his first Oscar. Eventually, Stone struck a deal with producer Dino De Laurentiis, agreeing to write the screenplay for Michael Cimino’s crime movie Year of the Dragon for less than his market rate if De Laurentiis would secure financing for him to direct Platoon. But when the veteran producer couldn’t find a distributor, John Daly of the British production company Helmdale came up with financing for the films Salvador and Platoon and signed Stone to direct both.

Watching an episode of "Curb Your Enthusiasm" is kind of like meeting someone new for the first time: It's awkward as hell. Larry David, the show's creator (of "Seinfeld" fame) and main character, is a master of the neurotic. On the show, he plays an embellished version of himself who is constantly getting into petty tiffs with the show's rotating cast of characters, guest stars (including Ted Danson as perhaps one of the best frenemies TV has ever seen) who often play souped-up versions of themselves, as well. But what makes "Curb" and its actors so impressive is that the script for each episode is sparse — usually consisting of nothing more than a general plot outline without actual lines — leaving it up to the actors to decide exactly what their characters are going to say and do.

Canadian director Mary Harron’s Daliland opens with grainy footage from a 1957 appearance by the Spanish surrealist artist Salvador Dali on the popular American game show What’s My Line?
Dali is a mystery guest and blindfolded panelists pose yes-or-no questions to help identify his work as a famed artist. As the guessing game starts, a mischievous Dali answers “yes” to virtually every question.
“Are you a leading man?” panelist Arlene Francis asks at one point. “Yes,” Dali answers, causing confusion among the studio audience and forcing the show’s host, John Daly, to overrule the artist and answer no.
And when asked if Dali is involved in any way with sports, he answers, yet again, “yes,” forcing Daly to call that answer “misleading.” But what does it matter, in today’s world of fake news and digital avatars, that the King of Surrealism...

After a slew of cancellations from the broadcast networks, Hulu has decided to cancel one of their own -- a Marvel show, albeit a lesser-known one. The streaming service has dropped Marvel's M.O.D.O.K. after one season.
An adult animated comedy series, the Marvel's M.O.D.O.K. TV show stars Patton Oswalt, Melissa Fumero, Aimee Garcia, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Ben Schwartz, Beck Bennett, Jon Daly, and Sam Richardson. In the show, the megalomaniacal supervillain known as M.O.D.O.K. (Oswalt) has long pursued his dream of one day conquering the world. But after years of setbacks and failures fighting the Earth's mightiest heroes, M.O.D.O.K. (Mental Organism Designed Only for Killing) has run his evil organization A.I.M. into the ground. Ousted as A.I.M.'s leader, while also dealing with his crumbling marriage and family life, the M.O.D.O.K. is set to confront his greatest challenge yet.

“M.O.D.O.K,” the gleefully bizarre Marvel animated series that debuted on Hulu last May, won’t be returning for a sophomore season, TheWrap has learned.
While this might seem like a surprise to some that the show is coming to a close after only 10 episodes, it was more or less a foregone conclusion. “M.O.D.O.K” was ordered as part of a suite of animated shows, by former Marvel Television executive Jeph Loeb. These shows, which also included “Hit Monkey,” “Howard the Duck” and “Tigra and Dazzler,” were meant to eventually come together for a miniseries called “The Offenders.” (This echoed the strategy Loeb employed with the Netflix series like “Daredevil” and “Jessica Jones.” Those combined for a miniseries called “The Defenders.”)

Hulu has struggled to find success with its properties from Marvel, which is one of the main brands on Disney+, the Walt Disney Co.’s flagship streaming platform. The live-action series Helstrom was canceled after one season and two of the four planned animated series – Howard The Duck and Tigra & Dazzler – didn’t move forward. All the projects originated at Marvel Television, the defunct television division that was run by Jeph Loeb.

Dean Martin is playing at their house, apparently. LCD Soundsystem has announced an imminent streaming special, “The LCD Soundsystem Holiday Special,” that will open with a ’90s-style-sitcom spoof, featuring actors portraying members of the band and their team, followed by a concert special, presumably featuring the real group. Produced by Amazon Music, it airs both on Prime Video and on Amazon Music’s Twitch channel Dec. 22 at 9 p.m. Et/6 Pt.
Musicians starring in their own arch/retro Christmas sitcoms is not a completely fresh wrinkle — see “The Kacey Musgraves Christmas Show,” which premiered on Prime Video two years ago — but there’s certainly some novelty in one that has avatars for the ostensible stars in the form of recognizable actors. “All My Friends,” the sitcom-within-a-special, is named after a 2007 single of LCD Soundsystem’s and even has a TV-ized instrumental version of the song as its theme song.

“Happily” is what happens when a cute conceit goes nowhere intriguing. Writer-director BenDavid Grabinski’s feature debut tries to generate comedic menace and mystery from the aftermath of a bizarre encounter between a preternaturally lovey-dovey California couple and an enigmatic stranger, but there’s nothing particularly amusing or suspenseful about the weirdness that ensues. when it debuts in theaters and on VOD on March 19.
Fourteen years into marriage, life is good for Tom (Joel McHale) and Janet (Kerry Bishé) — annoyingly so, according to their friends, who resent the fact that the pair still act like hot-to-trot lovebirds who can’t keep their hands off each other. Tom and Janet’s friskiness is extreme enough to get them disinvited from a weekend getaway by Val (Paul Sheer) and Karen (Natalie Zea). Yet that slight isn’t nearly as traumatizing as a subsequent visit from an unknown man (Stephen Root) in a...

I can’t tell you how many times a friend has come up to me with a story that positions their significant other as the proverbial albatross around their neck with a look that screams, “Amirite?” only to have me shrug, smile, and reply, “I don’t know. I actually like my partner.” I only partially say this in jest because I do hope they’ll hear those words and rethink their situation—their refusal to acknowledge their own part in their problems, the possibility that their relationship isn’t working, or whatever else. That this desire to undercut and blame the people we love as being the constant source of our unhappiness has become the norm is a perfect example of social conditioning gone wrong. We are allowed to be happy.

Step aside, Mr. Grey, because HBO Max has released the first teaser trailer for the Cristin Milioti-led dark comedy “Made for Love,” and it features a truly haunting rendition of Beyonce’s “Crazy in Love” by Ray Romano.
The series, an adaptation of the 2017 novel by Alissa Nutting, stars Milioti as Hazel Green, a woman on the run after 10 years in a suffocating marriage to tech billionaire Byron Gogol (Billy Magnussen). Hazel soon discovers that Byron has implanted a monitoring device — the Made for Love chip — in her brain, allowing him to watch her every move as she seeks refuge with her aging widower father Herbert (Ray Romano) and his “synthetic partner,” Diane.
Yep, seems pretty crazy.
In addition to Milioti, Magnussen and Romano, the series also stars Dan Bakkedahl, Noma Dumezweni and Augusto Aguilera. Guest stars include Caleb Foote, Kym Whitley, Nyasha Hatendi, Patti Harrison, Ione Skye, Jon Daly,...
