Wanting to expand his knowledge of his craft, in front of and behind the camera, Marco entered California State University Northridge's Cinema and Television program and graduated with a B.A. in Film Production and a Masters in Screen Writing.
While in attendance he wrote and directed shorts, which opened up another passion for him that was to prepare him for a joint project of grand and ambitious proportions. Marco partnered with fellow colleague, collaborator and dear friend, Cheyenne Camille, to take on a very controversial project, Are We Still The Ugly American? Marco and Cheyenne won grants from the Hollywood Foreign Press and the CSUN Associated Students to produce and direct their first feature Are We Still The Ugly American?, which would take them across the Atlantic to get more of a global perspective. This journey would allow them to speak with people from Western Europe, Canada, and parts of the United States, giving voice to people of different cultures to weigh in on the U.S. foreign policy, the Bush administration, the U.S. invasion of Iraq, and the rise of anti-Americanism over the past fifty years. Are We Still The Ugly American? features exceptional interviews from KRS-ONE, known as one of the most influential and philosophical emcees in hip-hop of our time, as well as Amy Goodman, an award winning journalist, author, and host of Pacifica radio's "Democracy Now!".
Are We Still The Ugly American? was selected into several film festivals in Canada and the US, and went on to win the Prestigious Honorable Mention award from the Accolade International Film Festival in La Jolla, California in 2008.
