Renowned throughout his region (as well as other Southeastern U.S. states) for his TV commercials and personal appearances, all as "The Mayberry Deputy", clearly an impersonation of Don Knotts as Barney Fife from "The Andy Griffith Show." Browning has always said that he had Knotts' blessing and permission, but that Viacom prevented him from calling himself Barney Fife.
