Exclusive: Well Go USA Entertainment has acquired U.S. rights to Thai martial arts action film Bangkok Dog, with plans to release the film in October this year.

Marking director Chaya Supannarat’s feature film debut, Bangkok Dog stars D.Y. Sao and Brian Le. Sao and Le originally rose to prominence alongside Andy Le through the Martial Club channel on YouTube and have built their careers in stunt work and choreography, with credits in Everything Everywhere All at Once and Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

Bangkok Dog‘s executive producer, Prachya Pinkaew, is behind Thai martial arts hits Ong Bak: The Thai Warrior and The Protector, both starring Muay Thai megastar Tony Jaa.

She inherits a painting from her father and hires Tim, an art restorer to repair it, but they don't know that this invaluable art came with invaluable horror. “The Prey” takes the classic “The Most Dangerous Game” scenario for a spin in the Cambodian jungle. Centered on a wrongly jailed cop being stalked by cashed-up creeps who get their kicks by hunting humans, this survival thriller doesn’t bring anything significantly new to the table but the frequency and quality of its gunplay and martial arts combat should keep most action fans happy. Directed, edited and co-written by Italian expat Jimmy Henderson, whose 2017 prison smackdown “Jailbreak” marked him as a talent to watch and was snapped up by Netflix, “The Prey” debuted at the Busan Film Fetival in 2018 and will open in select North American virtual cinemas on Aug. 21. VOD streaming commences on August 25.

Trumpeted as Cambodia’s first million-dollar action movie, “The Prey” can’t match “Jailbreak” for sheer excitement but does suggest that with more original and ambitious material Henderson could become a real force in Asian genre cinema.

Dark Star Pictures has announced today that it has acquired North American rights to action-thriller The Prey. The company is planning an October theatrical release followed by VOD and DVD release.

The film has excited audiences and critics at festivals, including: Busan International Film Festival 2018, BFI London Film Festival 2018, Hawaii Film Festival 2018, Night Visions, and most recently Fantasia Film Festival 2019.
