I’m still a little conflicted on the Aussie slasher I Know How Many Runs You Scored Last Summer (out now on DVD from Celebrity). I can see it being a film that will have its devotees, and those fans may hype the flick to the point where others who see it may be left feeling a little deflated that it wasn’t all it was cracked up to be. It’s certainly not a bad film by any means and has some impressive aspects, though it didn’t create a feeling of elation either.
The title is quite misleading, as one could easily think the movie’s a broad comedy poking fun at the slasher genre, when it’s actually much more straight horror than comedy. There are one-liners and the central gimmick is a bit silly, but overall the jokes are subtle and while the gore is fun,...

No doubt because the fans demanded it, the world can now bask in the glory of the first ever cricket themed comedy horror in the form of “I Know How Many Runs you Scored Last Summer”. The Australian film marks the feature debut of husband and wife team Doug Turner and Stacey Edmonds, who had previously worked together on a number of shorts. Having played Fright Fest, the film now comes to DVD via Anchor Bay, hoping to find its niche as a wacky slice of genre savvy fun. Appropriately enough, the plot is basic slasher fodder, as a group of friends are knocked off one by one by a moustachioed psychopath dressed in cricketer’s togs and armed with an ingenious array of homicidally modified cricket equipment. As is usually the case, the killer’s rampage has been inspired by a past wronging, in this case by having been...

If you thought The Ashes represented the ultimate grudge match between English and Australian cricketers, then think again. This time the game is not only personal, it’s also deadly and the biggest test is to stay alive. Edmonds and Turner’s hilarious and bloody movie puts an irreverent, parodic spin on slasher conventions as well as introducing a unique serial killer who won’t finish his “over” until all his victims are permanently dismissed...

Yeah, the title is a tad too long, but at least you know you’re not heading in to a series slasher movie. “I Know How Many Runs You Scored Last Summer” is from the land Down Under, and might just be the greatest cricket-themed slasher movie of all time. Okay, so maybe it’s probably the only cricket-themed slasher movie in, like, Ever. Doesn’t mean that last statement is wrong, though. Anyways, the movie lands on DVD from Anchor Bay Entertainment June 3 in its native Australia, June 29 in the UK, and June 30 in the States and Canada. Co-directors Stacey Edmonds and Doug Turner pitch an almighty googly at the slasher movie genre in their debut feature, the cricket-themed horror-comedy I Know How Many Runs You Scored Last Summer, coming to DVD this June. If you thought The Ashes represented the ultimate grudge match between English and Australian cricketers,...
