CBS News has never had a great history of black reporters at the network. There was Russ Mitchell, but he's gone; and both Harold Dow and Ed Bradley are dead. And now their most high profile black reporter, Byron Pitts, is about to jump ship. Longtime CBS News correspondent Harold Dow died suddenly yesterday, he was 62. Dow had been a contributor to CBS's news magazine show 48 Hours since it began in 1988 and a correspondent since 1990. He was a five-time Emmy Award-winner and also the recipient of a Rtnda Edward R. Murrow Award, an Operation Push Excellence in Journalism Award, and a George Foster Peabody Award.

Award-winning CBS News correspondent Harold Dow died unexpectedly yesterday, Saturday. He was 62 years old.
The cause of his death wasn’t immediately revealed.
Dow leaves behind a wife, Kathy, and three children, Danica, Joelle, and David.
His career at CBS spanned almost 40 years. A 5-time Emmy winner, Peabody and Edward R. Murrow Award winner, Dow was the first network news reporter to interview O.J. Simpson after the murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman, and was a correspondent for 48 Hours since the program’s inception, covering everything from the kidnapping of Patty Hearst, to American involvement in Bosnia.

The five-time Emmy Award winner was best known for his work on 48 Hours, to which he contributed since the program's launch in January 1988. He was also a contributor to the critically acclaimed 1986 documentary, 48 Hours on Crack Street, which led to the creation of the weekly news magazine.
