Tyler Perry has been coming out with plenty of movies and shows that focus primarily on the African American community and their daily lives. His Amazon Prime Original Divorce in the Black, although not well received for the tacky presentation, the creator/writer/director is now back, this time on Netflix. Beauty in Black is a story of characters living in Chicago. Their lifestyle ranges from affluence to subsistence.

Who was Kimmie, and what was her future?
Kimmie was a stripper working at a strip club in Chicago. Apart from this job, she was also working as a sex worker to earn some extra cash along with her friend Rain. Rain was also a stripper who was convinced by her colleague at the strip club to enhance her body with minor surgical procedures. Rain went ahead with the procedure. Kimmie found her unconscious in her room and moved her to a nearby hospital.

When Alien: Romulus hit multiplex screens this summer, it raised a handful of questions. Some of the more burning queries included: “Who is the father of Kay’s baby?” (to which the answer is resoundingly grim), “Is Rain’s dream home of Yvaga all it’s cracked up to be?” and “Who, of sound body & mind, would rubber stamp that ghoulish deepfake of Ian Holm?”
What’s less likely to have kept you up at night, however, is the missing time that bridges the film’s prologue — in which Weyland-Yutani recovers the original Xenomorph from Ridley Scott’s 1979 classic — and its narrative proper. After all, we already know: A) that the corporation sent out a probe with the express purpose of tracking down the so-called “perfect organism”; B) that they proceeded to conduct experiments with its DNA; and C) that by the time the Corbelan crew arrives at Renaissance Station,...

Released earlier this year, Alien: Romulus was a critical and commercial hit, breathing some much-needed life into a struggling franchise. Set between the events of Ridley Scott's Alien (1979) and James Cameron's Aliens (1986), the film introduced fans to a new crew of young space colonists who encounter the hotstile creatures while aboard a derelict space station.
Written and directed by Fede Alvarez, Alien: Romulus embraced the horror roots of the franchise. The story did a remarkable job connecting the six prior films while also doing some new and fresh. Not all of Alvarez's choices worked in my opinion, but I commend him for taking the series in a bold direction.
On review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, Alien: Romulus scored an impressive 80% with critics and an 85% among general audiences. In addition to its positive response, Alien: Romulus was a commercial hit, grossing $350.8 million worldwide.

Beauty in Black, created by Tyler Perry, is the story of the Bellarie family and the conflict within. They are a bunch of rich people who are constantly at each other’s throats. Beauty in Black could be compared to those soap operas that have many characters with their own arcs and journeys. Some of them are loaded, while others are barely managing to live off the meager salaries. The rich and the not-so-rich clash to form the crux of Beauty in Black.

The Tyler Perry universe continues to expand, and this time we got a whole 16-episode TV show that has been split into two parts (don’t know why they didn’t just call it 2 seasons). Part 1 was released on the 24th of October 2024, and part 2 is set to release in the spring of 2025. Beauty in Black tells the story of a stripper named Kimmie and a rich woman named Mallory. The two women have completely separate lives until they get embroiled in the same drama because of one rich family. Mallory is married into this family, and Kimmie works in one of their illegal businesses. There’s a lot to unpack in this show as each major character has some sort of arc that’s explored throughout the whole thing. I feel like nobody’s really a supporting character, because everybody’s got something important to do in the next part.

A follow-up to ‘Alien: Romulus’ is in development at 20th Century Studios. The sci-fi-horror - which starred Cailee Spaeny and David Jonsson - terrified audiences when it hit theatres in August and now the studio’s boss Steve Asbell has revealed that the company are trying to get the two actors and director Fede Alvarez back for another movie. He told The Hollywood Reporter: "We’re working on a sequel idea now. We haven’t quite closed our deal with Fede, but we are going to, and he has an idea that we’re working on. Director Fede Alvarez may previously have been coy about any plans to make a sequel to August’s sci-fi horror Alien: Romulus, but he and writer Rodo Sayagues at least left the story open enough for some sort of continuation.
Alien: Romulus made around $350m worldwide in cinemas, which is a healthy figure for an $80m-budgeted movie originally destined for streaming, and in the wake of that success, 20th Century Studios boss Steve Asbell has confirmed that a sequel is indeed in the planning stages.

Alien: Romulus Director Fede Álvarez In Talks To Helm Sequel; New Predator Movie Also In Development
Two classic sci-fi horror franchises were recently given new leases of life, with the Predator returning to hunt his Prey in Dan Trachtenberg's 2022 movie, and the Xenomorphs back to their chest-bursting best in this year's Alien: Romulus.
Both films were critically-acclaimed and very popular with audiences, so it shouldn't come as much of a surprise to learn that Disney-owned 20th Century Studios is planning more instalments.
We already knew that a Prey spin-off titled Badlands was in the works, but 20th Century Studios boss Steve Asbell has now revealed that a "secret" Predator movie will also be with us next year that will also be helmed by Trachtenberg. Badlands will be a theatrical release, but it sounds like this other film will be going straight to streaming.

Coming as a surprise to literally no one, a highly profitable 2024 movie is likely to get a sequel. We already knew the Alien franchise would be continuing with the planned FX series Alien: Earth set to release in 2025, but according to Fox exec Steve Asbell, we can expect another theatrical project sometime soon, too.
Talking to The Hollywood Reporter, Asbell revealed that they are in the process of developing a sequel idea, but they haven't inked a deal for Alien: Romulus director Fede Alvarez to return yet, though the exec sounds confident that it will happen.
That makes sense because Alvarez previously chatted with the same outlet and mentioned that he was tossing around ideas for a sequel, namely about Yvaga and whether it will be a positive place or the stuff of nightmares. Probably the latter.
Additionally, Abell mentions Cailee Spaeny and David Jonsson by name, crediting the two...

Legacy sci-fi franchise fans — roll up, roll up! We've got Alien news, we've got Predator news, and we've even got — wait for it — some Alien Vs. Predator news. Earlier today, THR published an extensive new interview with 20th Century Studios head honcho Steve Asbell in celebration of the Disney-owned studio's hit-filled summer. And whilst the conversation was filled with exciting upcoming project teases (a Miss Marple movie! Speed 3! The long-awaited Master And Commander prequel!), it was Asbell's updates on the state of play with the division's future Xenomorphian and Yautjan plans.
First up, Asbell revealed that Fede Alvarez is working on ideas for an Alien: Romulus sequel already, with the hope being that stars David Jonsson and Cailee Spaeny would be in the tank for a return. "We haven’t quite closed our deal with Fede [Alvarez], but we are going to, and he has an idea that we’re working on,...

After the unfortunate box office disappointment of the criminally underrated "Alien: Covenant," 20th Century Studios opted to veer off from director Ridley Scott's trilogy of movies following the adventures of the android xenomorph experimenter David (Michael Fassbender). The studio seemed to view the franchise as one badly in need of a rethink — especially since it's hard to make a cheap "Alien" movie.
At a reported budget of $80 million, Fede Álvarez's "Alien: Romulus" wasn't exactly affordable, but it was cheaper than "Prometheus" and "Covenant," and, most importantly, a straight-ahead horror flick with the kind of stalk-and-seed frights that made the first two movies — "Alien" and "Aliens" — box office smashes. Curiously, the studio's parent company, Disney, initially wanted to take Álvarez's acid-veined thrillride straight to Hulu. But they eventually realized they had an unabashedly mainstream "Alien" installment on their hands, and, $350 million worldwide later, they have a completely rejuvenated franchise.

Apes together strong indeed! After earning close to $400 million bananas with the Wes Ball-directed Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, news about another movie in the evolutionary franchise is swinging our way! According to 20th Century Studios president Steve Asbell, another Apes film is in the works for a 2027 release. Details about the project are scarce. However, it’s a fair assumption to think it’s a sequel to Ball’s box-office blockbuster, starring Owen Teague, Freya Allan, Kevin Durand, Peter Macon, William H. Macy, and more.

Beauty in Black, the 2024 drama series on Netflix written, directed, and produced by Tyler Perry, very strongly bears the characteristics that are usually present in his works. While that would be great if you are a dedicated fan of his works, it is not good news for the general audience since Beauty in Black has you spend almost eight hours with outlandish and shallow characters, and a plot that is equally superficial and uninteresting. The series follows a young woman named Kimmie who is stuck in the adult entertainment industry despite wanting to quit for a long time and her sudden involvement with the billionaire family controlling almost every aspect of the neighborhood in Atlanta that she lives in. Overall, Beauty in Black often resembles bad TV drama, both in terms of plot and production, and is too soapy and campy for average viewers.

Back in February, it was announced that Prey director Dan Trachtenberg would become the first filmmaker to take the helm of two films in the Predator franchise, as he was moving ahead with a new Predator film titled Badlands, working from a screenplay by Prey screenwriter Patrick Aison (based on a story crafted by Trachtenberg himself). That movie started filming in New Zealand earlier this year, with Super 8‘s Elle Fanning in the lead – and earlier this week, it was revealed that Disney / 20th Century Studios will be giving Predator: Badlands a theatrical release on November 7, 2025. Now, during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, 20th Century Studios president Steve Asbell let it slip that we’re actually getting two additions to the Predator franchise in 2025! They’re also plotting an Alien: Romulus sequel with that film’s director, Fede Alvarez – and they’re “probably” going to make another Alien vs. Predator movie.

Keeping up with the darker tone Chicago Pd has taken over recent years, Chicago Pd Season 12 Episode 5 was a perfectly creepy, dark, and atmospheric hour that coincided with a Halloween theme without playing it straightforwardly.
The Torres-centric not only put the former rookie of the unit at the center, but it allowed him to partner up with the endearing and impressive Kiana Cook and essentially pass the torch by the episode’s end.
(Elizabeth Sisson/NBC)
One thing is for sure: Chicago Pd Season 12 hasn’t missed with its collection of fantastically written and executed episodes that have propelled the season so far.
No, it hasn’t been perfect all around. Still, every installment has provided that perfect balance of character insight and development, along with action-oriented cases that have left us on the edge of our seats.

Fede Álvarez's franchise revival, Alien: Romulus, was a big hit at the box office, so we wouldn't be at all surprised if the Don't Breathe director was already in talks to helm a sequel.
If you happened to miss the movie on the big screen, Romulus is now available to purchase on Digital platforms, and Fandango has officially released an extended preview spotlighting what might be the most intense few minutes of the movie.
In the clip, we see Rain Carradine and her makeshift crew arrive at the seemingly abandoned and decommissioned Remus space station to salvage some fuel for their journey to a more hospitable planet.
Unfortunately, they soon find out that dozens of face-huggers were in the process of being transported in stasis, and are released when Andy tries to access the ship's computer.

The ninth entry in the tumultuous Alien franchise, with initial two slam dunks and later sequels and spin-offs of varying degrees of quality, is Fede Alvarez’s “Alien: Romulus,” which seems ready to bring the franchise back to its basics while simultaneously connecting all its disparate strands, especially with regards to its philosophical tinge but heavily mixed critically appraised prequels. The result is a strange mish-mash with enough signature Alien gore and monster madness to satisfy franchise fans.

February 2009. Legendary late-night talk show host David Letterman introduces his next guest: Oscar-nominated actor Joaquin Phoenix. He’s sporting an unkempt beard, dark sunglasses indoors, and behaving like it was his first talk show appearance rather than his hundredth. Even Letterman, who could improv with the best of them, struggles to keep up with Phoenix’s short answers, insisting that he was done with acting so he could focus on becoming a rapper. Turns out, it was an attempt at viral marketing for the upcoming mockumentary, I’m Still Here. Okay, so maybe the interview didn’t tell us much about the movie or drive anyone t to see it, but it did tell us a lot about Joaquin Phoenix, the person and the performer, his deep commitment to his art form, and his obsession with authenticity that brought him through a difficult upbringing and into a wildly successful acting career.

Joaquin Phoenix is all set to return to his legendary role as Arthur Fleck in Todd Philips’ Joker: Folie a Deux. The actor played the DC Comics character in 2019’s Joker and won the Oscar for Best Actor. Since then, Phoenix has worked on a few indies such as C’mon C’mon, and Beau is Afraid and headlined Ridley Scott’s Napolean.
Ever since Phoenix made his debut as a child actor, he has had a steady rise in his career. While he has faced some personal tragedies in his life, he has bounced back and become one of the most amazing performers in the present day. Here is everything about the actor’s paydays and his net worth after he began his career.

“Sadism disguised with the lacework of words” is how Anna Nemzer, a talk show journalist with TV Rain, Russia’s last independent news channel, describes Putin’s twisting of phrases in “My Undesirable Friends: Part I — Last Air in Moscow.” And “being at the right place at the right time — or the wrong place at the wrong time,” is how “The Loneliest Planet” director Julia Loktev has described the circumstances that led to the documentary she’s made about Nemzer’s work. First conceived as a look at the daily lives of reporters who’ve been branded “foreign agents” by their own government, the essence of the project — now a five-part, five-and-a-half-hour epic — was profoundly transformed four months into production, when Russia launched a full-scale invasion against Ukraine.

Ridley Scott's "Alien" requires no introduction, having injected new life into the sci-fi space horror genre that aggressively centers on an otherworldly species with an ever-evolving lore. The equally effective, blockbuster-coded "Aliens" was followed by a string of sequels of varying quality, but I don't deem any of these flawed entries as terrible or unworthy, as they bring their unique quirks to the table. Fede Álvarez got all our hopes up with his recently-released "Alien: Romulus," which reiterates some of the best aspects of the franchise in an amalgamation of effective scares and tense sequences, but lacks severely in the originality department, for better or worse.
Of course, "Alien: Romulus" is not a weak entry when evaluated on its own merits, but it is impossible to detangle the influences it wears on its sleeve from its core identity, which feels like the muted beating of a feeble heart. /Film's...

Taylor Polidore Williams and Crystle Stewart battle amid sex, scandal and corporate intrigue in the official trailer for Beauty in Black, Tyler Perry’s first drama for Netflix, which dropped on Tuesday.
The earlier teaser for Beauty in Black spotlighted the diverging paths in life for the characters played by Williams and Stewart. Acrimony star Stewart as Mallory has riches running her family business, but Williams’ Kimmie struggles as a stripper living in a seedy motel after her mother kicked her out.
But the latest trailer reveals Kimmie’s life taking a turn when she crosses paths in her club with a patron, Horace, played by Ricco Ross. He becomes her entrée into a rich yet dysfunctional family behind a cosmetics conglomerate and a devious trafficking scheme.

One of the most talked-about - not to mention divisive - elements of Fede Alvarez's Alien: Romulus was the introduction of another Xenomorph/human hybrid in the last act, and previously-released concept art has revealed that a number of different designs for the creature were considered.
Towards the end of the film, a pregnant and dying Kay (Isabela Merced) injects herself with the Rook android's Prometheus 5 formula to keep herself alive. Though she does survive (for a while), this ultimately results in her giving birth to a pretty damn terrifying hybrid, which kills its mother and very nearly manages to eliminate Rain (Cailee Spaeny) and Andy (David Jonsson) before being blasted into space.
Now, concept artist Dane Hallett has shared some more of his work to Instagram, and it seems the Offspring's original final form was going to look a lot more like a standard Xenomorph.
