November 16, 2019 marked a pivotal moment in the recent history of the British royal family. On that ill-fated day, the BBC’s flagship news program, Newsnight, aired an hour-long interview between journalist Emily Maitlis and Prince Andrew, the Duke of York. The interview, which swiftly turned the prince into a meme sensation for all the wrong reasons, ultimately led to his eventual removal from royal duties and ex-communication from public life.
Amazon’s three-part series A Very Royal Scandal, executive-produced by Maitlis and directed by Julian Jarrold, dramatizes the events leading up to, during, and following that interview. It focuses specifically on allegations that Andrew (Michael Sheen) engaged in sexual relations with a minor, who was trafficked by convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein (John Hopkins). Given how recent and well-documented these events are, one might wonder what a dramatization like this could add to the public record. Unfortunately, the answer is not very much.

The latest Prince Andrew project has dropped trailer.
A Very Royal Scandal, which launches in a fortnight, stars Michael Sheen as the disgraced Prince with Ruth Wilson playing the role of his interviewer Emily Maitlis.
A Very Royal Scandal is a three-part TV series as opposed to Scoop, the Netflix feature that starred Rufus Sewell and Gillian Anderson in the lead roles. It is the third in the A Very… series that Amazon has previously co-produced with the BBC, although this one will only air on Prime Video. Unlike Scoop, Maitlis is involved with this one as an EP.
In the trailer, Wilson’s Maitlis can be seen pursuing the story that would make her a global household name and destroy the Prince’s reputation in a pivotal moment in British history, which saw him buckle under questions around his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein and make a sea of humiliating utterances.

Icelandic writer-director Hafsteinn Gunnar Sigurðsson (“Under the Tree”) makes a smooth transition to English-language directing with the high-concept comedy “Northern Comfort,” co-written with longtime collaborators Halldór Laxness Halldórsson and Tobias Munthe. It centers on a disparate group of people who share a disabling fear of air travel, which they are trying to overcome through a high-end fearless flyers course. As a final challenge, the class is scheduled for a short, roundtrip “exposure” flight during which they should face and conquer their phobias. But this practical plan soon runs into some literal and figurative turbulence. Combining human drama and absurdist comedy, “Northern Comfort” should fly into other festivals before making a comfortable landing at a boutique art-house distributor or streamer.

Welcome to International Disruptors, a feature where we shine a spotlight on key executives and companies outside of the U.S. shaking up the offshore marketplace. With the 75th Cannes Film Festival less than two weeks away, we’re speaking with well-respected French sales exec Carole Baraton, co-founder of international sales and production outfit Charades. The company has four titles in selection and Baraton tells us about the company’s ambitions and why she’s looking forward to being back on the Croisette.
It’s been five years since French sales veteran Carole Baraton joined forces with former Gaumont exec Yohann Comte and former Studiocanal exec Pierre Mazars to launch Charades and in that short period of time the trio have managed to carve out a boutique sales and production label that has quickly become synonymous with quality independent fare.

Britain and France are separated by little more than 28 miles, but if you asked Jack Davenport, he'd say the countries are worlds apart. So when he and Lydia Leonard were cast in 10 Percent, Sundance and AMC+'s remake of the French series Call My Agent!, it wasn't all that difficult to put their own twist on the show. As Davenport told E! News, the Brits are "a strange, emotionally-constipated island of people and a lot of what we don't say is the important part or we mean the opposite of what we say, which is not really the French way of doing things." These differences become painfully obvious as viewers meet the agents of Nightingale Hart, a talent agency...

A British version of “Call My Agent!”?!? Mon Dieu! The critically acclaimed French comedy series, set at a Parisian talent agency, now has had a British remake set at an agency in the heart of London’s Soho. Called “Ten Percent” (an English translation of “Call My Agent!’s” original name “Dix Pour Cent”), the original became a hit for the way it explored the often-fractious relationship between agent and talent, a relationship that can have a skyrocketing ego on one side and expectation management and endless anxiety on the other. It also received acclaim for featuring cameos by celebrities from Isabelle Huppert to Sigourney Weaver, who appeared to relish the opportunity to gently mock themselves. It is a tradition that continues in the British version, with cameos by David and Jessica Oyelowo, Emma Corrin, David Harewood and Helena Bonham Carter.

The movie-and-television industry isn't all glitz and glamour. In the Sundance Now Original Series 10 Percent, based on the French series of the same title (Dix Pour Cent), Nightingale Hart's agents navigate the tricky world of talent management. It's an increasingly difficult task that requires tact and a touch of manipulation, as revealed in the new trailer released March 31. The preview shows Rebecca, played by Lydia Leonard, educating an assistant on how not to handle phone calls, especially ones from Fleabag's lead. "I get a call from Phoebe Waller-Bridge and you don't put her through?" she questions, to which the assistant replies, "I said you were in a...

In today’s Global Bulletin, the English Premier League renews rights deals for three years; Stephen Graham-starrer “Boiling Point” sells wide; Nent Group sets terrorism drama “Red Election”; Endeavor Content strengthens management team; and Alchimie and All3Media International launch SVOD channel Inside Outside in the U.S.
The English Premier League soccer championship has agreed a proposal for a three-year renewal of U.K. live and non-live broadcast agreements with Sky Sports, BT Sport, Amazon Prime Video and BBC Sport.
The rights deal worth £5 billion ($7 billion) was agreed in 2018 and will now be rolled over from 2022-2025.
This follows approval in principle for the renewal from the U.K. government after a period of consideration where the League cited the damage caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. Enabled by an exclusion order from the government, the League will conclude the renewals without the normal broadcast rights tender process.

Last Christmas doesn’t just leave you asking what went wrong, it leaves you asking what went really, really, really wrong. With Paul Feig as the director, Emma Thompson as the writer and Emilia Clarke as the lead it had everything it needed to be a Christmas classic. In the end it’s another classic disaster.
The plot, as little as there is, tells us the story of Kate, played by Emilia Clarke. Kate is a young woman stuck in a rut of bad decisions, who works as one of Santa’s elves for a department store. When she meets Tom (Henry Golding) her life takes a new turn and she finds a new lease of life.

The last twelve months have been big business for the movie musical with Bohemian Rhapsody and Rocketman among those packing audiences in. There’s a seasonal flavour to the latest in this burgeoning genre, with the music of George Michael and Wham! being the basis for Last Christmas. It’s nice to have a Christmas movie in theaters. It’s also nice to watch two lead performers get to know each other on screen, and appear to genuinely enjoy each other’s company. With Last Christmas, directed by Paul Feig, viewers get two-for-one. Starring Emilia Clarke as Kate and Henry Golding as the mysterious do-gooder who has captured her eye, there exists a light-hearted energy throughout that is seasoned with a bit of complexity. Considering the film is co-written by Emma Thompson (from a story by her and husband Greg Wise), this is no surprise.

Director Paul Feig's "Last Christmas" is for romance junkies. Packed with frothy soppiness, it is a rehash of the clumsiest-meets-cute formula.
Set in the backdrop of Christmas in London, it tells us the story of Kate (Emilia Clarke), a 26-year-old Yugoslavian settled in the UK. She is endearing but clumsy to the core. She wants to be a professional singer, but works in a store selling Christmas decorations because that's the only job she manages to cling on to.
Despite having a family, she prefers to be homeless because her concerned, neurotic mother has literally driven her entire family away.
In this chaotic life of hers, she meets, the handsome and charming Tom Webster (Henry Golding), who is annoyingly mysterious, understanding and constantly giving her unsolicited life lessons. How she gradually falls ? hook, line and sinker ? for him, forms the crux of the narrative.

Kate (Emilia Clarke) is in a rut. Long ago, as a girl growing up in Yugoslavia circa 1999, she was a songbird who could turn George Michael’s “Heal the Pain” into a transcendental choral experience. Decades later, she’s a young woman who drinks away her pain in London’s pubs and manages to alienate her most loyal friends. Don’t get her started about her family: Dad (Boris Isakovic) was a former lawyer who now drives a cab; Mom (co-writer Emma Thompson) browbeats everyone; her sister (Lydia Leonard) isn’t speaking to her.

Ever since the very first Trailer for Last Christmas was released, something felt…off. The story shown just seemed to be hiding a little bit of information. This led to subsequent analysis and over analysis of the little bit of footage, leading to wild theories about what could be happening within this holiday season romantic tale. Well, now that I’ve seen it and the embargo has lifted, I can report that while there is a degree of accuracy to some theories, it’s also a disservice to an otherwise fairly serviceable film. In fact, the plot itself probably would have been better off keeping things simple. At least there’s George Michael music throughout the flick, right? Alas, it’s not nearly enough. The movie is a romantic holiday story, following a troubled young woman. For Kate (Emilia Clarke), bad choices are a way of life, only compounded by...

People don’t generally think of a musician’s Christmas albums as their best work — unless that musician is named Bing or Mariah — but fans still enjoy that rush of holiday familiarity and sentimentality. So think of “Last Christmas” as director Paul Feig’s Christmas album; it won’t be the first comedy anyone thinks about in his accomplished filmography, but viewers might find themselves reaching for it come December all the same.
I’ve seen more than my share of Christmas films, and “Last Christmas” scratches a lot of my holiday-movie itches while also delivering what I want from a Paul Feig movie. Those cameos, incidentally, are a Feig tradition going all the way back to his last Christmas movie, 2006’s underappreciated “Unaccompanied Minors.”

"I'm busy, you're weird - goodbye!" Universal has unveiled an official trailer for Last Christmas, the next film from Paul Feig. This time he has made a more straight-forward romantic comedy about a young woman who wants her life to start turning for the better. Her latest job is working as an elf at Santa's workshop, but it's there she meets a man named Tom. Last Christmas also features the music of George Michael, including the bittersweet holiday classic of the film's title. The film will also premiere brand new unreleased material by the legendary Grammy-winning artist.
