While the Covid-19 pandemic may be preventing horror fans from gathering in large groups, that's not stopping Salem Horror Fest from announcing a star-studded, eclectic first wave of programming for this year's virtual edition taking place this October, including guest of honor Joe Dante, who will participate in online reunions for The Howling and Gremlins 2: The New Batch:

In the social distancing days of Covid-19, Salem Horror Fest continues to bring the horror community together through interactive virtual events and screenings, with their latest online celebration centered on a new horror film from Panama.

On Saturday, June 20th at 9:00pm Est, Salem Horror Fest will host a virtual screening of Sol Moreno's Diablo Rojo Pty on Facebook Live for free, along with a simultaneous Twitter watch party with the hashtag #DiabloRojoPTY, followed by a moderated Q&a with members of the cast and crew.

Yesterday The Horror Collective released a clip from Sol Moreno's horror flick, Diablo Rojo Pty. This is the first horror flick to come out of Panama and you can find it on Amazon Prime Video starting today.  The clip takes place early on in the film. Two motorcycle cops have caught up to Miguel and Teo in the Diablo Rojo. Miguel has a run in with Josefina, whose relationship to him will be revealed in time. Tagline: "Una Historia Panamena de Supersticiones. Brujeria y Diez Toneladas de Puro Diablo." Diablo Rojo Pty is the latest film to be distributed by the Horror Collective. A Panamanian film in Spanish, this feature focuses on a cast of characters on a bus trip. Along their trip, they are attacked by a band of creatures and forced to take refuge in their broken down bus. From filmmakers Sol Moreno and J. Oskura Najera, this title is slated to show in May, through Amazon. As well, the film stars: Carlos Carrasco, Leo Wiznitzer (Hands of Stone) and Alejandra Araúz. The film's mysterious trailer is below. The official poster for Diablo Rojo Pty is also available. The graphic shows blood red flames and something unholy. The tagline mentions "a Panamanian story of superstitions...brutal and tonnes of evil." A bit retro', the film poster also appears as a portal to something sinister.

THR first reported that the first ever Panamanian horror flick, Diablo Rojo Pty, has been picked up for North American distribution by new outfit The Horror Collective.    There are no details about when and how they will release the horror flick.    This is very good news for director Sol Moreno and her team. I have been kepeing up with Diablo Rojo Pty since I caught a market screening in December of 2018. The directorial feature debut of Sol Moreno, Diablo Rojo Pty has been playing theaters in its home country, as well as touring the festival circuit, including Canada's Hexploitation Film Festival and the Panamanian International Film Festival in Los Angeles.
