I am, however, normal, and thus limited my in-depth investigation to a single platform: Netflix, which has released “only” five new Christmas comedies. Which (if any) should be your next watch? The holiday flick brought in 16 million views from its Nov. 13 release through Sunday, Nov. 19, ranking as the top title on Netflix’s most-watched movie list for the week of Nov. 11. That viewership paled in comparison to the Mike Tyson-Jake Paul fight, though, which brought in a whopping 46.6 million views, ranking as the most-watched title of the week.

The 46.6 million views includes both the main Tyson-Paul fight, as well as the three other fights that transpired before they entered the ring — Katie Taylor vs. Amanda Serrano, Mario Barrios vs. Abel Ramos and Neeraj Goyat vs. Whindersson Nunes. Jimmy Fallon is disappointed in us. The NBC host opened “The Tonight Show” by highlighting a recent Pew Research Center poll that found roughly one in five Americans say they regularly get their news from social media influencers.

On the heels of the response to “Joker: Folie à Deux” (Warner Bros.) on PVOD, “Megalopolis” (Lionsgate), Francis Ford Coppola’s much lower grossing but also much publicized $100 million self-financed film, got a home release that garnered almost zero interest.

“Saturday Night” (Sony) was the other big name release, and landed #6 on both iTunes (ranking by revenue) and Fandango (by transactions) top 10 lists (#4 and #6 respectively; it was #1 for a day at iTunes). It’s not like it was a much bigger hit than “Megalopolis” in theaters or PVOD. Its domestic gross was only $9.5 million, less than $2 million better than Coppola’s film.

“Megalopolis” not making either list is surprising. But what is stunning is it is nowhere to be found among the more than 80 movies listed on their daily list, nor has it since it was released. “Goodrich” (Bleecker Street) with Michael Keaton, which grossed barely over $1 million is #24 Monday.

Now streaming on Netflix, the holiday film centers on Kathy (Lacey Chabert), a café owner in Hope Springs who’s grieving the loss of her husband. When she places a scarf on a very chiseled snowman, that snowman comes to life and seeks her out.

As the two try and figure out what exactly happened and avoid having Jack (Dustin Milligan) melt into a puddle, they find themselves quickly falling in love.

At the end of the film, we learn that Hope Springs is actually meant to be in New York, as we see a shot of their license plate on the way to the airport for Hawaii. But was “Hot Frosty” actually filmed in New York?

They do away with the cartoonish character’s corncob pipe, coal eyes and rotund body, replacing these features with beefy biceps, chiseled bone structure and sculpted abs. Come November and the feel-good Christmas films release in a flood. Hot Frosty is just another silly feel-good film centered around Christmas. It lacks the spark to make it to the memorable-holiday-films list. Lacey Chabert as Kathy and Dustin Milligan as Jack lack chemistry, and the humor only works when Craig Robinson’s Sheriff Hunter enters the screen. Though I must mention, seeing Chabert remark that the girl on television reminded her of someone she knew in high school upon seeing her Mean Girls co-star, Lindsey Lohan, in her 2023 holiday film, Falling for Christmas, was hilarious.

Kathy, a widow, always looked after the people around her but never took care of herself. Her life was quite a mess, but things immediately changed when her neighbor, Mel, gifted her a magical scarf.
