Some weeks it seems like the streamers really are catering to every demographic. How else can you explain a single week that sees both the “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” and “Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” franchises making long overdue returns? There’s also a new Adam Scott show that makes returning to the office an even creepier experience, a dramatic retelling of “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” and animated adventures starring Mickey Mouse and Cuphead. See? Every demographic dutifully covered.

“Briarpatch,” the Rosario Dawson-led anthology series, has been canceled after only one season at USA Network.
The cancelation was confirmed by showrunner Andy Greenwald, who posted the news on Twitter. “Briarpatch” finished its brief 10-episode run back in April.
“Just wanted to let you know some disappointing news before you hear it from anyone else: ‘Briarpatch’ isn’t returning for another season at USA,” Greenwald tweeted. “Though I’ve known for months, it’s still a bummer. We had an amazing story planned for S2 and I was luck enough to work with the most amazing writers and crew, all of whom were itching to get back to work. I think we were going to do something special.”
Greenwald went on to hint that the series could potentially be revived elsewhere: “If enough people keep checking the show out on demand, anything’s possible.”

Briarpatch will not return to USA Network.
The drama starring Rosario Dawson and from exec producers Andy Greenwald and Sam Esmail (Mr. Robot) completed its 10-episode first season in April. The series, based on the Ross Thomas novel of the same name, told a complete story in its first season and was billed as anthology.
Sources tell THR that in success, Briarpatch would have gone on to score a second season. The Chris McCumber-led basic cable network, however, did not ask to hear a pitch for a possible second offering of the series.

Rosario Dawson may have just ended her run as Allegra Dill on USA’s “Briarpatch,” but she already has her sights set on the future, specifically, two major sci-fi franchises — and, possibly, politics.
“The two universes, ‘Star Trek’ and ‘Star Wars.’ I get in those two, I’m telling you, man, that’s it. I will just retire. And then I can just concentrate on going to school and running for office. That would be it,” Dawson revealed to Variety on the “Variety After-Show.”
While it was reported that Dawson is already set to show off her Force powers as Ahsoka Tano in Season 2 of “The Mandalorian,” the actor was tight-lipped on joining the Disney Plus series, though she credited fans for fueling the momentum for her casting.

USA Network freshman drama series Briarpatch is moving from its current slot at 10 p.m. Thursdays to 11 p.m. Mondays beginning February 24. The move comes two weeks after its series premiere.
Showrunner Andy Greenwald revealed the news via Twitter, suggesting that the popularity of WWE wrestling could give the show a ratings boost. “Apparently this has more to do with the popularity of wrestling than it does anything else – so I’m very happy to welcome our new kayfabe friends aboard!,” Greenwald wrote.
Briarpatch premiered on February 6 with 528,000 total viewers and a .09 rating in the 18-49 demo. But those numbers dropped to 357,000 viewers/.07 in the second episode, down 32.4% in viewers and down 22.2% in the demo. WWE Raw averages more than 2 million total viewers and a 0.8 rating in the demo on Monday nights.

Former TV critic Andy Greenwald had seen the demands of being a showrunner firsthand. When he finally got the chance to call the shots on the USA Network series “Briarpatch,” that opportunity brought everything that comes with overseeing the production of 10 hourlong episodes of TV.
“There was a day in the airport when I was flying back to Albuquerque because we had to crash [Episode] 2 through post to get it to Toronto,” Greenwald told IndieWire. “I think we’re filming 5 and 6, and we were prepping 7 and I was writing or rewriting 8, 9, and 10 and I was at Lax at 6 in the morning and I was like, ‘This…This is awful.’ And then I thought, ‘The only thing worse than this would be not doing it.'”

Capping today’s TV adaption trend at TCA the day’s last panel centered on another adaptation: USA Network’s Briarpatch, a 10-episode anthology series adapted from the Ross Thomas novel by the same name.
The series, which premieres February 6, is set in a fictional Texas border town and follows Allegra Dill (Rosario Dawson) as she returns to her hometown to search for her sister’s killer.
Dawson appeared on today’s panel with cast members Jay R. Ferguson and Kim Dickens, as well as Ep/showrunner Andy Greenwald, a former TV critic. Greenwald said he wanted to blend humor and suspense to create a “hot noir,” or a “classic story heated up for a new era.”

Giraffes and tigers and car bombs — oh my! “Briarpatch” sure does offer an unusual combination of TV rarities in its first hour, and barely slows down in the second. Adapted from Ross Thomas’ 1984 Edgar Award-winning novel of the same name, Andy Greenwald’s adaptation is actual a pretty cool combination of genres — like a neo-noir western with more Martin McDonagh than Nic Refn. Each element plays well off each other in what’s otherwise a sleepy small town murder-mystery, and the resulting oddities — like a zoo-full of animals unleashed across Texas, or Jay R. Ferguson sporting a good ol’ boy drawl — feel like marvelous side effects of such a fervent blending of styles.
But it’s not the easy-to-follow core story that keeps things clicking, nor even Rosario Dawson’s dominant lead performance. It’s Ana Lily Amirpour. The executive producer and pilot director’s unique skillset is maximized so beautifully in the first episode,...

Ed Asner and Alan Cumming have joined USA Network’s upcoming drama “Briarpatch.”
“Briarpatch” stars Rosario Dawson as Allegra Dill, a dogged investigator returning to her border-town Texas home after her sister is murdered. What begins as a search for a killer turns into an all-consuming fight to bring her corrupt hometown to its knees. Luke Cage’s Rosario Dawson stars in Briarpatch, a USA Network TV series developed by Mr. Robot’s Sam Esmail.

The series is developed by Esmail Corp. and Anonymous Content, the companies of Sam Esmail, the creator of USA Network’s hit Internet age series, Mr. Robot. The Matt Damon-led action thriller franchise is getting a prequel TV series called Treadstone. USA Network has ordered a pilot episode and it's being developed by Tim Kring, who created the hit superhero series Heroes.
I like the Bourne film franchise and I've enjoyed all of the films that have come from it. So I'm up for watching a series if it's good! If you couldn't tell by the title, the show will center around the CIA black ops program, Treadstone. Here's what we know so far thanks to THR:
Treadstone explores the origin story and present-day actions of a CIA black ops program known as Treadstone — a covert operation that uses behavior modification protocol to turn its agents into nearly unstoppable superhuman assassins. The series follows sleeper agents across the globe as they’re mysteriously "awakened" to resume their deadly missions.
This seriously sounds like it could be a great thrilling series!

USA Network has ordered four drama pilots. One is a spinoff of the “Bourne” movies, while another stars Denis Leary — and that’s just (literally) the half of it.
“Treadstone,” which hails from a “Bourne” franchise producer, “explores the origin story and present-day actions of a CIA black ops program known as Treadstone — a covert operation that uses behavior modification protocol to turn its agents into nearly unstoppable superhuman assassins,” per USA.
Leary’s “Erase” tells the story of Donal O’Neal, a “dirty ex-cop who decides to do the right thing and bring down his complicit superior officers,” according to the cable channel’s logline. “But his best weapon in this battle — a photographic memory — is suddenly compromised by symptoms of early-onset Alzheimer’s.”

“As the No. 1 cable entertainment network for a record 12 years in a row, USA Network delivers unmatched scale and momentum with a broad, diverse slate of programming,” said Chris McCumber, president, Entertainment Networks for NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment. “These new pilots add to our dynamic scripted pipeline with the big auspices, top creative talent and bold characters that have become USA’s signature.”
“Now more than ever, premium video content is proving to work the hardest for our marketing partners in helping them reach their business objectives,” said Mark Marshall, executive vice president, Entertainment Advertising Sales, NBCUniversal. “Having new, high quality scripted fare allows us to have the most meaningful conversations with advertisers about how USA can be a powerful part of their ad campaigns.”

“Dare Me” — based on the acclaimed novel by Megan Abbott, who serves as writer and executive producer along with Gina Fattore — is an unflinching exploration of volatile female friendships, jealousy, loyalty and the dynamics of power in a small Midwestern town. Peering behind the all-American façade, the series dives into the cutthroat world of competitive high school cheerleading, following the fraught relationship between two best friends after a new coach arrives to bring their team to prominence. Part coming-of-age story, part small-town drama, part murder mystery,”Dare Me” exposes the physical and psychological extremes that some young women are willing to endure in order to get ahead.”Dare Me” is from Universal Cable Productions in association with Film 44. Peter Berg and Michael Lombardo of Film 44 executive produce along with Sarah Condon and Karen Rosenfelt.
“Erase”
Created by Denis Leary and Alex Cary and starring Leary, “Erase” is the story of Donal O’Neal, a dirty ex-cop who decides to do the right thing and bring down his complicit superior officers. But his best weapon in this battle — a photographic memory — is suddenly compromised by symptoms of early-onset Alzheimer’s. In this gritty crime thriller, laced with elements of black comedy, Donal races against time to repair the damage he’s done to his estranged family while trying to avoid being killed by his enemies. From Universal Cable Productions, “Erase” will be executive produced Leary and Cary, along with Apostle Pictures’ Jim Serpico.

Cast: Ross Thomas, Sophia Pernas, Adrian R’Mante, Hayley Knight, Christine Evangelista, Adam Meirick, Megan Hensley, Jack Donner, Chaz Allen, and Jeff D'Agostino.
When military science creates monstrosities that go berserk in the intro to Underground, one possible solution is to send in the Special Forces to mop up with a few mortar shells and a flamethrower. Obviously someone forgot to bring these big guns. The soldiers become yesterday’s news, leaving what happens next a tale of survival.
A few years later, the base is abandoned and it gets used as the location for a rave. Lonely soldier boy, Matt Wilcox (Ross Thomas), has finished his tour of duty—presumably without a scratch—and is meeting his pals there. He introduces his girlfriend, Mira (Sofia Pernas), to Eric (Jeff D'Agostino), Storm (Adrian R’Mante), Jenna (Christine Evangelista) and Evie (Hayley Knight).

Get ready to step into hell with the crazy new creature feature Underground, which looks reminiscent of The Descent. First announced back in March of 2010, the film is finally being sold at the Afm. Check out the old trailer above, with the new promo and art inside. Directed by Rafael Eisenman, Christine Evangelista, Jenna Hughes, Megan Hensley, Ross Thomas and Sofia Pernas all star. "In the film a group of friends fight for their lives against lethal and ravenous creatures lurking underground. The group will find themselves at the mercy of creatures genetically engineered by the military to be expendable in battle. They are stronger and faster than humans and can destroy their enemies with their bare hands and teeth. These creatures survived in the dark, eating whatever flesh wandered into their lair. Though they fought countless battles in Iraq, Matt and Storm never knew real fear until they went.
